The Swarm Expedition 22

Sages, Royals, and Weavers are all competing to have the Prismatic Core be their color at the end of the Expedition. The sabotage mission is purely for helping your team complete most of the Prismatic Core and “win”.

So far it seems the “damage” caused to the core’s progress by Sabotage missions isn’t significant enough to prevent timely completion of the core.

Ah, thank you. I get it now.

HG announced the team with the most points would win some recognition, to make the event a bit competitive. Or maybe as a social experiment? :slightly_smiling_face: If you can pick 0-3 out of: “benefit yourself, benefit everyone, hamper the others”, what do you choose?

Is your (character’s) personal goal for the expedition target to be completed fastest? Or is it for your (randomly assigned!) team to “win”? Or do you enjoy seeing the other (equally randomly assigned!) teams “lose”? Depending on that, you choose your mix of 0-3 options.

(E.g. I chose none of the above today since I was lazy. The previous days I chose the two positive actions to speed up this slug–slog?) :face_with_tongue:

According to some theory, there are different player types, competitive, collaborative, solo, social (and maybe something other I’m forgetting). Competitive enjoys being better than others, collaborative is satisfied with reaching the common goal, solo wants to beat the game dev  , and social are the ones of your friends who couldn’t care less about the game but who still join just to chat and hang out and decorate the base and hand out digital cookies.

Oh yeah, sitting at the Nexus handing out cookies is our fourth option in the expedition, let’s not forget!

There’s some strategy here :

  • +3 purge
  • -1/-1 sabotage
  • +2/+2/+2 restore

So basically if you want your team to win without helping the slightest the others, purge and sabotage

If you want to accelerate progression overall, all 3

If you want your team fail, do nothing.

I can’t see a way to promote either other teams.

There a choice less talked when we severe the swarm connection

  1. I don’t recall first one
  2. 1 microprocessor
  3. 300 silicates

Maybe there are some hidden implications here.

That said, go team sage!

Help me out a little here, folks.

When I first started the expedition, I found that while trying to dismantle the swarmer, I was being attacked by swarms of 10 drones, who would all shoot at me at the same time. Those I killed would be replaced by more, and the swarm would never subside This made them practically unbeatable, and my progress stalled.

Then HG implemented a fix, and I find I now only get jumped by groups of five, and of the five, only one will shoot at me at a time - not all of them together. When I kill one, it doesn’t get replaced. So if I kill all five, II have a clear, uninterrupted run at the swarmer. I think this is how it was supposed to be.

My progress in the expedition is now several days behind everyone else’s, and I find myself four or five milestones from the end, having to repeat the same damned missions again, and again, and again. I can’t progress until I’ve completed these missions, but no matter how many I finish, it keeps sending me back to do more. I can’t complete the milestone, and without it, I can’t progress to the last few.

“Milestones can be completed in any order” seems to be a lie.

Is this another bug, or is everyone in the same bind?

I would agree.

Interface requires Prismatic Core, which come from Countermeasures.

Glass to Glass requires Prismatic Core.

Chromatic Distortion requires Glass to Glass.

Countermeasures requires Purge and/or Restore and/or Sabotage.

Yes, but is it possible to complete countermeasures? I can’t close out the milestone, and without it, I can’t progress. It keeps requiring me to do more missions - is this a bug, or is it intentional?

I think that it’s intentional.

The Prismatic Core, currently at 15%, won’t be completed until it reaches 100% then Countermeasures should be satisfied. In the meantime in order to advance the percentage we’re in a loop of Purge/Restore/Sabotage.

I can usually do all three unless Sweeper is there. That will not work for me so I don’t do it.

The remaining milestones (once you’ve completed the 3 mission types) seem to be intentionally timegated by the prismatic core, yes.

The main focus is the community goal at this time.

I see. Thank you.

The first time I did the three mission types was amusing. After completing them all five times, it was getting a bit samey. I’ve now lost count of how many I’ve done, but I’m looking forward to something more fun - like maybe pulling my own teeth out.

You can only work them once every 8 hours. I spend the time in between building up my base and my freighter. Now that the one mission has been fixed for you, you should be able to complete the missions very quickly. Also, there is some variation. They are not always the same.

On the screen where you select them, top right will tell you how many youve done.

This is similar to adrift expedition, except that the community driven milestone isnt optional, we have to help Polo finish their weapon to be able to defeat the Emperor of Glass.

Whats fun for me is, the team player counts is giving us some insight into how many people are actively playing the expedition across all platforms. Something we’ve never really been privy to. Of course, some people are doing this with multiple saves, some may not be doing it at all, its not a precise figure

Sometimes when fighting the swarm planetside, shooting them will knock them further and further away from me, sometimes over the hill and far away. Like they’re made of paper bags.

Rarely, they will spawn in and have their full focus on me, firing lethal barrages that almost completely kill me if I dont dodge them. My multitool doesnt knock them back in these instances. I think this is the intended behaviour for these encounters.

Last I remember, having done the missions for the three cool downs each day, missing the odd one, I was on

19 restore
19 purge
4 sabotage

I have run a total of 44 missions so far

Before the bug was fixed, that’s what I was getting all the time - except I wasn’t being attacked by five - it was ten. They were super-tough, my weapons had virtually no effect on them, they were all firing at me at the same time, and they wouldn’t give up. The swarm never subsided - on one occasion I hid deep underground for half an hour, and when I came out, they were still waiting for me.

I found this a little frustrating.

I had the same experience when I started the exp last Thursday, resigned myself to several deaths in the process of pulling that drone apart. Hadn’t been that frustrated in an exp since the start of The Cursed.

And you’re right - this is the first time an exp has been structured so that you must take it one milestone at a time, eventually stranding yourself on the shores of community service. I would prefer a shorter “downtime” but at least all the XBoxers were able to join in this week. Maybe a boost will come this weekend.

Ive been watching the stats closely, Tuesday alone saw 10,000 travellers join the fray and the total percentage went up 2 whole percent in one day. The xboxers are certainly here and things are definitely going quicker.

Interested to see how the weekend goes during peak hours and hopefully we get the Nintendo crew in with us soon for another boost to our rate of progress.

Countermeasures progress is currently at 16%

Regarding being attacked so much, I also assume Polyphemus experienced some extreme bug and it wasn’t intended to be so hard!

In the first encounter (with multiplayer still on), I was also swarmed, as if all players’ swarms were added together, but luckily, half the time, the swarms were distracted by other players, and missed me.

The milestone repeating and being stretched out across the whole month – that looks intentional. (If anyone has all the rewards already, they must have use some hacky client…) I’m not super motivated to do “dailies,” either, let alone three. I consider them optional… Who ever has time gets a chance to contribute how ever much they feel like, have fun… :person_shrugging:

I’m neither competitive nor completionist enough for this, I have other things to do. Like fixing the stupid drift on my HOTAS. :face_with_tongue:

The last patch contained a fix for players being attacked by too many corrupted drones - and I haven’t had the problem since - so I assume it was the same bug.

This is possible with a simple save editor. You can just toggle on all the current expedition rewards very easily. People do this a lot with expeditions I’ve noticed. I remember @DevilinPixy using it a few times to show off the rewards with some fancy catwalk screenshots of the latest fashions.

As for the story for the current expedition, if anyone is impatient and wants to see how it plays out and ends, you can always look at the lang_files posted for it in Datamining.

Personally, I’m gonna wait the few weeks it takes to get there and experience it fresh. Then dive into those files and make a new Expedition Lore book so my set is once again complete
