Got another patch
The milestone in Phase 3, Roadsigns, seems a bit buggy and I imagine it’s mostly because I’m playing with MP on, not eveyr waypoint I saved at was registering, but there were plenty around and it was an excuse to drive off the beaten path on the way to and from Waste Heaps.
One thing I’m having fun doing is using the network of dried river beds as my main avenues or “highways”. Nice and save to drive on, just watch out for the potholes. And by pothols I mean cave-holes.
Having a blast being a space trucker. Sure it’s garbage disposal but ultimately the experience is no different than any other delivery game. I could even draw parallels to the experience that Death Stranding delivers, minus the whacky japanese exposition and tear jerking scenery/music.
Spin tires/ Snowrunners, euro truck Sim, star citizen (when doing delivery jobs) all also come to mind. Minus the penalty of getting stuck in the mud or being blown to smithereens and losing hours of progress.
Edit:
Just got my spider legs and making my way to the final waste heap, I have enjoyed how it’s all centred around this one valley where when you reach the peak of any side of the valley, you can see the journey home to the waste refiner ahead of you.
I know the spider legs are an expedition exclusive reward, so it’s totally fine that they haven’t done this, but the particle effects of dust etc still spew out like you’re driving with tires/tracks
I find the effect very funny all the same. I wonder if they’ll patch in Spidery Leg specific particle animations eventually?
I found an OG spawned base computer in the wild too that nobody had claimed as far as I could tell but it might just be culled, should one build a base there, or restricted full stop. I didn’t stop to check. Had places to be, explosive waste to see.
Bit of a warning about the spider legs. While it is essentially just the colossus driving as normal but with animated legs instead of wheels, it cannot walk over fields of crystal like heridium etc. It either gets blocked by them completely or even gets stuck on them.
Spider no like crystal, Drive, er, walk around if you can 07
Hello @MacForADay ! Congrats! and hang in there! We are all a little mental these days.
Spider legs are the best but you do sit a little lower so beware all containers and some crystals.
I had a ton of fun with this one and I can’t really explain why. Because it was different, I think. I am going to enjoy owning my own dump truck.
My spider kept getting caught in other things webs too
Poor lil big guy.
Nice job on completing the Expedition, can you go to space now or how do you get to the terminal rewards terminal? Or did you start with a fresh save?
I’m just at the last waste heap. Taking a short break for sandwich and beverage before the final trip.
I used my main save.
For some reason, my ship became available about half way thru the expedition. Not sure that was supposed to happen.
When you finish, it says your ship is now available. Did not have to fix anything.
That works as well, but didn’t it say Pyrite + Ferite dust?
It was easy to miss, because the previous recipe also asked for Ferite Dust. And I’m not sure whether it mentioned using the Refiner? This one might be hard for beginners to figure out.
One task is to save waypoints, does this ever count up for you?
I have added the countdown timer and expedition overview to the top post.
Considering we don’t have to leave the planet to finish, I am not sure locations are needed. Will look into it some more tomorrow, as I have not had the time to do so yet.
Yes it does give that recipe. For some reason, mine was not telling me what to use until I looked it up online and started making it with the silver, then it decided to tell me what I was supposed to be using.
This expedition was fairly bug free. That is the only issue I had. I had the fauna scan not triggering until I uploaded the thing for the nanites and that triggered the milestone reward.
All in all, one of the smoothest expeditons.
Waypoints weren’t always counting up when I used them to chart/save, I think this may have had something to do with MP being on but not so sure. I had to go to/use about 9-10 waypoints to get my 6 waypoints.
There are plenty of drop pods nearby you can find with your exocraft scanner, just stop at every POI you see and use the cyclops scope while driving once its unlocked, to check for any nearby as you drive towards waste heaps and back again.
I have also encountered this with my playthrough this morning. It is sitting at 2/6 with the last 2 waypoints not counting.
Also, I must say this expedition is my least favorite. It reminded me of the frustration I occasionally felt playing Death Stranding. I do appreciate that this update and expedition is free, and they add more variety to the game.
It reminded me of death stranding too in that sense, but I was less frustrated and more amused. But I also played a lot of spin tires and snow runners with friends, and that game is all about getting stuck and losing cargo/waiting for friends to come pull you out of the mud so it’s definitely a subjective thing. I feel I do have less time for those kind of games as I get older though and the days seems exceedingly shorter.
I realise that trucks are transparent so we don’t stand in each others way. But was it so laggy for you as well? All animals and all players were zipping around like stroboscope slideshows. Also, daylight abruptly switched on and off every few minutes, I saw no pattern. I noticed the light and sound of NPC frigates and they appeared 10 sec later, half across the sky. The planet was full of the same spaceship stacked on top of itself (with different owners), I first thought that was scrap too. Some ships were hanging nose down from the sky. My truck also once stood on its nose (luckily, only scrap metal was loaded). I used the player markers to navigate to busy places because some of the scannable icons were covered up by too many players. Crazy ![]()
Updated the expedition overview, as I forgot to paste the current version I extracted.
Daylight switching seems to be tied to when a new player enters or someone else leaves, I think it’s a peer 2 peer system where one player is assigned “host” for things to sync up for everyone.
This has always been the way with multiplayer in No Mans Sky for as far back as I can remember. I think being in a group prevents this but not entirely sure it’s 100% desync free
I found vehicles in the distance to be quite laggy, especially when ramping or going at high speeds. People and vehicles up close, not so much.
You can find your own ship amongst those stacked together ships. It seems we all spawned with a ship (you can see it in the summon ship list too) but we are denied access or navigation to it. I think @sheralmyst stumbled into thiers, and got a message about havign to find another means of escape, they also gained access to it early later on I believe as a result.
I got mine right at the end, with a message saying “don’t forget to transfer wanted resources from your colossus before heading to the Anomaly”.
I noticed a few NPC starships behaving odd in the sky too, I wonder if it’s because they seemed to not be permitted to land like they normally would, and were maybe having a problem with their behavioural patterns as a result.
Frigates seemed to behave normally for me though I can’t say for certain wether there was a delay with their sound or appearance, I usually noticed their shadow passing over me first.
I did stumble upon my ship. I saw other ships sitting in the area as well. I think it’s deliberately that way because there is no need for it til the expedition has ended. You will get the trade rocket as a reward for one milestone and that allows you to empty your pockets somewhat but there is no reason to have money in this expedition…
I wish I had recorded my trade rocket. It immediately took to skidding across the ground. I bore a whole thru a hill to help it escape just to watch it spiral into a valley and bounce and spin off one tree after another.
I like how hello games optimized the Corvette to be playable on the original switch. I don’t know how they did it especially because the switch has horrible textures and overall performance on the whole big ship thing. but I’m glad they did. the switch players were probably missing out on a lot of the fun of the game.
Yes it was very laggy for me and more so the longer I played. I did finally see some of the other player’s vehicles but only when they were sitting still
What even is this.
(A series of screenshots as seen in the Steam Preview)
It was like a ring, or large disk, cutting through the waste disposal. Sometimes it was a red transparent grid and sometimes a reflective dark surface. Ships shadows were visible on it and it covered my vision several times.
It looks like rings from the nearby planet? I have never seen them be transparent though. I have encountered them a few times. It happens when the planets are too close
