Week of June 1st - Loop16 Seq25 + Satcom Calibration COMPLETE

I guess we’ll have more clues during today.
Either that or they’ll leave us in the dark 'till 10/06

If everything keeps going the way it is, here is my predictions of the time at which each sound file will be live.

Could it be a space whale!? can anyone remember what they did in Star Trek the voyage home, when they encountered a probe that was transmitting whale song? Only it didn’t sound like whale song to start with they had to do something to it…that’s got to be it…right??

Or something like this…maybe

No, Groom Lake/Area 51 is way to the south of the center of that spiral. Area 51 is NNE of Crystal Springs and SSE of Rachel…which is way down North of Las Vegas.

The center of that spiral is south of the Battle Mountain Airport. I have a friend (I really do!) who has lived in Battle Mountain for 20+ years. It looks like that point lies in the ranch dirt roads so finding it would be hard if it were on private ranch property.

DAMN BOI
Good job

@Kurv that’s really impressive! I always had a feeling that it also matters from where the signal is sent (i.e. in the proximity of which W/ARE research centre), but don’t hold me accountable on that one…

Are you sure you’re getting these numbers for the bangs? Most people seem to agree that we only have two patterns; the 2111 and the 1312131 plus the last Fibonacci one… and people have been listening very hard… I think I need a better listen myself now :stuck_out_tongue:

I used those same patterns. I just changed where the starting point for those patterns are based on where the blip/cut out was, and used the blip as the starting point for the loop. I was thinking about how to approach the puzzle if someone was only listening and could not see where the sound file starts.

There are only four basic sound files. Discounting the “no signal” one, and the Fibonacci one, there are just two.

It’s easy to prove. If you take any two of the 2 1 1 1 files, or any two of the 1 3 1 2 1 3 1 files, paste them into Audacity, invert one, then mix them, you will find that they cancel each other perfectly. This can only happen if the files are identical.

There are minor differences, but these are entirely due to the moving blank space, or “countdown bar”. Other wise, the files are exactly the same.

I know people have said they can hear differences between them, but they’re imagining it. There are no differences.

That’s not what he’s saying though. He wrote down the pattern each of them would have if you cut it apart at the blank, put it back together with the blank at the beginning, and then looped it.
Which begs the question, are they seemlessly loopable that way? Because that would make two extraordinary coincidences. One that they’re loopable, and two that if you overlay them at the blank, the end result has the exact same length as the fibonacci sound. Two extraordinary coincidences usually aren’t coincidences in this game…

I’m working on schoolwork and don’t have time to test this right now, but maybe we can overlay certain tracks on the blips so that the thumps make the same sequence as the Fibonacci one?

Another thing that points to the idea that the files are meant to be played on a loop is, the second of the two patterns ( 1 3 1 2 1 3 1) ends without the last bang dying down. It’s as if the last bang is meant to be counted in a group with the first bang. I don’t know where the starting point of the loop should be, but I think the pattern may be meant to be 3 1 2 1 3 2. Depending on where you start it could be 1 2 1 3 2 3 or 2 1 3 2 3 1 and so on. All the same pattern. Just another way to approach it.

My ears are shot from playing in a metal band in high school but some of the bangs that are counted as 1 in the patterns could be 2s to me. I am trusting what you all said the patterns were there.

The 1312131 sound file is of 27.665 seconds duration
The 2111 sound file is of 27.665 seconds duration
The Fibonacci file is of 51.6 seconds duration
The No Signal file is of 46.51 seconds duration

The blank space that moves through the files is of approximately 0.1 seconds duration

In the originally transmitted files, the blank space started out at the end of the file (right hand side of the spectrograph). With each subsequent file transmitted, the blank space moved one second towards the beginning of the file. When the blank space reached the start of the file, the Fibonacci file was transmitted.

This means that the blank space appears in 25 different positions in the files.

In order to successfully loop a file, at least in the audio sense, the wave forms at the two ends of the loop have to match. If they don’t, you will hear an audible click or discontinuity in the sound. Making decent loops is quite an art, and requires great precision.

The 1312131 and 2111 files, at 27.665 seconds, are not obvious multiples of the Fibonacci file (51.6 seconds). To increase their length to match, you have to multiply them by around 1.86. Now if that had been 1.618, that would have been interesting. But it’s not.

Maybe the passcode is hidden in the filenames then.

Lots of people have thought so. Nobody’s managed to decrypt anything yet, though.

I don’t suppose the code could show up at the Xbox thing Sunday at E3? Wouldn’t be the strangest thing ever. Or maybe we will get a further clue in an e-mail or something at that time.

I suspect we will be subtly nudged in the right direction. Someone we’ve never heard of will post an “idea” on Reddit.
