There’s been some talk about this on other forums. For the Hyperspace Navigation Stations, if you remove the 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th hex digits, it gives a valid portal address. If you go to this portal address you find:
The portal address is the player’s current location
I was hoping for something more interesting, but I’ve checked it out and it seems to be true.
This 16-digit/64-bit format shows up in the save game file. The first two digits are just leading zeros to ensure that the value displayed has 16 digits. The 7th and 8th digits are usually 00 as well, but are uncommonly other values. These are ignored for obtaining galactic address coordinates but they may have had more of a use at one time. Or maybe they encode something else, like the galaxy number.
They might very likely really just be filler. Computer memory works in 2^nth, so you can’t actually store something between 32 and 64 bit. You either have to truncate or fill or split. Truncating is obviously not an option, and splitting really isn’t worth it anymore in our age of abundant memory.
Would love to check out the discussion. Do you have a link?
Interesting find none the less. The two leading zeroes being filler makes sense. This makes me doubt that 7th and 8th digit are meaningless, considering I have seen quite a few that were not 00. Considering two digits, this would allow from 00-FF. The one thing that is left out with Portal Coords, is the Galaxy. What if these two digits actually indicate galaxy and are therefor left out to get a portal code? The fact they are usually 00, could mean the first Galaxy, ie. = 0, Euclid? Other values I have seen include 09 (= 9, Eissentam?), 0A (= 10, Elkupalos?), and a single odd one of 70 (= 112, Bloytisagra?)
At least it all works out, so I guess that mystery is mostly solved now. Does that mean the Number Stations have a meaning as well? Hmmm, … interesting!
Sorry if I’m not following (one response was deleted before I could read it):
So the Hyperspace Navigation Stations do or do not broadcast the current system’s coordinates? (Or, the coordinates of a planet in the current system?)
Or was that just coincidence?
Yes, the hyperspace navigation stations broadcast the current coordinates. It would be nice to see some examples of screenshots showing both the broadcasted coordinates and the glyphs in the lower left at the same time to further verify this. I didn’t think of doing this myself as I was looking for hyperspace navigation stations.
No vlue why I wasn’t following this particular topic. If these encounters tell us anything, its that HG has an in-game asset that could be a potential place holder for something that needs the coordinates of the system.
Maybe a space “freeway” and these are the entrance/exits?! or just cool space anesthetics.
I finally found a answer. I translated ShadowWarriorJB’s numbers he got from the anomalous numbers station. Found by translating hex numbers to text. Here it is, confusing, but a answer indeed: iFgta
Hyperspace Navigation Stations just give you coordinates to the star system you are currently in. I have confirmed this by converting it to a portal code, and the portal took me back to the same star system.
. Few Mins later while in a the next system I find a gate that travels me over 170k light years away from the Center (no pics sorry). I look around, nothing special so I go back to my main home system eventually and call it a night. Yesterday I looked at these numbers online and figured that I could decode them after googling for an NMS portal decoder:! As you can notice, I only put in the first 12 numbers as 15 isn’t enough for any kind of conversation I could think of or look online other then XYZ Coords which brought me to a regular looking system that I could warp/gate from. So I put these 12 codes in last night and get an AMAZING looking planet, red, vibrant, mario colors and was even ridding some crab/brain looking thing.
So, I leave the planet cause my buddy needed me back ‘our’ system, didn’t even think to put a signal booster down and write down the hex location. Tried to get in today, warped me to 2 diff other places but never that one again So…I think it really is a 1 time Pass thru to that world, you leave, that’s it. Or, the next set of coords might be to the same place, but I doubt it. Everything was so darn cool, even frigates in space were bright red and black. I don’t know if I can ever get back there maybe thru that real life numbers station website that gives out codes somehow but I doubt that too (all speculations online on diff sites). If the purpose of those codes are a 1 way opening and forces you to really stay on that world or else; that would really suck cause other then the rainstorms, it was awesome just couldn’t figure out what 2 do there other then taken in by planets beauty. And what are those 3 extra numbers for???(2 in some cases I’ve seen posted) if not XYZ numbers??? Was I suppose to use those coords from the system I got those numbers from? So many questions as usual with this game, that’s why I’m still playing 400+hours since 3 months next week lol. Side note I just put those coords in an again get an invalid portal error and that it’s pinpointing to the nearest location and always different areas but never that same one. Or if it’s invalid its always random portal/system worlds and I just got lucky with a really cool world? Hm. I even tried adding the numbers by 2’s each new number with the total of the last as someone suggested off another site and had hex coords but nothing special there either. Stumped.
