I finally set off some of the new purple tendril fireworks since we got a bunch as a reward during the expedition.
I was hanging out by the final portal setting them off for people coming through so there’d at least be some form of cheer amongst the field of bad-take-CommBalls.
The pattern of the fireworks is the same swirling pattern that appears when the Boundary Monstrosities breach through the Anomaly Suppresors defences.
If you are stuck on Phase 4, Genetic Glitch, where you need to scan 2 exotic animals; make sure you scan the exotic animal on the Planet of Light - Hijo. You can go ahead and go through the 4th portal and into the next system. There will be a scannable exotic animal in the next system, on the planet Dupraie.
There is a tassk to eliminate 8 corrupt quadrupeds. There are 2 kinds of corrupt quadrruped - small, relatively weak ones, and big, tough muthas. Both scan as “corrupt quadruped”. The small ones are fairly plentiful, and can be found in groups - the big ones are more rare, and only occur singly.
For the purposes of the task, only the big ones count. You don’t get any points for destroying the small ones.
This was the most taxing of all missions. If you can find the tall dissonant ‘drillers’, you can get 2 of the big mothers out of the brood.
I built a small base and waited til I had the new doodad that keeps the purple squid at bay, otherwise, you can become overwhelmed easily.
This was the moment where I had to stop priding myself on not bringing a multi tool over from my main save and just get it over with
The weapon types given as milestone rewards are the ones I happen to be the worst at using. Think I killed one after trying for nearly two hours. Got the other 7 in ten to fifteen minutes when I brought my main save multi over.
To get the ‘Kill 8 Corrupted Quadrapeds’, I built a base on the planet in a crater where there was a drill-thingy nearby.
I placed a box hut in the centre & had hidey-hole tunnels.
Plasma Launcher & The Pulse splitter (both with a few mods) were my tool of choice.
Noticed little quads were not counted & also made a point of ‘annoying’ the drones so I could draw them closer to get them quick (& their irritating buddies who rush over to fix them).
Grabbing drums fixes shields which is something to remember mid battle.
During your quest, you will be required to visit a dissonant world. There’s actually one in the first rendezvous system, although you aren’t required to visit it.
If, on your visit to a dissonant world, you find and claim a sentinel ship, it comes with a fully functioning warp drive. All you need to do is fuel it. You are no longer limitted to portal travel, and the systems the expedition seeks to limit you to.
While I was editing the text for the lore book there was lots of tool tips about finding a system with water or exotic planets by going to the galaxy map if you somehow happened to be in a system without these.
I kept thinking why did they bother if we can’t warp, I just assumed all ships warp drives would be disabled as an override.
This also explains why I saw a lot of sentinel ships during the expedition.
Great to know, I’ll be going back in with my pc playthrough soon and I was gonna hang out in it as long as possible, kinda regret ditching our new jellyfish octo pals on my console run. I want back in!!!
The Boundary Herald ship appears to be the first of its kind. I actually took the time to make observations with regards to this ship. The cockpit has numerous animated lights that move in sequence. It is the same outside the ship as well, light sequences that go around the circular shape of the ship. Older ships do have animation but not to this degree. Hello Games appears to be using expeditions as a way of exploring numerous fictional and sci-fi genres. The Liquidators Expedition was obviously based on Starship Troopers, The Blighted was based on pirates and the novel Treasure Island. The Cursed was based on the Cthulhu mythos and the elixirs we made were based on the water of life in Dune. So what could be next? The possibilities are endless. One of the most popular sci-fi tropes is the “alien invasion” such as War of The Worlds or Independence Day, so we could potentially have an expedition that explores this. Since Light No Fire is fantasy based, I’m certain we might have some elements of the fantasy genre show up in No Man’s Sky. Afterall, it appears No Man’s Sky, and expeditions in particular, are being used to “test” certain features that wil be in Light No Fire. I also think one of the programmers at Hello Games has taken psychedelics, the time altering effects of this expedition attest to it lol.

NipNip bud was one of the first things added to the game post launch with Foundations update.
I’m not saying those two things are connected but either way, I think it’s safe to say, as coders who went to Uni in the UK… they probably all have taken acid at SOME point.

Martin Griffiths is also of the age where he was probably out raving in clubs listening to ministry of sound and then coming home to come down on Wip3out before going in to work on games in the mid-late 90s XD (I imagine everyone was living like the characters in Spaced in the UK in the 90s)
As a note, I tried to dismantel the boundary herald. The game allows you to scrap it. Indicating left wing, right wing, and cockpit as options. Doing so deletes the ship but no parts are rewarded. Not sure what effect this will have on your save file going forward. So don’t try it. XD
Well, getting those tendrils on the infested planet without a space station to upgrade my weapons first was certainly something different for NMS. Not unwelcome, though.
But now I’m stuck with that stupid fishing milestone. Could somebody explain to me how I catch anomalous fish? I’m on the redacted planet, which might be anomalous enough, but not sure. There’s a couple of bases there that seem to suggest so. But all I seem to catch are common fish, so undoubtedly I’m doing something wrong. I don’t intend to waste hours with virtual fishing when there’s… ahem… bigger fish to fry, and especially since my spare time is extremely limited as it is and I have no idea if I’m going to make it through this expedition in only two weeks. So any hint that can help me resolve this annoying task in something like 15 minutes would be highly appreciated.
You’re definitely in the right place for Haunted biome fish, just gotta keep trying until you catch one that isn’t an Any Biome fish. Using a type of bait that will increase rarity chance is always beneficial, I think I was able to make some maglures with the stuff the game had me gathering when it came time to fish.
It only took me about 10 minutes fishing to get the required amount of Haunted fish.
You’ll know you’re in the right planet when the description mentions haunted. If it has a description that sounds like a typical biome like hot or cold, you’re definitely on the wrong planet.
I thought that I needed B or better fish (I’m not sure I did) so I made some meal worms for bait. I just stood on the shore and after catching 8 fish it had counted 4 of them.
