I started building something at the Artemis launch system. I never go for large open builds, at most I’ll make a 3x5 of large floor tile size thing and then build out from it. Going to try build a Hangar/Workshop that was intended for Corvette construction or repairs.
I was giving my Iteration-Artemis statue some thought too. I have used the base building standalone app in the past, but I think I might give the blender plugin version a shot as I can pull the Artemis model from game and then try fill it out like a jigsaw with objects from the base builder.
If anyone knows where I can find a readily available blender compatible 3d model of Artemis before I go scrubbing the interwebs, do let me know

I don’t know where to post this so I will stick it here.
I just completed all the Atlas words in the catalogue…took long enough

Something I always intend to do, but never have. That’s some achievement, holy mother of void that’s impressive.
I’ve tried in the past to avoid visiting the Atlas/progressing story before getting all the atlas words from planetside monoliths but then I realise that’s insane and I go back to just playing the game.
Well… it has begun. I got my Artemis model/mesh and I’m beginning to fill it in. Will save as a basebuilder prefab so it can be shared readily with the basebuilding app community… Now that I think of it I probably should have checked first to see if someone hadn’t already made a giant Artemis bust '^ _ ^
Have placed Sphere for the eyes (theyll get lids, don’t worry!) and using the capsule lights for the little bits that stick out the side of their head/hat/thing. Forming the actual crown of the head etc will be the hard part, I have an idea for how I’ll do the head cloth/drape/scarf thing.

Wait. Can you upload a whole new 3D model and use it in a base (using a certain format?), or are you macgyvering an Artemis out of exocraft wheels, corvette wings, and nipnip flavoured bubblegum?
I’m no 3D modeller, the only thing I remember from experts I worked with is, high poly for cutscenes, low poly for games!

The latter. The former would be possible but it would only be visible to anyone else with the packaged mod. I’ve no idea how to do that anyway nor am I bothered. The sculpture made of bric-a-brac will be visible to all
I know this was really popular in Canada, not sure if rest of world got it, but Neil Buchannon is a patron saint where I’m from.

Okay, I have made progress with Artemis. Still in the experimental phase/brute forcing my way through blender. I abandoned my original idea of just placing objects by hand for now and I’m seeing if some blender logic can get me there.
I mapped the NMS Decoration Spheres to the faces using geonodes… Now I just have to learn how to make all of those spheres unique instances that match the object ID used in the base building app so I can paste it back into the game with no issue.
If this works I can apply it to… well, anything in the future. I will have to tinker with it a fair bit though to get the instance count down to something the game can handle and not use up ALL my base part limit. I may just make a creative mode game for the purpose of getting this build to the Artemis launch event.

Can anyone program this into a Byte Beat?

Hmmm, is Artisan still making rounds with byte beat songs? Not sure if stopped or youtube algorithm forgot I would like to see those videos…
I could certainly give it a go, it’s not as prog rock/technical as their other stuff so it might be possible. Been summer 2024 since I had a proper mess around with byte beat so trying to remember its limitations. I know triplets and long notes can be a bit tricky, I recall having to “fake” those.

Yes. I will check and see if they are on Bluesky but you can do it @toddumptious ! I believe in you!
The system sheralmyst chose has a cool multitool. Or is it random?
And a very tiny rubber duck like Sean-summoning-blob:

Oooh what should we name the summoning blob? My brain is coming up blank, all I can think of is that time sean tweeted “Prawn Curry” but that is way too gros sounding and not cute enough.
Nice find on the multitool, s class too.
Best I can recall about MT’s is you will find the same model MT across the planet (if not the entire system? but its class and stats will be randomised per POI you find a MT in.
Something like that

The Voyagers Haven 3d Map Project has expanded upon some of it’s features, you can now add POI’s to planets using the long/lat coords after submitting the System to the database.
This area seems to be in it’s early stages but its pretty functional right now.
I was also curious as to what jumping 1980 ly’s, from star to star towards the center, would look on the top layer of the Region Map (my current permadeath freighters max jump). Making tracks
One of those Bicycle Spokes Sean Murray liked to imagine before the release of the game.
According to the sites statistics, I’ve now submitted 150 systems to do project.

I need to get started on this as well…

I am comfortable at the bottom of the list.

I come with fantastic news!!
I know what I need to do now and I know it can be done with ease as a result. I have gotten the base building app to recognise the instances created by Blenders geonode tool.
The next step is refinement, getting the best effect with the least amount of spheres or even experimenting with other objects for different segments.
Whats the base part limit for a base again? Current raw attempt was actually smaller than I was expecting, only 4,700 spheres (before clean up, which I also intend to do once I’ve refined the geonode instancing a bit). I was worried I was generating 10,000 spheres in blender at first '^_ ^
DJmonkey, who makes the plugin/app, helped me over the finish line too, by letting me know which attributes on an object in blender, were important for the export to NMS button to recognise them too. I owe that person a steam purchase of their game I think
Edit:
Have it reduced to 1900 parts, going to test it in a different system to see if it doesnt tank performance or anything weird before I even think about putting it in our system for the Artemis launch.
Its hard to know how the colours will look from the app but I’m hoping for some happy accidents.
Edit:
Looks good on PC at low/med mix settings with zero effect on performance

What are reasons for rejection in this list?
“This solar system is not solarsystemy enough and its name smells of elderberries. Good day, sir!!” ?

One such object is as complex as a whole base? The shape is recogniseable, so it seems to work.
Can you perhaps use more contrasting colours? Face lighter and eyes darker, earwarmers and lips a shade in between?
Are spheres the only option? I don’t fully understand this method, (are you using the method that scatters rocks/bushes/trees over a terrain surface, just terrain=a too complex model and bushes=spheres?) but definitely worth teaching others.
PS: Wait. Are those the predefined 2-colour spheres from the palette??
