Given the amount of time and work that went into the last update and subsequent patches, I’d think it may be a few months before any future updates.
HG were still advertising for artists in late September. Assuming that’s for NMS, it seems unlikely that they’ve finished whatever they had in mind yet.
Any ideas when the next update will hit??
Lots of ideas…zero confirmations.
When it comes, it comes.
I’d prefer to wait than wade through tons of potential bugs. (Doesn’t stop me religiously checking for updates though)
No kidding! It seems to be a favorite past time anymore! (Open Google, Type in No Man’s Sky update 1.4 hit Enter)
most i ignore, been watching, waiting, the above was intresting, tis why I posted it
I just watched the video that you posted. Thanks for posting it. I didn’t even notice it when I posted the first question.
Some of the new Exotics remind me of Vorlon ships (in Babylon 5 TV series). Organic would be nice.
At the end of the Atlas Rises trailer the voice does say, “…and much more will follow.”
So it looks like they’re working on more stuff, it’s just a matter of when.
When they will work on it???
or
When they will reveal their workk???
They’ve probably been working on it for months, but when will they reveal their work?
I’m guessing we’ll hear something in February maybe? Just a guess tho
Perhaps a peep on the 30th when many players will be on for various in-game celebrations?
I’m playing PS4, version 1.38 and I am about 240 hours in to the game. Currently in Eissentam, about half way in to the centre. My wish list is all about procedural generation. I would love to see the universe re-seeded after a major update to include the following - conflict across whatever galaxy you are in to be PG’d. As with economy. Factions and conflict could develop over time. Now I’m not really up on PG, I know a bit as a layman, but my main point is this - the more PG there is in the game, the more chance we have of finding truly spectacular star systems, with real, developing conflict and a dynamic realtime economy. Is this possible? Maybe. I understand that the parameters for the game were strictly limited as far a PG goes to prevent gameplay problems, but I would be able to deal with the odd hiccup if we could see nebulae, comets, and all the real strange phenomena that we see in the real night sky. It would be really cool also to just let the PG run wild on a planet to see what kinds of life can develop. Instead of saying an animal can have between say 2 and 8 legs, why limit the amount at all? Nature certainly doesn’t and isn’t that what we are trying to simulate here? Just a thought…
Hello Games is constantly working. But Sean Murray (and perhaps Grant) really don’t like “giving away” what’s coming. He wants it to be a surprise. So they say very little until it’s nearly release time (whenever that is). Don’t stress. Meanwhile… Explore; Trade; Fight; Survive.
Emily is the enemy!!!
It’s so quiet… I can’t stand being without any news from HG.
No Pass V4, no messages, no updates, not even a single hello…
What is happening guys?
Just the usual
Staying silent to give us the gift of anticipation, just don’t ruin it with expectation
Thats my NMS development mantra and it’s a good rule of thumb for any and all forms of entertainment and art. Recent example, I saw the new Star Wars movie having avoided all trailers, interviews, advertisements, discussions etc etc for the last two years. Loved it. Watched the trailer afterwards and couldnt help but think it would have left me expecting a very different movie with a very different focus.
It’s something I always wanted to try and do and I have my previous house mate to thank for giving me that discipline. “Hey have you seen the new fallout 4 trailer for -” " NOOOO SHUDDUP GET OUT FUNK OFF! " "i was just gonna say theres this bit I know you’ll lo- " “LA LA LA I CANT HEAR YOU!”
Something to that effect
As I’ve stated before, no man’s sky needs taller trees and denser forests. I’m no programmer, but I’m assuming that both of these tasks could be accomplished with a slight alteration or addition to the the planet generation code, and that they could be in the next update, as a minor, yet impactful feature. Looking further down the road, I hope to see more biome diversity, because right now, the exploration aspect of the game is lacking.
Right now, the game has:
Lush Planets
Desert Planets
Cold Planets
Hot Planets
Toxic Planets
Radioactive Planets
Barren Planets
Exotic Planets
I think significant biome variations should be the next step for no man’s sky (after 1.4/1.5). By this I mean, instead of the aforementioned planet classes containing only one type of planet, they would contain multiple.
*Default planet classes remain the same as they are now, except with taller/denser trees
Class #1: Lush
Default
Jungle (much taller, denser forests)
Grasslands (no trees)
Swamp (lots of water, willow like trees)
Class #2: Desert
Default
Sandy (lots of sand)
Rocky (lots of rocks, lack of plants)
Class #3: Cold
Default
Barren, snowy (no trees, just powdery snow)
Barren, icy (no trees, just ice fields)
Tundra (similar to ‘default’, just with no/little snow)
Class #4: Hot
Default
Lava (black rocky surface with lava rivers)
Plasma (fire plumes)
Class #5: Toxic
Default
Luminescent (glowing mushrooms)
Class #6: Radioactive
Default
Wasteland (instead of flora, have tall rocks)
Class #7: Barren
Default
(see paragraph below)
Class #8: Exotic
Fantastic job with these, no more classes necessary, but are always welcome
With barren/low atmosphere planets, no creativity needed. Our solar system has so many very unique looking “barren” planets and moons, all that would need to be done is to ‘copy and paste’ the existing bodies into the game.
In my opinion, for hello games to implement these features into the game effectively, they would also have to change the procedural generation system to generate continents (instead of islands) on planets with water. With the addition of the continent generation system, HG could add a mini mapping system, and other features I’m to tired to come up with at the moment.
In conclusion, I enjoy the state of the game at the moment, but I bought no man’s sky to discover strange new worlds, and to seek out new life, and new civilizations, but at the moment, these are relatively boring and very repetitive tasks, that I hope will be be more fleshed out in the future.
