The Cursed Expedition 16

I’m in Phase 2. How do I get storm crystals? No planet seems to have them. The only way I can think of is to mine di-hydrogen and hope for a random drop.

If a planet has Activated Copper/Cadmium/Emeril etc then it will have Storm Crystals. Scan a planet from space or view it in the discovery tab to see what resources it has on its surface. If the planets mineral is “Activated” this is also a sign that it is an Extreme Weather planet.

You just gotta wait for the storms to activate them, they will look like normal stone and be unharvestable otherwise.

To add to the above, make sure it does not have Star Bulb though. Also, second system has a good planet for Storm Crystals and ancient bones, but may need quite a bit of glass elixir

I am now also stuck on the ancient site and exotic creature missions. I missed whatever planet I got all of this on in Steam. I got my exotics on a planet that had the building like creatures. Don’t tell me it was the system with no space station…

There’s some Exotic planets in the earlier systems too and I believe robotic creatures count as exotic. Though the robotics are in the one without the space station '^_ ^

I find I have to loot a derelict freighter. I seem to remember that the space station scrap dealer used to give you the first co-ordinates for free - but now the grubby little profiteer wants 5 million. I don’t think I’ve ever recouped 5 million from looting a derelict. Sounds like a losing proposition.

I haven’t bothered with the derelicts for years - is there any other way to find one?

Helios on the Nexus usually gives you one for free every week, have a check and see if he’s behaving himself during the Expedition

I had 5 million units saved up from the reward items and bones i’d dug up so I never checked myself though I absolutely was supposed to. Stupid game with it’s stu- Ooh what’s that over there now.

I also came out of my first derelict with 463 of the 800 needed. I was about to break down wondering where the hell I was supposed to get 10,000,000 from now!? (It goes up the more you buy in a day if I recall).

Then I rememebered you can sell the captains log and crew manifest for the stuff to the dealer and that just about brought me up past 800. I think I came out with 937…

So eh, SCRAPE the derelict clean if you have to.

I did check Helios and they are not giving away the device. If I remember correctly, Helios doesn’t give you his first device until you have bought one from the scrap dealer, then it is one per week.

If you want to rebel and recoup your 5M you can hide the device in your personal refiner after activating it. Once you get done with the mission and are back at the station, take it out of the refiner and jump in/out of your ship to reset it. Then you can then repeat until you get your money back (or longer if you just like farming derelict freighters).

I use to average just over 5M from the derelict, but lately the haul hasn’t been anywhere near that. I don’t know if the game has changed, or if I have just been unlucky lately. Random is just… random. Now it is closer to 2M(ish)

Edit: I started the expedition clean, if you started from another save then Helios might be worth checking.

You can smuggle things in your refiner? This is the greatest unintentional feature since melee jetpack launch

I dug up the artifacts while working the ancient site mission and I had enough between those and all the bones from the bone mission. I had about 15 mil by the time I did the derelict freighter

Finally finished Exp 16.
Not my favourite. Pity too because I’d been looking forward to it.
Just felt rushed & a bit messy with things not working well leading to frustrations.
I won’t rant as others have enjoyed it.

Few tips for the as yet uninitiated:

  • Collect lots of Elixir makings as you go early on as you need to top up your protection quite a bit.
  • Pay attention to the glyphs for each blood type so you have the right one handy.
  • Keep an eye open for ruins & plaques as you fly about to get the ‘find ruins’ quest done passively because the signal booster is pretty useless.
  • When hunting for bones, have a different quest active so you can avoid the auto-scan which is buggy.
  • Ramp up your weaponry & shielding to deal with larger battles. I found a basic base on a desonate world (with the protection doohicky you get as a reward) useful to make a mission involving defeating sentinels easier.
  • Don’t drink the Elixir of Water until you are on a planet surface or you’ll end needing to get the ingredients all over again.

Good luck.

To add to this, I noticed there is an error notification in the lang files about using the Elixir in water.

Don’t, is the message I’m getting.

Definitely make damn sure you are on land

If you have problems with finding plaques and ruins, collect a bunch of nav coords from POIs and the old above ground vortex cubes(red cubes on black pillars). Trade these in at the cartographer for the aincent alen building coords (the one with the monolith icon). It makes it much easier to find the plauqes and ruins.

To be specific, we need the plaques…and I cannot find one anywhere. Been thru a dozen charts and they keep sending me to the dig sites. The other chart sends me to a monolith…may jump to another system
Update. Used a space station portal back to RV 1 and got both plaques with just 2 scans with a charts

If you stay on a planet, and keep using a chart of the same type, it won’t mark a site of a type it has already marked. It might say “no site detected” but it will do that for a bit, keep trying to use the map and it will keep working until it’s marked one of every POI that this type of map can mark.

Best thing about this is, say you are grinding out Colossal Archive Lore, so long as you don’t visit any of the other sites, after arriving at your destination, (and all other possible POI’s are marked) next time you use the map it will only mark another Archive, or whatever it is you may be using this method to grind out.

Going to talk about something from the Expeditions story line so blurring below for anyone who hasn’t started or may not have recieved a certain message yet…

Artemis is gone… I’ve been thinking about this and what it might mean from different perspectives.

I think most peoples initial reaction is they’re talking about our decision and using it to taunt us. Either we chose to destroy them with the mind arc, and they’re tormenting us with our decision, or we chose to restore Artemis to some sense of “life” and they are telling us it was futile anyway, Artemis is gone, this was just an echo.

But what if they’re saying that Artemis is gone, from their perspective?

We know Artemis was in the world of glass and was being pursued by 16 smiling faces in the glass. Or something to that effect. We then captured Artemis’s Echo in a Mind Arc and either, put it in a sub-simulation aboard the Anomaly or Destroyed them. From their perspective, Artemis, who was there with them, is gone.

It’s vague enough all versions are correct but just something I thought I’d share so I can stop thinking about it

‘They’ also keep telling us we can’t hide forever and that they still see us. This fits with Nada and Polo telling us that the Anomaly will not hide them forever. The time is close. The barrier is collapsing.

Something that has been working for me is to grab several charts for finding alien structures (three should do to start). Use one and see what it takes you to. If it is not what you are looking for then leave it alone and use a second chart. They will either find a different structure type or will fail because there aren’t any more structure types to find in the current system. Once you find a plaque you can go to it and then use another chart to find a second plaque. I got lucky and found mine on the first try, but you might need as many as 4 charts for this expedition. (Unless they have changed the way the game works, my luck is that any time I say something as a fact it gets changed.)

Also I no longer trust the Voids plan at all.

Paul, the Friendly Badger, (thats his name, shuddup!) mentioned they should not have drank the water. And now theres all this talk of a Singularity.

If Void Mother’s plan is to just have us all join her Cult and wait for the rapture, I’m out. Fool me once, Jonestown… Shame on you… Fool me Twice? Not happening.

Oh and the Excursion they say the Atlas will not be happy to know they’ve been on (even if it’s somewhere the Atlas cannot see)…

I’m between two minds on this one… It almost sounds like they’re saying they left the SIM. It’s more likely they mean their excursion out of the world of glass and back to the surface/physical level of the Simulation, but the way it’s worded makes you wonder.

I was so happy when I realised they altered them to work this way. I remember initially using the maps when introduced. they were hit and miss and it was in the time when your waypoint would only mark a handful of thigns before overriding them, regardless of category.

Like a lot of the best things in the game, it’s a feature that should really be communicated better to players. But then what advice or tips would the community have to share with eachother? It’s a balancing act from a developers perspective I suppose.

For exotic creatures, it is the Scaly Planet, Todai 15/Z6, system Gaxaral that you want to visit.
And yes, I was able to teleport to a base I built there and then call the Anomaly to teleport back to where I need to be
And done on PS5

I wish I had set a base in that third system. My way of finding the extra exotic planet was to go to the portal, find out that the blood doesn’t work a second time and enter a random address. I got lucky and the first system had a suitable planet.
