The Cursed Expedition 16

Maybe the terminal beside the giant portal is the void.
Maybe Artemis found a way past the glass and is gone from the sim and could be how dissonance learned how to leak out of containment.
Maybe Artemis is :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: with some players more than others.

You are on the correct planet. I fished from the shore, used no bait and cast in different areas, some shallow and some a little deeper. Caught maybe a total of 10 to get the ones needed. This worked on PC and PS5.

For me, anomalous fish were just regular fish. Use bare hook and took a few minutes from casting from shore. Note: Eel, crab, and boot did not count.

Well, I wasn’t as lucky as some here - but my experience was very similar. I just fished from the shore with no bait. Maybe one in ten fish turned out to be “special”, for no obvious reason. When my inventory got full of fish, I deleted them, and kept on going. After 30 minutes or so, I had caught all I needed. Deleted all fish, and moved on.

Sooo… no bait, then. Ok, gonna try that. Had tried it initially, but then they always escaped when I tried to reel them in. Mealworms resulted in some catches, but none of them what I needed.

I used mealworms & then what I caught as bait.
No special catches, just some were counted as the right kind.
I think I was done in about 15 minutes fishing the shallows from a water level tunnel I made.

On PC when using Keyboard I find I just look at the line, and wait for it to turn green and hold the button.

I noticed while editing the lang_files for Aquarius Expedition, there are new entries for the Fishing Rig in the Options menu. Theres an option for it to auto-catch the fish so you don’t have to press anything.

I’m not sure if this is an accessibility option or if it is a new option in the difficulty modifiers. If it’s the latter you may not be able to change it in the Expedition.

Changing this setting might be the way to go for people who just really don’t like fishing mini games, and will make the experience much smoother with guaranteed catches. Hopefully it’s in accessibility, I’ll be jumping on soon I’ll update with post if I remember to check. NMS is a game about forgetting what the hell you went there to do in the first place, after all. Like walking through infinite doorways into rooms to get… something.

edit:
It is possible to change the Fishing to Auto-Catch during the expedition by going into the Difficulty settings

I really regret leaving the expedition on my console and not sticking around to explore, I had a base set up in the uninhabited system and everything.

I remember coming across a base on that planet too that had a minotaur Geobay outside it called something like “Killing Fields”. I went there and hopped in, realised I had no upgrades or attachments purchased or built and just never thought to work on it, it was before I saw the corrupted quads milestone

Going to spend the time there on PC drinking the water and shooting pink elephants.

For those who have finished, and are now still mooching around the expedition systems, or for those who are still to complete the task:

In the second or third rendezvous system (depends how you count it - it’s the one without the space station) there is a planet called Wisbor XV. You go there to hunt worms. If you build a base anywhere, build one here. Equip it with a pimped minotaur. Wisbor XV has plentiful storm crystals, it has really long-lasting storms (so the crystals don’t disappear while you’re hunting them), and it has lots of activated indium deposits - the best source of chromatic metal in the game.

If ever there was a planet worth going back to, this is the one.

I want go back to my main save. But it seems I cannot move my items back.

I do not want to play this Expedition anymore, is there any way to move my items and quit the Expedition? I had mistakenly moved a lot of my core resources and upgrades to the expedition, I don’t want to re-mine/re-purchase them again.

Is my only option to wait for the Expedition to time out?

I’m seeing a lot of posts similar to this, of people saying they’ve been struggling with milestones for days (ones I passively did so I dunno what to tell them). This post struck me as they didn’t even mention their reason, they just wanted out and they wanted out now '^_ ^

This feels like the Expedition was really built for players who have been around the bend a few times and then some. Who know every which way to obtain the thing they need. It makes sense considering this is the continuation of a long running Arc that is based off of story events new players would probably not have uncovered yet.

This Expedition really was not made for new players to jump in on like the others at all. Hell even I was having a very hard time keeping up with the combat some times while thunderstorms, sentinels and giant tenticles shooting from the ground I accidentally enraged with the cross fire were all coming to kill me.

I felt genuinely overwhelmed and normally I’d prefer the game not be that way but considering this is the Abyss breaking through like we’ve never seen it before, it certainly made the threat seem VERY real. Like this is a force we Travellers should definitely be fearful of.

I still think OP is absolutely insane for detaching their main saves tech and plopping it through the transfer window. Build a back up or bring surplus stuff my traveller!

I was thinking exactly the same thing during the final boss battle to close the breach. By then I was using a class S multitool equipped with neutron cannon with 3 class S upgrades - and even then it was a struggle. Doing it with the peashooter the game initially gave you would have been impossible. But to get those upgrades during an expedition, you have to really know how the game works.

As I mentioned before, there is sensory overload with this expedition. Between the normal HUD notifications, the notices of what everyone in MP is doing, the voices from the world of glass or the void or wherever, and then the barrier protection fails and purple swirls and double vision and then these squids start flying at you and each one of them has a purple marker, and let’s not forget POI markers and player bases and comms galore…did I forget anything? It is a really bad time for those who can’t handle it for one reason or another. It was almost too much for me.

Yes. You forgot not seeing the rest of the landscape for more than 3 meters because you’re caught up in a storm, while biological horrors are swarming you because you just took out a tendril, and then the sentinels swarming you too because you were defending against the biological horrors.

It’s definitely a good thing one of the milestone rewards was a cloaking device…

:joy: yes. How could I forget the tornado that kept sweeping me away from that last, much needed storm crystal.
For the hungering worms, I stood on top of the dead bug formations and ignored the monstrosities under my feet.
For some reason, I had a hard time with the abyssal horrors and kept getting sucked in by their soul-piercing gaze. Never had that issue before. Must have been one thing too many for me to handle.
Working on my Switch run and it has many issues that keep me from playing it on there anyway. Terrain is very slow to respond for one thing. Working on Phase 4 now…

I used to wonder why I’d ever need a cloaking device in this game.

The Expedition was the first time where I was happy to have it.

I guess it doesn’t cover up your smell though because it did nothing to stop the creatures I angered in the cross fire from hounding me over hills and valleys while I snuck the one ring through Mordor.

It will forever be the Pink Elephant Expedition to me. Someone spiked the water with Champagne again I think…

Oh and I forgot the most dizzying effect of all…the rapid day/night cycle. It could leave some people falling out of their chairs.
I wonder what this Exp is like in VR? I would prolly be hanging my head over the toilet within 15 minutes.

So i was thinking, the last milestone in phase 5. Is there a way to complete the expedition without drinking the water? I have avoided drinking the last elixir of water and am currently trying a few things to see if i could get that boss to spawn somehow. The milestone was hidden too, suggesting it could be optional. It does not say optional but who knows right? I could be looking too deep into it but i think there should be a way to avoid the last drink, unless we were doomed from the start by drinking the elixir of glass. Is there even a choice?

I don’t see a choice if you want that new ship.
This whole expedition has been, don’t trust the portals, but go thru them 5 times. Don’t drink the water, but gulp down gallons of QS and jars of glass.
You’re doomed. Just drink it.
We all drank the water

Great tip. Wonder if that will hold when the expedition ends?

Sadly, the minimum threat level for this expedition is higher than my comfort factor (need to keep stress down).

I’d love it if some of these expedition advances in life etc. were built into the main game, which players could then better adjust threats and hazards and still get the lore advance experience.

Ah, well, expedition ends, and you have a whole universe of goodies to choose from.

Still, it’s a pretty good planet for resources - even when you have the freedom to go anywhere.

If it’s of any assistance to your situation, some of the difficulty sliders are unlocked for this expedition.

You can lower the frequency of encounters and reinforcements, which might help with the Corrupted Sentinels healing each other quicker than you can take them out.

You can also turn off tech upgrades taking damage from combat and reduce fuel cost (which might have an effect on anomalous suppressor), unfortunately it will not allow you to lower enemy strength for this expedition.

I’m not sure if it had any effect but I put my anomaly suppressor on a charged slot in the hopes it prolongs its protective measures.
