All my frigates on my legacy save are the same ones I picked up when they were added to the game. Was that 2018? Or 2019?
I had to let a few go to make room for raiders and organics as they were introduced but I think it was mostly the support frigates I gave severance packages to.
The names are usually based off one of the descriptors for the crew/ship, the captain’s name or whatever the original name makes pop into my head.
Knowing this, I still can’t tell you why I have a combat frigate called iCarly. I’ve never even seen the show.
Trying to figure out why I named my frigates the way I named them sixish years ago seems like a good way to pass the time.
I actually hit a progress blocker with one of the emergency frigate response missions today.
It was for an exploration fleet mission, they wanted me to warp in and help translate. Cool, no problem.
When I arrive, it’s the doomed vessel, and an organic vessel. Neither of which you can land on, thus making it impossible to make contact. The mission guidance was showing that the organic frigate was the intended target.
There was also an exploration frigate with the team that I could land on. This actually initiated the mission conversation but led to no continuation, I was able to re-land multiple times and pick a different option each time. I tried warping to a few different systems and doing different things but they stayed locked there. I had to remove the fleet request mission from my log to bring them home.
This seems like it could be a common enough occurrence for players, and something that could be fixed easily by just allowing fleet frequency contact with frigates you cannot land on.
In the map, the descriptor of a gas giant says “Gas Giant” - so they’re easy.
If you left-click once on the map image of a star, it opens up a little graphic showing planets and moons. A giant planet is always a single, very large planet, usually with a number of moons.
If you find a purple system with a single large planet surrounded by moons, and it doesn’t say “Gas Giant”, then it’s a non-gas giant. I’ve found dozens. Roughly one in six purple systems is a giant, and roughly half of those are non-gas giants.
Sometimes a large planet with two moons can fool me and I warp in.
I’ve been naming those systems “Faux Titan I” etc
I also found a cluster of four non gas giants just kinda out on their own between two large regions of stars.
I was on the lookout for outlaw stations yesterday as I needed to find the counterfeit circuits to build the cargo deflector on a new ship.
I didn’t find one with circuits until the fourth outlaw station , and I don’t know if it was just pure luck, or if it’s a higher likelihood,
but all of the purple outlaw stations I landed on in the galactic map were non-gas titans.
I’ve definitely seen an even amount of regular outlaw purple systems and gas giants too so might have just been a lucky string but if not, it could aid with finding non-gas giants.
Typical tower with two habitation modules, but no smoking capsule of ‘damaged machinery.’ They are so universal in the two habitation modules placement that I could have put an X where it ‘belongs,’ but it isn’t there. I also at this point could dig between the two modules at the spot where there is always a buried tech module…and it isn’t there either.
I noticed this a few days ago and thought, “well, sometimes they aren’t there.” That was true, once in a great while I would land somewhere and they would be missing. But I am pretty sure that I haven’t seen a single one since. I mean, they are scattered in the wild, of course, but the usual spot by the shelters is apparently no longer part of the distribution.
I’ve seen that recently, but it didn’t surprise me. I think I’ve seen that before. Not common, but not unheard of…I think. I also, as I said, have seen the two prefabs without the machinery/buried tech, but it was rare. Now it has to be something like twenty in a row, so I am sure it was changed.
I’ve had my suspicions purple systems will be updated with new POI’s (maybe even yrgb too) with the years updates, so I imagine some instances of the original POI’s will be replaced. The weird nature of how some of these are spawning rare layouts of buildings is just adding more fuel to that imagineering.
Just a theory (not a game theory, dislike and unsubscribe )
I like this theory. With so much variety now, it is time for POIs to recieve a variety upgrade of their own.
With the addition of the ruined building pieces, I would like to see some POIs using them, especially the dig sites
I have built with them. They are easily resized but the way they make contact with the terrain makes it impossible to resize and line up correctly. I have managed a few times but fairly level ground is required. However, POIs are on level ground. I think it could work.
There’s nothing wrong with building out of Lego AND Duplo even if the other kids will make fun of you for not getting Lego Technic.
I dunno if Duplo exists outside of Europe so here’s a picture for the international audience. It’s basically Lego your toddler can’t choke on (as easily, kids love a challenge)
Beeblebum put out a video a little while ago experimenting with the new pieces, he managed to figure out how many fence pieces you need to stack to get the placement point of the new pieces to line up with floors and items as flush as you can get them. Does require using some basic glitch building like switching to wire placement and back, or one of those weird moves where the object yr looking ats point becomes the point of the item you switch to… The video explains/demonstrates it better
It wasn’t one of his tutorial vids, it was a brief demonstration during a live stream, I’m sure he’ll make an associated tutorial on them eventually but if you scrub through this stream, you will eventually see him messing around in the sky with piece placement and experimenting.
I was running a Nexus mission to attack a supply depot and stopped at a nearby facility to see if there were any changes. There are.
I kicked the door in and found that it did not blow apart as in times past. It was left in an open position
This directly conflicts with my ‘stand in the doorway to avoid fire’ method of fighting. It still works. Just not as well. I had to step outside more than I had to before. I suspect that is a deliberate change.
Another fun little change at this Observatory.
The first locked door required a Lv1 Atlas Pass. The second locked door required a Lv2 Atlas Pass. Since I had to pass thru the first to get to the second, this is a nice change. I like it though it matters little now, it would be fun when first starting out and having only the Lv 1 Atlas Pass on me
