What's Hubbening? - Transmissions from the Galactic Community

Errors usually, or perhaps someone abusing the system in some fashion.

You can actually submit a system without submitting any planets. The min requirements are name, glyphs, hostility, economy and Race.

For example, the Galactic Huh batch uploaded 5,000 systems from their own xml records. It had zero planet data. So right now we have 6500 systems total but the planet count is a lot lower as a result.

So far the rejections for us (the top three no-lifers on the leaderboard) have been submitting test systems with made up data to see if a bug or problem with the sub admin accounts was fixed/still occuring.

Thats why Ekimo has the most rejected, they’re the creator of the map. Sub admins have the power to approve submissions and I was given one, so ive entered the QA department

Civilisation/hub leaders/representatives can have admin accounts and then give sub admin accounts to other members of their civ. Only a civ member can approve a civ submission to prevent griefing etc.

Im not in any registered Civ on the map so I can only see and approve submissions that are tagged as Personal.

Theres some pretty good privacy features that took the galactic community into consideration. You can even set which system/planet data you want to be made public or private/viewable just for logged in members of your civ.

As for the Artemis blender plugin trick, I’ll absolutely make a guide now that I know how to do it.

I chose the NMS Base Deco Sphere for the initial experiment as it was the best object to use for geonodes “Distribute Points on Face/Mesh” function to get a smooth “sculpt”.

Im not that familiar with blender and learning geonodes for the first time so Im sure theres more advanced techniques that could be used, like a random assortment of multiple NMS items would be fun to try, but I dont really understand how collections etc function in blenders project window.

The colouring was just a quick slapdash while testing, plan to do a proper job, wood seems ro be the best bet for a single solid colour but gonna see how different textures suit different materials. Limited to the NMS colours so I dont know if ill be able to do their skin texture and colours too much justice.

The eyes also need some work. Beady ol Artemis

Experiments continue. I figured out a small tweak that reduced sphere count by about a quarter and still maintained form.

To the point I felt brave enough to attempt an entire model of Artemis.

The whole thing is coming in at 2500 spheres now.

I messed up somewhere in blender just before export so the spheres are rotated the wrong way, with the bottom facing outwords where the hard surface textures are on rust/metal, so it doesn’t look great RN in game but this is all still just proof of concept/experimentation, I’ll get the darn spheres sorted on the next run, for now I am giving my brain a break  My pc is also running super hot after all those spheres in blender/NMSBBapp

(screens taken on PC low/med settings)

You can see here how the accidental re- orientation on the spheres has somewhat made the form seem a lot more chaotic on the ones where I chose rusted metal

Zooming out you can see the chest straps as intended (they show up as the same colour as the body in the base build app even though they are set to be a different texture/shade of grey)

@toddumptious Haven does not have Vile Brood Detected in the resource list. Should I just add it in the notes?

There’s also no Activated Copper on the resource list

Ughhhhh…trying to submit my first entry and I get 3 phone calls and 2 texts and 2 of the calls were tech issues I had to address…I think I am finally ready to submit my first entry…only took 2 hours

Yup, Vile Brood goes in other notes. I usually put stuff in there like Water, Planetary rings etc. Use commas to seperate.

I think there will eventually be a planet features section for toggling things like water/planetary rings/dissonance etc

I just approved a personal submission, " Vikanis Entranna", was this you? ;-;

Shows up for me. I usually just type “copp” or “quart” etc and activated will always be top of the list and I hit enter, or if it’s not the activated version i’ll press down on the keyboard and hit enter.

When I first started using the map, this feature was not in place and you had to type everything out in full by hand and seperate by commas.

It’s so much quicker now

This happens to me almost every time I sit down to log some systems. My cats decide, “Hey, we have chosen you to play with us, you must play with us now.”

Yes. That’s me :hugs:

I saw it and was impressed the uploader had taken the time to also include Photos <3

Not many people do. Hoping when they upgrade the filters section for the map it includes a “show only systems with photos” option.

I had to move on to other things (now getting calls to be ready for a bad ice storm moving in) so I did not have time to look closely. Is there a way for me to revisit my personal entries? Can I pull them up?

Yup, if you search for them in the systems tab you can edit them.

If you search for them on the Map screen, and enter the region, this will also allow you to name the region or view the 3d planet and assign POI’s (still a WIP but currently functional)

You can give it an in-game region name if you wish or you can name it anything you want really, I see the Civ Hubs do this a lot, they have given new names to their regions even though theres no way to reflect this in-game.

Currently it’s not possible to rename a region for submissions using the personal tag as it is currently MIA from the list. The guy who codes the thing will be fixing that later tonight after work, if not in the following days.

I’ve been keeping a txt file of region names as I travel, so then I can just search the system name and rename the region when I regain the ability to do so.

There is no way to search a system by username as that stuff is kept private, I can’t even see who submits on the approval end, it just shows Anonymous. This information is only available to trusted Haven Admins should they need to message the user about a submission on Discord.

So it looks like Artemis launch date and time Feb 6/7 depending on where you live 2:41 UTC Feb 7. That will be 8:41 pm CST Feb 6 for me. If that date and time hold true, we can plan on meeting at the Artemis RV. I will post the coords here on the morning of the 6th.

If anyone else would like to pre-build in the system before the launch, DM me and I will give you the coords. For those who have it already, get your building done.

Got the full artemis model down to under 3000 parts so it’s uploadable. Now to find a place to plop it down

I have uploaded Full Bodied Artemis as a permadeath base so it will be visible across all game modes to visitors.

I still like the greater detail I was able to get out of just the bust so I think I will build one somewhere via a Creative Save (just so my main saves part limit aren’t all taken up by these gigantic Artemis’s). I’ve never started a creative mode save before so it will be an experience I can cross off the list too.

Once my silly obsession with making Artemis out of spheres is out of the way I’m going to take a little break and then return to build some actual in-game bases and ideas I have for the system.

I’ve got four saves across two profiles/usernames set up and ready to go in the system.

I went a little overboard today after being to a neighbours Funeral, many distractions needed, built/started 3 bases in the system. Keeping mum on the subject to save the surprises for when people visit

Waiting to be surprised.

So many funerals :worried: Here’s a hug :hugs:

I added a base on the greenish toxic planet. Cape Grah Neverall. It’s funny because the recurring weather anomaly (green cloud) becomes part of the base.

Huh? NPC ships keep “buzzing my tower,” the impertinence! This is a serious historic space expedition on a tight schedule, get out of my airspace! We have enough to worry about the weather already.

Speaking of becoming part of the base. … If a gigantic worm jumped when I landed, will it do that for everyone in the same place…?

Hmmmm….maybe. It seems they do tend to jump right after landing

Landing has a chance of triggering a worm.

Thats how they pulled off the end ceremony during UD2025 after the speech was done.

Some were directed to set off fireworks at speeches end and other organisers were directed to repeatedly land and take off behind the arena to trigger the worms.

It never occured to me this could be turned into a spectacle but it certainly was.

Just took a trip out to Cape Ca, er, Grah Neverall.

After a long climb up the ladder the door refused to open. I thought I could talk my way on but the security system already accounted for that. They didn’t expect me to have my own rockets strapped to my back so I skirted around and wished the crew good luck 07

NPC ships continue to fly illegally in the air space, I yelled at them a bunch, shouted “shame on you” a bunch so I bet they’re feeling real bad about their actions right now. I bet…

No sign of giant worms, if that keeps up it should be a safe launch!

I also kinda built something similar and we took a similar approach with the bevelling as it reaches the top. Mines not nearly as impressive because I used Base Builder App to cheat the scale and get things lined up. Yours is way more on brand for NMS base building

All this talk of Capes has me wanting a new cape themed on Artemis Launch. DO IT HG! I DARE YOU!

edit:

@sheralmyst

I’m trying to figure out what a meter is in NMS so I can get the height right. Got conflincting info online that 1u = 1m or it could be 0.5m . Trying to figure out if walls or door height or shelving would be my best guess at guaging what is 2m and then scale up from there, Can’t look straight down or straight up so that’s going to slightly skew any measurements.

The controller suddenly vibrated on my leg when your ship landed and clued me to a travellers arrival
