So my daughter has confirmed a post on steam. Claim the reward for the research project then immediately go into camera mode. It stops the softlock.
The reward icon will pop up while in camera mode.
Just back out of camera with your back button.
She says people are frozen in place all over the anomaly
As Iāve mentioned before, I often have lag issues if I have multiplayer going on PS5.
I usually just turn everything off in settings & just leave the internet connection & then itās smooth.
Occasionally I turn it on & if I chance to encounter a noob, (Radiant Pillar 1 ship & orange suit), Iāll gift them some big time-saving items, such as a bunch of Salvage Data or S modulesā¦but thatās about the limit of my interactions.
Iām not a particularly social person at the best of times so I might avoid the Anomoly if its full of ghosts.
Unfortunately itās unlikely to be related to the expedition. I have multiplayer disabled all across the board, and the hangs and crashes donāt occur at times or locations that would be specific to the expedition.
Itās more likely that support for my outdated hardware is slowly being patched out of the game⦠![]()
I know that feeling. My CPU is last in its line, AMD FX that uses an AM2+socket. My mobo is also limited to the AM2+ socket. If I want to upgrade my CPU at this stage it means a whole new mobo and a bunch of other stuff.
Some games are utilising some new texture streaming or shader streaming trick that only modern CPUs can utilise (AVX2). Itās not a case of āthis is going to run badā, either; it just wont boot up at all without it.
Have encountered it with Alan Wake 2 and Uncharted 4 PC port but all signs are pointing to my CPU become obsolete probably next console cycle.
Which is a shame because itās a beast. Eight core 3.8ghz overclocked to 4.1, itās a decade old and still pairs well with an RTX 2060 (bottlenecked by CPU and pcie2 ports but dlss is saving my bacon for modern titles).
I was saving for a new build but things kinda got derailed last year, switched gears and decided Iād get a ps5 first to buffer me and then get back to saving for a new build once I got FF7 outta my system.
Worst case scenario if I donāt have one before LNF releases Iāll at least have future proofed myself with the console purchase.
Speaking of, shocked by the prices of AAA games on console. Ninety quid is the standard.
Meanwhile Iām playing No Manās Sky Omega Expedition on ps5, fully uograded for next gen, for free because I bought it on ps4 seven years ago <3 (safely back on topic)
Iām so very fortunate that NMS even works with my old my GTX 960 (4GB). NVIDIA says it canāt handle NMS, but lowering most graphics options letās me play. I rarely have freezes and very rarely a crash.
I consider myself lucky. The cost of a modern graphics card is too pricey for me.
My PC is past EOL and canāt upgrade to Win11. So I have been planning to research a ābeefed upā buy that will keep my happy for years. Iāll try to include a significantly faster video card with more memory.
I was using the GTX 960 up til last year, NVIDIA GE likes to say it canāt run a lot of things but I think it considers anything below 1080/60 as not playable. Iām happy out with 15-25 frames thank you very much NVIDIA , I WILL play Deathloop ![]()
I got a new card. Maybe too new. It was running NMS like a dream then after an update, I found I could no longer open a 2D screen without my PC crashing to the login. However, I believe this is a mesa driver issue. They released one update that stopped the crashing. Now it just freezesā¦
Canāt even remember which card I haveā¦meanwhile, my daughter is running NMS with my old RTX 580ā¦
So I am playing on Steam Deck and PS5 while I waitā¦and waitā¦
Decided to pay for a year of online play on PS5 so I may see some of you out there.
Where have the salvaged frigate modules gone? Not getting any at crashed freighters or derelict freighters. Not finding them in cargo pods with freighters or seeing any missions offering them.
Iām finding them while pirating freighters in pirate systems both as missions or as random hoodlum snatch & run attacks.
Occasionally among frigate mission loot too.
Rare but they are still out there.
I think Nexus missions sometimes have them as rewards.
During the expedition I got one from a crashed freighter and two from derelict freighters.
I donāt shoot normal freighters much. Iāve been unlucky lately and only ran into one derelict that had more than a few blue boxes. I think the spawn rate for the modules must be <4% so it takes 25 boxes or so for one to (randomly) show up. I came to that conclusion on a different save where I found a ship with 50 boxes, I would average a bit less than 2 per run. My friend likes shooting freighters but that has been slim picking for a while now, I usually get them faster than he does. In the previous save my frigate mission would return 2-3 per week.
Thanks both of you.
I used to snatch them from the cargo pods but even the Freighter spawn rate seems slower. Maybe it is just where I am. The pirate system freighters seem to be mostly loaded with illegal goods.
I got 1 on a derelict freighter. 2 hours of trying everything.
Submitted a complaintā¦er uhā¦suggestion
It can be hit or miss I find, was doing them a lot during expedition to get some better warp drives for my freighter.
One planet I hit three crashed freighters and came away with 6 or 8 I think. Next seven freighters I got none ![]()
I remember finding a system on my PC playthrough that had derelicts that always gave good amount of modules and s class tech at the end. Iāll boot it up when I get in and grab a portal address for you, built a base there if I ever needed to get back to it.
Ouch. I see my comm balls are not persisting. The wiki says a maximum of 3 per system, but I donāt think Iām getting even that many. I canāt see any of the ones Iāve previously placed. This makes me very sad.
Does anyone know if Iām missing or misunderstanding something?
I think its a ālobbyā type thing.
(My terminology may be wrongā¦maybe one of the more computer litterate members can explain better).
My interpretation:
There are many āversionsā of the places you (& everyone else go) & Iāve noticed on return trips sometimes its often a completely different collection of message balls.
I donāt place any myself but it makes sense to me that its possible they vanish for the player who places them too.
I remember a looong time ago, if I edited one of my own messages it ended up stacking multiple message balls.
You are spreading them across space and time. Think of them as being in the 4th dimension. They are out there somewhere. ![]()
Ok so here is what I am running nowā¦
I just could not remember⦠![]()
and I still cannot open a 2D window in NMS. All other games run fine.
Sent all info to HG. Not sure where the issue lay but it started after one of the NMS updates before Omega.
Ok so NMS is actually a video? I had to have va-api. So it could play the background for the menusā¦
All Greek to me but NMS is working again on my PC
I wondered if it might be some form of instancing or server shards or whatever HG calls their technique for controlling the number of players that can be present in a specific region of space at one time. And I suppose comm balls are special in that they are intended to be seen by other players, even though I am playing with multiplayer disabled. I think you may be right, @Mad-Hatter .
I could probably sort of live with that, except that it has been my intention to place multiple comm balls to form a longer message, such as a line from a poem or song. I think I need to investigate the message gizmo that is a base part. Maybe it will let me do what I want, albeit only where I have placed a base.
Have they disappeared from their location or just no icon pointing to them? I never seem to get an icon for the ones I place in case this is what you were experiencing.
That would definitely be a more permanent solution though I think there are limitations to bases too. Only one base per planet will appear, whichever was the last uploaded. So if you stick to one per planet the message will be readable to others.
If itās only for you to see and read then the base limit restriction above need not apply.
The only restriction youād have there is the save wide item limit shared across all built bases. Youāll hardly hit that with just message modules but if you already have a lot of bases you may need to remove some seating from old ones
There is definitely some form of instancing (limited number of players per universe version) going on. As @Mad-Hatter points out, if you visit a popular destination, you will see comm balls - but you never see hundreds - more like 20 or 30. But there must be thousands of players leaving the things. Also pointed out by @Mad-Hatter, if you go back to the same destination later, there will still be comm balls, but they will be different ones.
Back in the days of fixed location bases, I tried to use a trail of comm balls to guide visitors along a path to a nearby portal. It ended up being very frustrating - the game would allow me to compose and place each comm ball along the way - but it didnāt tell me that every time I placed a new one, it was silently deleting my previous one.
I did once manage to write a short poem in a way that was more or less permanent, and available for everyone to see - I found a previously undiscovered system with lots of planets, and made each planetās name a line of the poem. Itās possibly still out there somewhere. You need to choose (or write) your poem carefully - you only get so many characters for a planet name.
