This I got for free at the start while walking:
The red blinding light is now almost constant:
Is that a person or a grave? A citizen scientist? :-o That’s also what I chose.

What has happened in the last 24 hours?
There were no bases when I played.
I kept thinking I was being fired upon but I believe it’s the creatures swimming in the dirt that are throwing red sparks as the pass.
I turned off MP because I could not see my destination marker amongst the player icons.
I hit this bug too, it was a different texture/surface though, and kept flickering on the horizon depending which way I looked at it.
It seems the texture bug that infects our text boxes etc some times has escaped into the physical nms realm.
Returning to menu and reloading save will fix it.
Another bug I noticed is, if you do a scan on foot, then enter the colossus, some of the basic resources a scan pings, will have the Industrial Waste symbol as their icon.
The laser particle effect that follows you also mimics your camera movement, it seems to be a bug with your own colossus laser, similar to the multi tool laser particle bug that used to happen in the past. It does not seem to cause any damage but it does feel like sometimes you’re being chased or followed by some road warriors in another colossus.
I didn’t see any bases until I finished the expedition phases and left the planet, and then bases started showing up.
Seeing them early might also be a bug, similar to how some people got access to their starship early.
I did find an OG base terminal spawned in the wild, somewhere between the second and first waste heap RV sites. I was tempted to try it but kept driving, I wonder if some people got bases working early this way?
One of the achievements was to drive the colossus 50,000 u. At the speed the colossus travels, this took 12 years real-time. I was worried the journey might become boring, but after four years I saw a rock. Then, after another four years, I saw a plant. After another four years I found a small brown animal. I was almost unable to contain my excitement. As an achievement I won the title” We Told Him To Drive Huge Distances Really Slowly, And He Was So Stupid That He Did”.
@Polyphemus For some unexplainable reason as I read your post my mind formed a voiceover narration in the squeaky voice of the guy hanging on the dungeon wall in Monty Python’s in Life of Brian,
“What I’d give to be spat at in the face”.
And now I can’t stop smirking.
For context, I’ve been sort of avoiding this expedition because I’m not as excited at being a space-trucking, junk hauler as some others here & your post resonated with my expectations.
This popped for me near the end after driving to and from every waste heap. I didn’t even realise it was a milestone, I just winged this expedition and luckily got everything passively. Except for the waypoints one, when it came its turn and I realised I could have been clocking waypoints this whole time, it hit me right in the chest. Going around and trying to get waypoints that counted towards the total (its a bit bugged with MP turned on) probably also helped me hit that 50,000 U’s sooner.
There are people who love it. I imagine they extract their own teeth for fun.
Or vacume floors for a hobby in their spare time ![]()
I got everything without thinking or planning except I needed a few more special trash containers. That left me running back and forth to the nearest trash heap as it slowly respawned what I needed.
I got the waypoints without issue because the game doesn’t save when you exit the Colossus so I saved at the waypoint beacons each chance I got.
My first job was doing deliveries on a bike so maybe that’s why I find gameplay like this appealing. Indoctrination ![]()
@toddumptious I’m actually only a little bit of an ‘old & grumbly’ lorry driver, however I thought I’d best side with Poly because we are both ancient ones & we wrinklies have got to stick together (or we may fall over).
I’m going to kickstart off on the expedition (solo- no multiplayer) in a couple of hours. Tempted to use an established save so if you’ve got any hints on what to bring with me, let me know.
Don’t bring anything because even if you do, you’re not getting anywhere near the Anomaly until the end of the expedition.
At least not intentionally; you can find your starship but you can’t use it until the end unless it bugs out and you get access early.
It doesn’t even have a nav marker but it will appear somewhere close to the spawn-in zone.
The nearest trade station is also an hours walk but you will get a trade rocket for completing a certain milestone which will help clear inventory space eventually. The games gonna give you lots of cake, some of them will be useful for the injestor too with increasing resistance to local biome hazard.
Theres a good chunk of reasource grind at the start, but you’ll want silver and oxygen to make paraffinium, the silver can be found in the caves as a secondary resource from cobalt stalags.
It’s good that both you and poly are very vocal about these things. If I ever find myself in either of your neck of the woods, I’ll know not to bring any garbage from the airports gift shop your way. Or fishing gear. Liverpool is definitely more likely a destination than parts unknown australia. My dad will insist on dragging me to an Everton match before he passes, I’m sure of it. Although that might be a good reason to go hide in the middle of nowehre in Australia.
Much appreciated. I probably wouldn’t have worked that out for ages
I probably wouldn’t have either, luckily @sheralmyst was the Guinea Pig for this expedition and hit the roadblocks first ![]()
Has anyone else noted that this update seems to have a different art style than the rest of the game?
The recycling machinery is much more cartoon-ish than usual, and thare’s a feel of adolescent comedy about the whole thing - I mean, a furnace with teeth??
It looks to me like this update is the result of an outreach project or apprenticeship involving a local secondary school or FE college. Recycling is just the sort of “worthy” subject matter that schools or colleges would agree was safe and uncontroversial.
Weird. It was telling me to use Pyrite and Ferrite dust right off the bat… Getting enough silver on that planet sounds like a rather tedious chore.
You only require a small amount & there are plenty of caves.
There’s silver in caves now? Guess it shows that I’m not exactly a regular player anymore! ![]()
Either recipe work well. I already had the silver when the time came. Resource gathering was not an issue in this expedition. Once you get the Colossus built, you then have your mining laser in the Colossus which you can easily use as you travel around gathering trash. Then you get the scoop on the front and soon you will be running over in materials.
There’s something growing at the bottom of the nuclear dumpster.
The teethy one is for the explosives. Though I would think teeth were not needed.
But I am unchanged in my opinion. I like the new dumping site. I would think scavengers and scrappers would enjoy this addition. It certainly makes acquiring nanites much easier
