NMS: BEYOND pre-release August 14

That’s a fairly crucial point. The other players were there, but you didn’t have to join in, or interact with them. You could just get on with your own quicksilver quest - and as soon as you left the designated planet, the other players were gone.

I’m no fan of multiplayer - but my experience so far of its implementation in NMS is that it has caused me litttle to no inconvenience. I expect that to remain an option.

Talking about mobil apps, they also made clear there will be no microtransactions (like bethseda does) and the update is totally free for existent players

On PS4, you can go into Settings>System>Automatic Downloads and uncheck the “Application Update Files” box. That should prevent the system from downloading the update. NMS doesn’t require you to have the latest update installed to play, so you can keep playing the version you have now.

Don’t worry fellow traveller!

Yes, there are. And this board is comprised of a surprising number of them, including myself and zsigmond, who both answered to your post, which for some weird reason you interpreted as us mocking you.

Also, as far as I can see, it is pretty much confirmed that PS+ won’t be required, considering the utter lack of absence of any mention of it as a requirement.

Relax, and stop being antagonistic. It doesn’t shine a good light on you to lash out at people that think the same way you do.

Jumping in on this conversation a bit late but…
I recall early on in NEXT, one of our small group (of usually solo-players), being advised that they were unable to join the lobby as they ‘required a ps+ subscription’. I believe they bought a cheap short term subscription and were the able to experience mutiplayer.
I may have this wrong so don’t quote me…it was quite a while back.

On top of that, my own experiences for online play were varied.
I could not host a lobby at all via one of my internet services but could via another.
Depending which service I used, I could expect medium lag to cronic lag while joining others, due to poor quality internet reception.

During Community Events I could not stay online to go through the quest portal as my PS4 crashed upon regestering all the other players.
My solution was to simply go online long enough for the game to register the new mission and suggest I summon the Anomoly Station. I could have my chat with Polo then turn off NETWORK (PS4). I could then complete the mission all alone and without crashes.
If this experience is an example of how NMS online community events will work in BEYOND then I would think that either;
the Nexus will be summonable at any time for shops and NPC interaction, with NETWORK on providing the extra access required for multiplayer interaction…
OR…
The Nexus will be limited to NETWORK on only but will not be essential for general gameplay.

However it works, Sean clearly stated in the interview that about 20% of players used multiplayer, which to me suggests a dirrect acknowledgement that 80% do not. It would make no sence that the majority of the update would be focused on multiplayer features not available to solo players.
As for requiring constant online access vs occasional online log-in…I’m not sure what will happen there.
Hopefully that will be covered via a settings menu allowing personalization of how you access everything so solo players can remain solo even if online.

This seems a bit weird… I think the actual missions were propagated through the same mechanics as discoveries, and didn’t require you to actually have multiplayer enabled. I’m pretty sure about that because the GoG version didn’t even have multiplayer until mid-january this year, yet I could still do the community missions. Alone of course, but I saw all the bases and comm balls hanging around.

So I would expect that “discovery online” and “multiplayer online” are still two different things, with the first certainly not requiring PSN+.

No idea about the actual multiplayer of course.

I think that will also be the case for the Nexus. I mean’, it’s basically the anomaly, and during the community missions we could summon that in with a simple scan. Then go aboard and get the mission, or buy something at the quicksilver bot, and as long as the discovery connection was up all of that worked without a hitch. I don’t expect the nexus to be any different.

If i didn’t go online, the Community Mission didn’t click over to the next one and simply remained ‘completed’. Once activated on one save it would then work on other saves and other profiles throughout the week without any need to go online again. The alternating (24hr) missions kept working too but new missions from Polo required online access to update.
Maybe it’s a PS4 thing…?

I agree that multiplayer and discoveries are distinctly separate. I would regularly need to briefly go online to scan for local CONTACTs so I didn’t accidentally re-explore recently discovered systems by my neighbours without actually needing to do any kind of multiplayer interaction.
If I stayed online I would encounter bases, comms and even another player without ever activating any multipler options.

An interesting recent discovery was that even when powering up offline, I can start up a save and still see 3 neighbours bases and comms which are just in sight from my own base.

I’m yet to understand what the toggle option for AMBIENT MULTIPLAYER does…

I can remember that being the case on ps4 too, having played offline till I was confident the multi player options were sorted. That said, to this day I get the odd random appearing in my game even though ambient multiplayer is always off and mp is set to invite only.

BTW: there are now 82 twitch channels carrying NMS.

This is all very interesting. My experience with Comm Events was to play online. As I entered the community area, I would be placed into someones party. I could hear what they were saying. This was sometimes hilarious because I wondered if they realized others were randomly popping in and out of their party.
I admit, it was noisy.
I would simply mute them in the game settings and go about my business.
I wonder how noisy it will be in the Nexus.

For as far as I know, this will only postpone the update. As soon as you wish to play, it will force an update when available. I could be wrong though, as I am not a PS4 user …

Pretty similar to how Steam works I guess. Unless you force or cheat it into believing it is up-to-date, or go offline/remove internet. Luckily on PC you have options to do so, not sure about PS4 though.

It will just advise that “an update is available”, & give the option to update or to continue on without ‘online features’.

Ok, so ‘offline’ mode is an option, preventing a forced update when selecting to play. Good to know, because from what I heard, many games will just force an update regardless due to online requirement.

That may indeed be the case with games that always require internet connection.
I only use games that will run offline so cannot comment regarding other types of games.

Ps+ is required to party up and play together.

A connection to discovery/online services is required to recieve community updates from hello games, be it new discoveries, weekly events, or whatever new things the nexus brings. However this does not require a ps+ subscription.

Id say it will stay the same for Beyond, mad hatters experiences are very unique to him as hes in quite a remote area but it’s still always a blast when we get to play together

So much fun in fact, one has to make a video about it

@Simran_Dhillon I dunno why, I thought you were much younger and was leaning towards “ah they’ve probably been busy with the leaving cert this year” :joy: good to hear yr focusing on your college work over playing space games, I can’t really say the same for myself * glares at mounting course work * shut up, I’ll start you when I want to

I finished my leaving cert and got my results last year, so I did games development in college. Going into second year now lol
