“Old Gods” isn’t specifically Lovecraftian: IIRC Lovecraft tended to use “Elder Gods” or “Great Old Ones”. The term “Old Gods” seems to be used in a lot of media, though I’m not sure to what extent the trope owes its common use to Lovecraft.
Even if it’s not an explicit Lovecraft reference, it’s thematically appropriate. The idea that there are powers beyond our understanding, from dimensions outside of ours that would destroy our minds to contemplate, fits in with a lot of the Atlas lore and the idea that we’re living in a simulation. Most of the videos so far seem to just be thematic tangents rather than direct clues, and I guess that this Metallica one fits into that category. It seems highly unlikely that HG are going to throw NMS into the Cthulhu mythos, but we should certainly be wary of what we’re awakening!

@Raist Nice post on that video, good stuff. Though goign from sams stream (appreciate him streaming but he was actually an ass to his friend and encouraged the mean commenting aimed towards their guide) and these youtubers that made it, they were kinda clueless on the arg… So many people confused as to why they got noodles -_-
