Tips & Tricks

@sheralmyst Ummm. Hmmm. Well … It’s possible, but I’d better not explain it

Lol, I was puzzled by that at first too. Though I did try just walking into it a bit sooner.

I hate to say this because the insta-teleport is kinda cool, but it might be better if it had a very slight delay. It is a bit jarring right now… could perhaps use a fancy little screen effect. It might also be safer to give it a brief moment to fully generate the terrain directly beneath the exit point first.

Does anyone know how advanced the teleport cables are in the experimental branch? Can they be connected to switches? I recall someone previously trying, unsuccessfully, to create a teleporter with a switchable destination (maybe jc hysteria or boid gaming?).

Yeah, that would absolutely be better. “Instaport” doesn’t give my brain time to realise something changed.

Photo Quests Tip:

THIS is the kind of portal the “Take a picture of a Portal” quests want:

I’m such a dork. :stuck_out_tongue:

I tried my base portal, station portals, even short range Instaportals. finally found this one that was accepted.

What I’ve done is wire up a coloured lightbulb with a slightly different placement, at about eye level on each of my teleporters: (ie blue vertical bulb on left VS pink horizontal bulb on right). This way you see the transition.

My first set up was in a base, with each end in a default coloured cuboid room. I had no idea if I’d teleported or not

For as far as I know, the actual advanced teleport cables are still broken and actually not even needed for these portals to function. All they appear to require is power for them to work. I could be mistaken though, as I do not play experimental myself.

I personally prefer the way a base terminus functions, although only one per base is allowed, without cheating. At least they have interaction first before being moved elsewhere, including the visual effects.

Oh, and yes it would be cool if you could use logic on them, once HG got them fully sorted.

Need help: not getting quicksliver missions at all.

I have now completed over twenty quests for the nexus and not a single QS mission has been offered.

I’ve even turned on multiplayer and have only been offered non-qs ones.

Am I supposed to finish the main storyline or something before they are offered? I have just gotten “The Purge”.

Does the oRaNGe hate me? :large_orange_diamond::large_orange_diamond::large_orange_diamond:

Does my character have halitosis or body odor? Wait that last one --uhhh … :cold_sweat:

Seriously, though. What gives here? To whom must I genuflect?

(also Mal isn’t getting any QS quests either)

It’s not necessary to complete any standard Nexus missions at all.
It’s not necessary to complete any of the other quests, main or otherwise.
The quicksilver quests should appear with multiplayer both on and off.
All players should get a new quicksilver quest every day.

BUT - the quicksilver quests arrived with an update a couple of weeks ago. It sounds like you either didn’t get it, it’s not installed correctly, or it’s buggy for you. Do you have anything unusual about your setup? Are you using GoG, Linux, or mods?

No, no, and no. And that goes for both myself and Mal.

Now I’m wondering if I should do a reinstall or first, have Steam check the files.

Thank you for the advice.

I assume you are connected to the internet? Steam is not in offline mode? That is the only thing I can think of.

I would certainly have Steam check the files, before I did anything drastic.

Yes, and, correct. (Good questions!) I double checked the “offline mode”. I have only ever gone offline with Steam once ages ago and our question made wonder if it got stuck somehow, but yes I’m online apparently.

Also, this had been going on for --what? Weeks?

@Polyphemus, Good advice. I tend to err on the side of caution in all things --at least in the decades since I turned fifty thirty-nine.

Steam checked the files and verified them. Apparently they check out fine.

:puzzled:

Ha ha. I know the feeling. I’ve been thirty-nine for the past twenty-six years.

In the Properties panel of NMS.exe it states that the file was both accessed and modified last on ‎Wednesday, ‎September ‎18, ‎2019, ‏‎9:21:43 AM.

Does that check out with anyone’s Steam/PC/Non-3xperimental/non-VR version?

Then I won’t ask you how old you were before you turned 39. :innocent:

Ha! I am smarter than both of you. I stopped at 37.

I am in Steam Beta so I cannot answer but I have had some weird connection issues lately.
