Nms echoes (update discussion)

No power today so I jumped into my Steam Deck game. I am plagued with the no ship bug when on the mission to salvage a ship for the top of my first staff. I warped way away to finish the Atlas Path, hoping it would allow me to reset the mission but, it did not. Now my Deck battery is drained and power crews are still replacing transformers.
Grabbed one pic cause I forgot to translate this in my PC save.

When you do not get a crashed ship at the quest location pointed to, just ignore and go scrap any other ship worth the requested value or more. It will progress regardless without any issues. No clue why they made it seem like you really need to use the one at location, could/should have been clearer.

Find a Korvax Monolith to interact with the Discordant Interface. Supply the correct glyphs by recharging it with Atlantideum (48). Create a restore point now if you wish to check for a change of the MT. After that, interact with the Discordant Interface once more to buy the new Atlas MT with Nanites. Reloading your restore point instead may change the MT once.

I looked at the discoveries page, and saw that there were 32 autophage words I didn’t know.

I visited four autophage camps, and learned all the words I could. I didn’t count them, but it must have been around 15 words.

Going back to my discoveries page now, there are still 32 words I don’t know.

Also, sometimes when I ask for words, instead it gives me what appears to be a programming instruction:

I don’t know if this is a bug, or some sort of joke.

Both are reference IDs to text in the localisation files, but because these IDs do not exist, it fails to translate it to something we are actually supposed to read there, showing the ID instead. Best to report this bug to Hello Games, providing the screenshots.

Looking at the IDs, the text is supposed to say something to point you to a new POI (directions). I suggest to have a look around to see if it added an icon for this POI?

Or you could also read the Stories file…same as the lore that gets unlocked in game. Its in order.
I posted a readable version of it also.

Not everyone wants to replay missions or start over to read updates to lore. Yes its likely a better experience.

Also WIKI will likely have been, or will be updated with the new lore also.

  1. Fly around in a straight line, look smoke
  2. Map
  3. Use Observatory

Buy a perfectly good ship and melt it for parts lol

… Looked at bug reports one reddit. I think I’ll wait for a few more patches before I even try to play.

I’m debating starting fresh after the next update (or related expedition?) I’d like to get the ā€œFull effectā€ of updated and added lore as you progress.

I have been diligently visiting autophage camps, learning their language. I have visited a further 10 camps, and learned all the words the residents would teach me. There are still 32 words I don’t know.

It seems no matter how many words I learn, those 32 are forever beyond my reach.

edit - 32 is 16 x 2. Coincidence?

In the meantime I am stuck on PS5 trying to trigger A Trace of Metal…what am I forgetting? I will never get to the new story… :sleepy:

Trace of Metal starts part-way through The Settlers. If I remember rightly, after the second sentinel attack.

I’m playing an old save (470hrs). Fed up with keep starting again and doing the same old things, but never quite finishing.

Anyway, one of the problems I have now is that something has happened to both my shield and health pips. They’ve been drastically reduced to only 3 health and a 1/4 length shield bar.

How to build up health (pips)? I have lots of B grade stuff on my health ā€œtanksā€. In the past the health pips just seemed to grow in number the more I played.

I seem to have finished ā€œa trace of metalā€ at some point in this save, but I’m still wondering what a harmonic camp is. I found a dissonant star system but haven’t notice anything different to any others, but I got sidetracked (as per normal in NMS) by refitting my old freighter amongst other things.

Meanwhile starfield will be out soon, but I’ll try and hold off from buying it for a few weeks/months/years until the bugs have been squashed.

If your save was old enough to be from before they updated/expanded the inventory system then likely all of your shield tech was packaged up and put into the main storage area. They will be gray, and have shield icons.

Installing them into the tech area above (you may have to upgrade the number of tech slots first) should get your shielding back. Tech that can upgrade your bar and pips are the shields, hazard protection, star seed, remembrance (I think), the sentinel upgrades, and the new suit upgrades from the autophage terminals.

The max pips seems to be nine. I don’t know how strong my shields are but I don’t usually have problems with any hazard.

In the dissonent system, there should be a planet covered in purple crystals. Corrupted Plsnet
I am searching for one now on PS5. I seem to be in a section of space overrun with pirated systems so I have not found a dissonent one yet

Finally had my 2nd pirate frigate encounter. Saved the civilian fleet but the frigate got away. There are so many red arrows and only once for brief moment did I see an icon pointing to what I needed to be firing at. Anyone have a schematic of these things? Even Luke knew where that exhaust portal was at,

To answer an earlier post regarding finding wrecked starships.
My quick go-to method is to carry the makings of a Nautilon Geobay (if you dont have the means to summon one). Ensure it is equipped with scanning equipment and use it to scan for drowned starships on any watery planet.

Finding watery worlds is easy via the galactic map as are Dissonant worlds. It’s written in orange when you highlight a system.

To find Harmonic Camps I resorted to flying low & slow in 3rd person mode on disonant worlds & just searched & searched. It’s important to keep low & cruise very slowly to allow the render distance to work in your favour as it is easy to miss them.
In stormy conditions they often present as 3 ā€˜shapes’ that are inconsistant with the rest of the terrain/visibility.

EDIT See @GullyFourmyle s post below for a much better way to find a Harmonic Camp.

When on a dissonant world you can find the Dissonace Resonators with the analysis visor. They will either drop an inverted mirror or an echo locator. You can see which by just walking up to them (the sentinels will leave you alone until you fire).

Once you find an echo locator you can move away and fire on the resonator from a distance. I like a slightly upgraded bolt caster with the combat scope to stabilize the shots. It takes (last time I counted) about 12 hits from a bolt caster to destroy one of these things. If the sentinels get close just run, they only search for 10 seconds unless you fire on one of them. Watch out for the little spiders, they can jump a long way. I have been able to fire from 200u away and the sentinels gave up before getting to me, but often other sentinels will sneak up from behind.

This planet is a grassy one with medium hills which are easier to escape the sentinels. The storms are gravitational so you don’t have to worry about the planet trying to kill you. Portal code at the bottom. Note this is not a pirate system so don’t get into your ship unless you are ready to fight the flyers.

Activating the echo locator in your inventory will show you the location of a camp (if you are not on an empty planet that is).
