Check the lore keeper maybe it can give you some idea of your progression in the different threads?
I was looking through them earlier myself because I realised all those changes @Polyphemus was reporting and stringchange textdumps provided by @dragonsire should be reflected in those on my main save.
They were
Amidst all this excitement I forgot the Staff isn’t the only new weapon. Has anyone figured out where the new Atlas (?) multitool is hiding? Thats going to be my next port of call if I can pull myself away from doing good deeds for delicious motes.
Well, I have one. How did I get it? I can’t remember. I got it at the end of the story but, was it part of the story or was it at the new vending machines where you cash in the points from the autophage jobs? Each camp has some items that are different from each other. But I cannot remember how I got the thing. I definitely did not go looking for it.
Ooh maybe its because I had no free multitool slots? Just to make sure I didn’t get locked out of more story, the new adventure ends when you return from the atlas and talk to Nada right? Cos I didn’t get any more after that I recall Nada asking could they keep the Atlantideum, and I said yes. Then that was it (I assume until part 4).
Been having fun learning the autophage language and getting a clearer picture as I understand more of the history they tell me. I know there are Korvax monoliths to check out too but havent gone chasing those yet either. Everything is on the long finger
Yes, you must have a free slot for it. I did not so I switched to a MT I did not mind losing. And,yes, that is the end of the story. I am still picking up interesting bits working the autophage missions.
If you’re thinking of using the new multi-tool scrapping service, be very careful. Make a hard save before you try.
I’ve tried it a few times now, and it can be quite unpredictable about which multitool it scraps. Not only that, but on one occasion, restoring to a soft (ship exit) save did not bring my old multitool back.
OK. Having been more or less forced to play the whole game again from the start, I am able to report:
The game now tries to make you play through “Artemis / Expanding Base / The Purge”, then “The Settlers / A Trace of Metal”, then it wants you to find a harmonic camp.
The reason for this is that all these story lines have undergone major changes, some to the gameplay, but mostly to the lore, which has been enormously expanded.
I know it’s boring to go through the game again, particularly for the 10th or 12th time, but if you’ve only played the old version, you’re missing out on most of the story. Reading the new lore extracted from datamining doesn’t really work. It’s not much help knowing what somebody’s reply was, when you don’t know what question they were answering. The extracted text is all out of context, disjointed, and mixed up. It makes a lot more sense if you actually play it.
Does the lore section on the discovery screen reflect the text that I saw when I played it? Or does it show a summary of the mission (in its updated state)? I browsed through the lore and saw nothing surprising, so I assume I only saw the “old” version?
What does “old” mean, Atlas Rises, Next, Beyond, …? I don’t recall when I started my current save, probably Beyond. Is there something on the Discovery screen where you could tell me, if this line says “this” then it’s old, and if it says “that” then I have the new lore?
I really can’t afford the time to play through the game right now… Maybe some time after october… Oh well, at least this content won’t go away until then.
It’s hard to say. I’ve looked at my own discovery screen for my current playthrough, and it reflects pretty much exactly what I experienced in-game - this includes the conversation / question choices I made. So, where I made a choice, it doesn’t include the alternatives - only the one I saw.
I don’t see how the discovery screen could include the old dialogue, since that no longer exists within the game.
Unfortunately, the reason I had to replay Artemis, The Purge, The Settlers, and A Trace of Metal, was because I no longer had a save that included my original playthroughs of those sections. I have no way of comparing discovery screens from the old game and the new one.
Does anyone remember which part of the story diverged? I scanned through the files linked on the “maximum spoilers” page, and of course I don’t recall 100% (e.g. I didn’t recall what -null- said), but I haven’t come across anything striking yet. Just wondering if I’m up-to-date missing something.
I may be wrong here but my impression over the years has been regular moments of, ‘I don’t remember that bit’ or ‘Is that new?’, while doing a new playthrough.
I think on some updates bits of text were fixed & tidied up and on other updates quite large sections were added or re-written.
So to say ‘when’ the greatest changes happened is kind of hard.
My thoughts have been to continue on with one of my newest saves (Expedition) & just play through the entire lore experience all over again to learn as much as I can but at a relaxed pace.
If I’m getting bored or starting to rush, I may miss something so that’s when I’ll switch to a different save & just play without the need to focus on following the story too hard.
One thing NMS does, is it sometimes gets annoying with the slow text scroll with all the ‘kzzzzt’ & I find myself spamming the action button to just flick through it.
IMO, NMS would benifit from a slider option that went from the chill but slow current style to a speedrunner click, click, click, fast style for those who just want to play the game & not learn the lore so much or have already recently done it.
