Sean Murray's Reveals MAY 2018 (PvP Disscussion)

Very cautious…practically on extreme alert at this point since if this goes bad I’ll have to take very drastic and immediate action from the fist instant I boot up NMS NEXT. I’d rather PvP not be a thing at all but its existence will not be a bother to me if it is properly isolated so that only those who expressly want it get to be involved in it.

Again , this is a mute point guys and gals.

Just wait until more details are given, we are %100 speculating with every worry or concern, counter points, pros, cons, etc.

Lets not argue over milked that hasn’t even been poured yet.

I voted for curious. Though I am somewhat between curious and cautious, I tend toward curious more.

There’s no way that HG won’t consider those who are not keen on PvP. Even if it would be forced multiplayer (which I don’t think it will be, since there’s an option whether to want base sharing or not), then they had implemented systems to prevent excessive griefing of other players.

So yeah, I’m definitely curious about it. But what I’m much more curious about are the features that were not mentioned yet. :grinning:

The damage is already done. Announce that PvP will be added to a game and watch as player killers stroll into once peaceful communities.

I think true multi-play will add SOOOoooo much more to No Man’s Sky. In an infinite space full of billions upon billions of stars, if you don’t want to be found just zoom off to an anonymous undiscovered part of the Universe.

I’ll probably be there though lol. But seeing a real traveller every once in a while or even visiting a city maybe to see others will make it all brilliant.

This coming update I think will be very exciting. I hope multi-play includes being able to have a pet! lol Probably no but that’d be worth a good rumour…

Imagine that meeting a guard pet on an abandoned Freighter you have to sneak past either solo or working as a team… Or smuggling a dangerous or cuddly animal into a new part of the galaxy.

Or being rewarded currency for transporting endangered creatures to a safe zone, like a Galactic Zoo where we could look at awe at all the possible creature combinations on display. A giant NMS Museum or Aquarium for instance, or a small fish tank decoration for a home base. lol

I wouldn’t worry too much. I know the prospect of millions of new PVP-loving X-box players added to the fold is daunting but there are some facts that temper the mental picture of marauding hordes in every star system:

  • The consoles will still not likely be together.
  • You can be selective about who knows your addresses when you do your after update base moves.
  • The universe is huge. You can be practically unfindable if you want to be.
  • Many of the peaceful community members here are not pushovers and will not stand for player harassment. This will help maintain the hubs we choose to establish.
  • Sean Murray, not being the biggest fan of PVP and “that guy”, had that peaceful exploration interest in mind while developing the coming NEXT update. He would be the last person in the world to take that possibility completely away.

To be fair we don’t know if PvP will just be unrestricted…right now most of us suspect it will be gated in some way…either in a separate game mode, or by a more detailed menu option besides the existing one to turn off online play or people having to enter a simulation within the game to get to play PvP or some such. So there’s hope that it won’t affect what’s been established in the game.

It has to be gated, otherwise permadeath would be an issue.

What if we are thinking about this in the reverse direction. What if we get a new “Exploration” mode that does not have the regular multiplayer features that the other modes will have ?

(If this is the case, giving your older save files this choice at the start of NEXT would be great, imo.)

Any one got a link to the new ship images cleaned up

Maybe Permadeath should be the only mode that allows for True PVP. Imagine people playing Permadeath who have worked months on their character meeting another player? Imagine them becoming friends with others who play the mode despite the chances of being killed by others? Then Imagine the reward of building a large community of Permadeath PVPers.

People have a lot more to lose and gain in Permadeath.

Personally though I think that if they allow pausing and backing up saves that even Permadeath’s Risks can be circumvented.

Well, most probably this will lead to the establishment of civilizations enforcing law and order and on the other side the emergence of unlawful space. And, let’s face it - wasn’t this the thing we all dreamed of when we heard of the massive size of NMS the first time?

I mean, practically a Freelancer with all its sectors, factions and subfactions, governments, corporations and companies as well as pirates, unlawful groups, activists and rebels … however made by the players themselves.

There will be a place for everyone to find himself a new home. No matter where.

That’s not happening…pretending that people will all choose to obey someone else for no particular reason is silly. People will want to play their games and do whatever they want to do…the notion of “governance” and “politics” in a space like NMS is silly at best. Some may choose to go help against a griefer if they feel like it but at the end of the day nobody will listen to anybody beyond what they feel like doing or would do regardless. We really need to stop pretending this is more than it is.

Honestly, I disagree. Just see the Galactic Hub for example - who ever thought that there would one day such a massive group of people creating / exploring / sharing a part of the universe?

Also, people love to roleplay. There definitely will be things emerging which are bigger than just a small group of people.

Freelancer still has an active (modding) community which is creating groups with strong hierarchy. Why would it be different in NMS? Sure, not immediately after the update, but given time, something will arise. Even more, many things will arise.

Of course, it is not a given. Yet I think it is a quite probable possibility.

Yeah i got you fam. one sec

Will edit in with pic

People can choose to live near one another because they benefit…I just want to unlock all the decorations related to visiting player bases, some of which are bugged right now, others want to go harvest stuff from others farms, others still like to benefit from the discoveries of others because they’re not very good at finding stuff for themselves like S class stuff and so on…but there is no such thing as any form of power or structure. It’s not like anyone has to do something they don’t want to or otherwise wouldn’t do regardless because someone says so. It’s a system that right now doesn’t allow for friction. And if PvP were unrestricted many of those people have no interest in dealing with griefers or let’s play pretend government where they listen to someone else and go fight the griefers they have no interest in dealing with.

Well, no point in arguing that. It’s always a question of cost / benefit.

Still, we shouldn’t underestimate the player’s readiness to build up bigger societies. Someone definitely will do it, and others will definitely follow.

Anyhow, only time will tell. But I am very excited at the thought of it.

It’s ok dude I got it now, thanks anyway :+1:

There is no cost and there would be no benefit if PvP is unrestricted…pretending that the current hubs would be anything other than war zones if PvP is unrestricted is silly. Because there would be griefer groups too that would come in numbers…actually they’d have a massive advantage and practically always win. Why? Because the game engine isn’t without limits…only so many player characters will be able to be rendered at once so if the griefers coordinate and come in numbers the one they attack would be literally incapable of getting help…at best reinforcements would be orbs that do nothing.
