ETARC/ Hub Discussion started July 17, 2018

@toddumptious has already proposed that discussion, over in the “Our History” thread.

Although it might be possible to save the Firefly Chain. It’s early days yet.

These are the remains of the ETARC Hub Base. All that’s left are the comm balls, floating in space. It’s a bit like an encounter with Wheatley.

This actually looks great in a weird sort of way… I hope Hello Games create some archeology missions that makes you visit places such as this one… quite fascinating!

@sheralmyst and fellow Etarcian’s: Considering this topic was only recently created and still receives active discussion, I have moved it out of the archive, to the new No Man’s Sky category.

I have been thinking about heading towards the Etarc Hub area, Is there a portal address over there I can head to or has it changed with the new update?

I’m going to wait to rebuild my base once I get over there. There can be more than one base per planet now right? So would it be good to put our bases in one place so we can harvest each others crops and make money? Or is that a “no go” still?

Is there a naming conventions for planets over there?

I would wait a while if I were you. The old portal has gone, along with the planet it was on. The capital base has disappeared, and the planet it stood on has changed beyond recognition.

The ETARC Hub is a mess right now.

Im on PC and started with my old save, spawned in the local space station of the system I was in. But all has changed, planet names etc. Thinking about creating another base in the same system. I can still see some claimed bases in the chain, but havent traveled there yet. I have started a new game save just to go through the learning process, especially the new refining. Ill be watching this thread for news of a possible move.
I didnt have the patience to wait to download like I thought I was going to.
I had a lousy wifi connection and that took 15 hours to download this update.

Etarcians are a resilient group. They’ll rebuild. Once we figure out how Next works.

This same thing happened to the Galactic Hub with Atlas Rises.
I’m thinking to head towards the outer regions and hunt for a new star chain. Leave the firefly chain to the masses and find a new location.
Do old portals still work? I have an address I could relocate to but I don’t know how the portal relocation trick works now with multiple base options. I might ask this very question in the new HAFT catagory.

The problem with portals is some of the planets they were on no longer exist… :scream:

When you say no longer exist…do you mean gone or just altered? Can tou still access them and then build a new base and relocate?

I found a nice star chain right in the center of Euclid. Its almost directly on top of the center (on a z-axis). The chain points right to the center of the galaxy and has a black hole system at one end. I was just there the day before NEXT, and none of the systems had been claimed! I haven’t loaded that save up yet (started a new game to learn the new system and wait for the bugs to get squished), so I’ll have to see what state it is in now, but could be promising.

The Base Reset part could have been handled differently.

If they would have lets us know before hand that you would want to be in the system then at least it could have kept the system name.

Currently I am stuck with my capital freighter having my base icon, so everytime I scan for a place to setup my base, I can’t find where it scanned.

BUT two updates, and two of the other bugs I have been having squashed. Pretty amazing they are doing daily updates to clean up the major issues(at least for the PC users)

I just wish we could get some clarification on the status of online discovery services.

They were understandably finnicy on the lead up to NEXT and then the weekend before release, down entirely.

They’ve remained this way more or less since NEXT arrived and I have to wonder how much of the loss of original names is to do with lack of online discovery being active.

Sometimes my old home system in ETARC hub has the name I gave it, sometimes it doesn’t. I dunno if that’s due to reverting to local caching on my system or if its from a freak moment where I gained access to online discoveries.

It’s also causing mayhem on new discoveries for multiplayer. We can visit a system, one of us could name its planets or creatures but the others will never see the names and they can name them all themselves and then its a roll of the dice, whoever gets that slivering moment of connectivity while saving the game will claim the name and discovery, and only sometimes will you see that it’s been discovered, other times it reverts to as if nobodies been there again.

This has been my single major gripe as its made the joy of discovering with friends and seeing what they’ve found while you were away completely mute.

It’s for this reason I’ve stopped naming and uploading discoveries, waiting to see what happens with this. Keeping away from star chain too until all systems nominal.

Like, how does it work exactly when four friends have claimed the same discoveries on their local cache. When it uploads does it overwrite indiscriminately or does it check to see who has the oldest timestamp on their system and only replace it then?

I’d love some clarification on the online discoveries issue from HG, why it’s been down and when it will be functioning properly and how uploaded data is collated, first come first served or is it a timestamp thing?

Fortunately Uploading bases bypasses the online discovery system so getting our bases stored is easy, but random people in your party don’t see them unless their online discovery service is active. I also suspect the lobbies are peer to peer so that’s why that functions fine without services active.

OK, you bait a Star Wars geek, you get a Star Wars Geek. :+1:

A Long Time Ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away . . .

. . . there was – was – a planet named “Alderaan”,
the second rock from the Alderaanian central star,
a verdant, Lush, mountainous blue-green marble,
whose name rather befuddled quite a lot of folks.
See, the first syllable is indeed pronounced ‘ALL’,
though its name is spelled with only a single L

(The rest of the 'Opening Crawl' text..)

Last Governed by the Reigning Monarchy, the
Organa Royal House ruled with compassion,
its people happy, pacifist, & hard-working.
After The Disaster (as it became known),
when the Empire’s Death Star weapon
destroyed it, its remains are now the
“Alderaan graveyard”; its people
remembered for: architectural
beauty; Aldera University;
the Alderaan Wolf-Cat;
in its emerald wine;
& Princess Leia
Alderaan, RiP.

[Cut closer to reveal beautifully-designed stationary satellite, self-lit.]
[Audio fade-in: old style morse code: “Alderaan wishes you Peace”, as]

Plaque detail

“Powered by our Alderaanian sunstar, this Perennial Memorial Buoy
stands to commemorate the loss of the once great home of our people,
and to serve as a stark reminder of the horrid atrocities of the Empire.
With the sad loss in recent years of one of our most inspiring leaders,
Princess Leia Organa, the Alderaanian Council commissioned designers
& architects, from the refugees & citizens across the galaxy, to come
together in the creation of this Memorial you see here before you now.
The asteroid field which was Alderaan has dispersed widely during the
intervening years since its first appearance; still, journey safely home.
We, the People of Alderaan, wish you Peace, Harmony, & Tranquility.

I’ll be loading up all my discoveries at the end of the year, when GoG enables multiplayer.
