: also no i dont mind, its not 100% done yet but the readme is in the same folder as everything else as you found so

This will be useful for anyone star charting on PC

That planet is gorgeous looking @sheralmyst , Look forward to getting out to it. I think I already know what I want to build there

No. I’m having “Putting people into a barely tested spacecraft cobbled together from long outdated hardware” jitters… I hope that heatshield holds on reentry. We all do. But all we have is one test on which it barely did, and an untested course adjustment that’s supposed to fix that. Compared to what Blue Origin and SpaceX put into testing their hardware, the only thing separating this whole thing from “criminally negligent” is a dead astronaut…

Yep. But isn’t that basically what we did in the Apollo missions? It was rushed. It was run by a calculator. Maybe that was the lucky charm and luck has run out…we shall see.

I believe during the apollo projects they would source the spittle of an Irishman who is the third cousin of a widower (who is the seventh child of their family) and smear the fuselage in it, for good luck.

If they’re not doing that anymore than I have to say, the fairy folk won’t be having it and that launch won’t go well.

Lets just hope no other bad omens surface in the mean time… Like the Kennedy Space Centre suddenly becoming the Donald Trump & Kennedy Space Centre :face_with_peeking_eye:

Just had a death in extended family. Gotta leave for a bit. I have staked the system and claimed 2 planets. I think there are six. Found a portal. Will build a suitable welcome center. So far, it is a very interesting system with a little bit of something for everyone.

Sorry to hear Sheral. Take your time and go be with family, we aint going anywhere <3

Thanks @toddumptious

I managed to put a welcome center together. Tried to make the Artemis logo…tried being the key word…:joy:

Not in this way. The Saturn V was the direct descendant of extensively tested in-use technology and had itself been flown at least twice before putting people on it. The Apollo capsule itself was also flown unmanned multiple times for testing.

Now we’re having old technology that is not as well understood anymore assembled into completely new systems that have flown once and showed issues while doing so. Now they’re putting people in it on the second flight. Mostly because they don’t have the money for test flights. It’s maddening.

The whole thing worries me too. One way or another, we will all remember what we were doing as events unfold.

I feel like every generation has said this about the world they find themselves in going back centuries, and its usually just people scared of the changing times with no real merit to it.

But this time it genuinely feels like the world has lost the run of itself.

Back on topic, I like the artemis logo, good idea for a portal gate.

I was thinking of making an Artemis (from nms) statue, and try using the base building app. Havent dabbled in it for a few months and i dunno if i could even achieve it in-game but will be a fun experiment.

Okay I ran the haven extractor mod to try it out and I messed up somewhere, maybe dont run it just yet

Basically it injects itself into the nms.exe so your antivirus will definitely flag and quarantine it.

So I made sure it was exempt on bit defender.

Then I ran it and bit defender flagged and quarantined ALL my games .exe’s from steam as well as some non steam ones (epic games exe’s as well as RSI launcher for Star Citizen)

edit: Sorry it didn’t quarantine those later exe’s, realising now it decided to clear registry entries of games I no longer have installed, as part of its quarantining measure on the NMS.exe

I still havent got this figured out, steam is being denied access to the folder. Cant read/write to reinstall the game. I’ve gone through all folder permissions etc and made sure they have write permissions. Even tried uninstalling bitdefender momentarily. Steam still has no read/werite access to NMS.

Lots of people having same problems with bitdefender over the years from searching (when using perfectly safe mods or their own scripts), they also tried everything I have, none are confirming they found a fix, gonna go lie down and watch Fallout instead 07

Does anyone want to build ahead of Feb 5? I can pop the address up later

I totally meant to say yes to this but you are also a mind reader.

Thanks for the warning about the aggressive threat protection. I downloaded the NMS tool and read the description and … hesitated.

I ran one such (as I would call it) plugin once for a streamer’s community: Space Engineers specifically have a small community dedicated to plugin safety. That group is in addition to their large and experienced modding community. Officially, the developers are fine with modding, but do not allow plugins. They are tolerated — as long as the plugin was tested, runs through one specific launcher, is open-source, and is in one specific repository whose owner reacts to issues and deletion requests. All other plugins are officially hunted down as malware. :grimacing:

That’s the level of security and testing that I am used to, at work and in gaming, and not seeing or hearing of it in this case made me want to look into it first.

How did you solve your Steam permissions…?

PS: Speaking of fuchsia, I will see. I don’t complain about the colour of this forum only because I have better things to do, not because I like it.

I agree with Jedidia, meeting on Feb 5 would be planning and building, I assume? There won’t be anything Artemis-related happening IRL on Feb 5, that’s just the launch window “opening” (i.e. moon in an easy to reach position), isn’t it? Neither a start nor a landing. And usually they have to postpone launches a few times every time one of the safety alligators gets blown into an o-ring by a hurricane or so (Sorry, I don’t know how Florida works).

Thanks Sheralmyst, I got your glyphs and hope to check it out later today.

And thanks Sean that you let us lift off without caring about the weather.

What’s the character limit of the comm balls? We could mark nice spots with (shortened) astronaut quotes.

I felt exactly how you would feel if you were getting ready to launch and knew you were sitting on top of two million parts—all built by the lowest bidder on a government contract.

Yes//no//sorta -kzzkt-

After disabling and even uninstalling bitdefender, steam still had no read/write access to the NMS directory.

Some rogue windows process has it on lockdown, which is confusing because I have all of windows defender stuff off/disabled, because I use bitdefender.

But win 10 does dumb stuff all the time with updates who knows what it brought to the table or reinstalled. The last two updates added WhatsApp to my starting programmes. I have zero programmes set to run on startup and i dont use whatsapp on pc, never have

I made sure to check nothing was set to read only and no weird group permissions were causing conflicts. Ive no way of knowing whats interjecting steam. It can install or update/check file integrity of every other game fine.

The solution for now was just to install NMS to my HDD (it was on my SSD) but I havent had the chance or courage to try the Haven Extractor.

Its annoying because im very used to modding and ive never had this issue, meanwhile some people on the project, its their first time modding and it went fine  and theyre half my age.

I think computer problems just target the Olds and I’ve crossed the Threshold of being an Old now that its 2026 :upside_down_face:

Still charting manually.

I stumbled into a star chain last night and found two pairs of stars very very very close to each other, 0 ly distance.

Is the war over? I just uploaded five images on the first attempt

This is why my star citizen/kerbal friend bullys me about playing NMS

Cool idea. Idk the limit on comms…

And yes, the launch window extends into early spring. So we can just meet up and build and maybe even turn this into some kind of hub or something.

Let’s hope the launch goes well if this does become a springboard for a hub, otherwise it will have a pretty grim origin story. Or maybe we can just pretend the launch was both successful and a failure, to mirror player choice of Artemis in-game '^_ ^

Gonna pop by today and do some location scouting 07

Yes. It could become a memorial site instead…

But I am trying to manifest optimism
