Here’s the one I just ran across.

I keep hoping that these numbers actually have in-game significance.

Weeellll…

Numbers stations really exist, in real life. No government will admit to what they are, or to owning one, but they’re widely believed to be a means of anonymously communicating with secret agents in foreign countries. You can read about them here:

The trouble with numbers stations (well, the real ones, at least), is that they are believed to communicate in a code system known as a “one time pad”. And the trouble with a one time pad is that unless you have the key, they are completely secure and uncrackable.

So if the numbers stations in the game are following the example of the real life ones, unless the game gives us a key, we can never decrypt the information.

It is very easy to pick these up on shortwave. I have listened to them many times. Very interesting. Just a very flat, unemotional voice, reading off numbers. I have also picked up the morse code stations. If it is a strong signal, it is likely one of these communications. If it is a very weak signal and repetitive, it is likely the call letters to a nearby airport or landing strip.

That’s true for any private key encryption system. The distinction of a one-time pad is, as the name implies, that the key is only valid once, then it becomes useless. The term “one-time pad” refers to the olden days where these keys would be written on a pad that then had to be physically transported to the recipient in order for him to read the messages (one-time pads, up to this day, have to be transported physically, as transmitting them would be a rather big hole in the security, though they usually are digital now, and additionally encrypted, with the key to the pad being transmitted either digitally or also sent physically on another route).

Each pad usually contains a series of keys, each valid only once, and each having to be applied in a certain sequence. Once the keys are used, a new pad must be delivered. This seems like something very annoying, but is of course part of the security scheme. Even if an enemy manages to get his hands on a pad unnoticed, he’ll only be able to listen in on so many messages.

One-time pads are a staple high-value commodity in hard(ish) sf scenarios to justify an interstellar manned flight, as there is no substitute to physical delivery by concept.

Oh, man. You just had to dash water on the hot hope, didn’t you!

And on Friday the 13th to boot!

That’s only if they haven’t given us a key somewhere. It would be cruel, and a bit pointless, to tease us like that.

Perhaps finding the key is a quest we haven’t discovered, or hasn’t been launched yet?

What frequency did you hear this on? I have a HF (shortwave) radio. And mode I assume is AM. Could be LSB or USB. I have all modes.:radio::sunglasses:

For those interested in real number stations, the below website keeps a schedule. So if you wish to listen in, get your radio out, or visit an online Web SDR.

It has been a few years. Fairly certain it was off the coast of Mexico. Couldn’t say what the freq was but definitely SW. Around 1 or 2 am was always a good time to find it. Likely drug cartel. So it may not be around anymore.
My strategy was to surf the freqs. Honestly have not done it in a while. Maybe I will start again tonight since we are basically homebound with this virus loose.
For clarification, the call signs from airports are MW (AM)

Wow. Alot of info. Thank you for the link🙂

Nice. When I started, there was no internet, well not the internet of today. So I used charts and books.

It would be nice if all these numbers we are finding would actually lead to something. We keep hoping.
Just found an interesting log from 26 April 99 ended at 21:28 cst originating from Bosnia-Hercegovinia on 7108.1 kHz USB two sets of morse code repeating
_ . . . / _ . _ . (Won’t register spaces between dots, lol)

I’m thinking these number machines (in NMS) might be connected to this mysterious ‘dark’ entity mentioned in recent lore. Maybe co-ordinating an attack of some sort…
Or maybe they are some kind of leftover from the great sentinel purge…
Kind of spooky, either way.

So… we’re back to ham radios? How appropriate!

This is a image of random encounter from reddit.
So here is my speculation part:

  1. Taken 8200FA557C30 and exchange it for portal glyphs

  2. Get this adress: 042F:0079:0D56:0200

  3. Looking for it in google and found this:

  4. 042F:0079:0D56:0079 Eisentam PC HUB15-79 Udiovi-Sudo; HUB15-79 Udiovi-Sudo - No Man's Sky Wiki

Region is a part of Galactic Hub Eissentam on all platforms.

Is this coincidence or really these are signposts ?

It would be a nice “bonus” if these were indeed related to gameplay!

If these hex sequences were to mean anything, I don’t think we can just omit the first 4 digits, as we have other finds that start with 0001. Even then, although interesting to directly convert to glyphs, it still results in issues with some of our earlier finds.

Take for example this one posted here, which is as follows: (0000) 8C00029040B2
If we take the Planet Index (PI) + Solar System Index (SSI) of 8C00, which has the first digit indicate the PI=8, followed by the SSI=C00, then this SSI value is too high, considering research has so far not found a value higher than 2AA for the amount of Systems in a Galaxy Region. Even the PI=8 is quite high, although not impossible, we would usually use 0-6, as the maximum amount of satellite bodies is 6 (planets/moons).

Either way, even though your resulting Galactic Address has the first 12 digits equal, the last 4 remaining digits represent the PI+SSI. This means it is referring to a completely different System (0079 versus 8200 or 0200). Only the Galaxy Region is the same, but that is quite a large area.

We have yet to figure out what it means, although I seriously doubt there is anything to it.

It would be nice if all of these new discoveries somehow linked to the weekend events and the fissures we keep closing up. Perhaps these objects are somehow managing to get through and they represent coordinates from another dimension…?
