Weekend Event

Yeah I also wondered if the biological horrors were part of the story, in that they were coming through the Rift, which needs repairing…

Can I just say that I have found it rather confusing when people have combined discussion of the weekend and community missions? They’re separate events, with different rules and outcomes.

If people are confusing the two, surely that’s all the more reason to keep the discussions apart? Otherwise, dumb people like me will get even more confused.:upside_down_face:

To me, there are daily missions, a Daily Quicksilver mission and a Weekend Quicksilver mission.

Both Nexus missions give QS but, one can be done once a day ( community mission) and the other can be done once per weekend and is supposed to lead to more lore. Then there is the rare purple colored mission which I believe is basically a daily mission…

If Hello Games refuses to limit or somehow make griefing much less attractive to “those people,” maybe a new role that people could join could be Traveler Protection Force (TPF) with heavy armor, beefed up weapons, starships, and vehicles. Members could “patrol” and get online chats about criminals ('cause that’s what they are) and locations.

I’d greatly prefer HG to whack those moles down, though.

Feels like HG have done all they can about griefing, short of banning people. The options menu is well-equipped as I see it.

Yes. Tweek your options. People will be people. Protect yourself.

my own personal take on the problem, to paraphrase a well-known infomercial: “Kids, just say NO to Multiplayer.”

:innocent:

LOL. I do keep all multiplayer (and griefing effects) options OFF, though I notice that each major update reverts to ON. Grr.

I have not experienced it, but do massive terrain edits affect other players or not? Hello Games had originally said they would.

There is a bullet point in the synthesis update notes that hints that terrain edits can/do affect other players.

Terrain edited around key community goals can now be undone by any player.

I haven’t see anything that indicates that it would affect your build limits (unless you allow them to edit your base).

I was recalling comments by others that miscreants had dug out around a portal and caused folks to fall as they exited the portal. That’s then something you cannot avoid and amounts to griefing even players who have all multiplayer options OFF, right?

I think it might be fun if NMS treated this like friendly NPC’s. If you accidentally or deliberately fire upon another player you immediately become a valid target for any / all regardless of network setting without changing the settings of the other players in that session. That would put an end to this.

This is very peculiar.

I’ve travelled to this week’s destination planet “Bizarro Says Hi” several times, mostly looking for evidence of monstrosities (didn’t find any).

I did, however, find that someone had built a dome around the portal. However, the next time I visited, the dome was gone. Then it came back, and then it disappeared again.

The last time I visited, it was back again. Most curious.

Now you see it…

Now you don’t…

Now you see some of it…

Then it’s all there…

And now it’s gone again…

It;s all very confusing.
Thanks to the traveller who messaged in text chat asking if anyone had found humming sacs, as i came through the portal.

I went into the cave system at the portal site to gather, then when on to the breach marker. Only to find i had overcollected by almost triple. So as soon as hand in completed, i gifted the rest to the nearest traveller /XTE.

Works for me, rapid in and out, and some charity thrown in.
I was there as the dome started to materialize. Had to run inside the dome to avoid getting locked out although, as it turns out, it never completely finished rendering.

The shape of the dome looks like one of the standard shapes from the Blender plug-in. Maybe making bases via Blender bypasses the “no uploadable bases near the portal” rule.

I was late to the weekend mission. It was a horrific mess. When I exited the portal, I was greeted by a ton of ships and some guy trying to TM a dome over the portal.

Looking at the chat box on screen, I noticed I was in a server full of Russian-speakers. As I neared the Plaque, I was greeted with massive holes in the ground, making it difficult to reach the Plaque. The other players seemed to be methodically making as big a mess as possible.
I promptly Disabled Multiplayer.
I was then able to fly far from the Plaque and begin a search for Albumen Pearls. All Humming Sacs near the Plaque were empty.
There are some wonderful caves to be found on this planet, if you can find them through the almost constant storms.

I had huge issues with terrain generation. I assume this is because so much TM has been done on this planet.

I finally found all the pearls needed.
When I returned to the Portal, I tore down all the TM at the Portal and then turned Multiplayer back on and then stepped back through the Portal, glad to put that experience behind me.

You can do a lot with Blender and other tools, but you would still have to enter the game to access your Base Computer to upload a base once you have built it. Speaking from my own experience, with a base near a portal, the computer allowed me to upload even though it was about 250u from a portal. It actually allowed me to put down a base computer quite close to begin with. If HG wishes to prevent bases from uploading that close, then why can we place a Base Computer that close and have the option to upload available? Makes no sense to me, and I wasn’t made aware of any such restriction in-game. Sure there are other tricks to move a base close though, but it makes me wonder about checks done, if any.

My observations with the biological horrors continued with the same pattern:

 • All mutliplayer missions will had attacks; solo missions did not
 • The attacks occurred either at the portal or at the destination.
 • The kill count did not reduce consistently (remained at 6 after several kills.)

However, something new happened during our first multiplayer mission. A corrupted sentinel (just 1) attacked instead of a monstrosity swarm.

This is happening in the weekend event, marked with a blue icon at the Nexus, or was it in a community mission, marked with a yellow QS icon at the Nexus?
