Update Discussion Thread

Is it still possible to buy atlas stone after handing them over to the atlas interface? I can’t say as I’ve seen one for sale

Well, terminus work this way right now…
We can’t go to one space station we have never been.

I’ve seen a few for a high 2 mil from different traders and terminals

Wow that’s one expensive piece of candy! lol

Yeah, those were my points exactly… Although the destination’s code is most likely known, so it can be dialed… And maybe soon traced with a second app to know where it goes beforehand.

Yeah maybe the destination coordinates are obtained at abandoned building/observatory

Why would it not make sense?
Over time we could create a huge network of portals and everyone could share their coordinates/ codes if this becomes a thing.
this is just a theory but I like the idea.
We would have to work together as a commuity just like we did with WT.

But I also think being able to go anywhere should come with some limitations.

I don’t believe it’ll be so “easy” I dont forget the last part of the “portal” command in WT terminal:
"Traveller could perceive the portal, though they did not know how to step through. They did not know the secret language, the glyphs. They did not yet grasp the price of the final truth. "

Once we’ll be able to understand how the glyphs work, we’ll have access to the “final truth”, not only basics transportations points. And there will be a price for the travelers who will access to this final truth. Or the final truth is the price of course.

Anyway, i believe that portals link to “another world” (Glass command:“There is a world beneath all of this, a world of – zzktt – glass – kkttzztt…”) where we should meet Artemis.

I think you may be right, but I don’t think you just type in any coords and you travel to the world of glass. Finding the correct coords will be the key, but then again this is all speculation. Just don’t be discouraged if you end up on a random planet in the universe on your first attempt. Keep your eyes open, there is most likely a bit more to these portals then was released in SM’s email.

Of course. If it was only “stargates”, it’s a very long time they would be activated

Not if they’ve been buried

Pure speculation, but if you needed to “manually” open both sides, or someone on the other side to do it for you… Well, that would be a multiplayer mindset kind of deal, since it would take way longer to first travel by conventional means to your destination… (opposite side of the galaxy?) to… leave some sort of bridge open? It would lock that route between those two destinations, and all you would get would be a shortcut that could have been accessed way easier and faster by setting two Terminus destinations.

Just my two cents…

That sounds to me like a valid explanation for the inactive portals v1.1-v1.2 The glass world part to me, sounds like the space-stations, keeping some plot-twist inside, but could be indeed something new and unexpected.

Waiting for those patch notes & the update makes me feel like a kid before Christmas again.
Except as a kid I knew the exact point in time to look forward to.
I’m 46 now. Can’t believe this is happening to me, but thanks a lot to HG for making me feel like a 7 year old

Bit of a late reply but…
In regards to pirates attackng your freighter, I returned to my newly equipped bigger and better freighter yesterday to find a pack of pirates shooting its pods off!
I swapped ships to my ‘tough’ little beast and took them out.
Several pods were damaged and the contents gone but no personally collected cargo in storage was effected. The pods were automatically fixed the next time I warped to a new system and summoned the freighter. So it does happen.

Cool! Glad to know it is a possibility at least! I think it could be expanded upon, of course. Make it more common depending on the cargo you have, etc., and maybe receive a notification similar to when other freighters are under attack. But still, now I’m going to look forward to getting attacked.

I still want the option to use my spare ships as wingmen, too. Ahhh, the possibilities before a new update drops.

This is probably not much to do with atlas rising but it would be cool if you could build planet bases down, like have some levels below groun aswell.

@MrMcdillard
Just a little question about the freighters…
What happends if you refuse the reward he gives to you for defending them? Honestly I never refused one! haha
Sales the cargo cheaper maybe?

If you refuse the reward nothing special really happens. There are 2 ways this can go down.

  1. He offers you a weapon, and you decline the weapon.
In this case, you will still receive the other rewards such as anti-matter or warp cells.

  2. You refuse the supplies BEFORE any offer is made for a weapon. In this case you get NO rewards, but you can still trade with the captain and purchase his ship.

I think portals will play a part of the new storyline. I’m also leaning towards getting to the centre no longer being the main objective.
Firstly, because depending on how portals work it may become a case where getting to the centre becomes as simple as knowing the co-ordinates.
Secondly, based on this text from WT:
"Glitches, Nada had called them. Aberrations,
increasing in frequency the closer one moved
toward the centre.

But Artemis had no wish to go there. They were
looking for something."

Makes me think the new story will take us more around the universe than to the centre of it.
