This is a screen capture of Satcom-70 ‘The Big Red Dot’ [a.k.a the SJ 16-20 Footprint] for those that might not be able to view the website to experience what is being tracked.
Very acute observation. I think you’re right.
Also, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, there seems to be more emphasis on participation this time round. It’s like the tasks are not as important as the fact that people take part. And that all goes to serve the same end.
We have about seven days to complete the task right?
In the words of the (old) Gods:
“It should take about a week to gather enough data, but it could take less time depending on how many Citizen Scientists across the world help us.”
I will have Excellent contact with the satellite June 3 and 4 but, it will be too late. If the weather is clear, I may see if I can spot it. I have never really tracked earth satellites. It would be nice if I could see an iridium flare.
Noob Question Here.
What do we do after we synced the App? Just wait around for another 7 days? XD
I just got a 0.97 SigStrength.
Seems that way. Wait to be contacted. Go play No Man’s Sky.
From @oldgods - “It should take about a week to gather enough data, but it could take less time depending on how many Citizen Scientists across the world help us.” (my emphasis).
It really does seem to me that what’s important is the number of different people who submit data, not the amount of data submitted.
I just thought since it said they will validate the signal strength but they do not record the location then I could do it multiple times for more data collection. I guess that’s not how it works though lol… Thanks for clearing that up.
Sweet!
@Polyphemus
Now if it does matter “How” many people will Send in their Sync data, then it might just be a hidden in-game survey to see how many are able and willing to stay active in the ARG. Just a speculative train of thought!
Somehow it seems to me that the number only matters if there are a large number of us, else they would just proceed to the next stage in 7 days.
I’m sure you can post multiple replies. If that’s what you want to do, go ahead.
Your reply is coded somehow. A & S know who sent it (possibly geographical location). Anyway, they know. Otherwise, how could they contact you after you’ve replied?
My point is that the wording of the request seems to emphasise the number of different people sending in data. I believe that’s what’s important. They want to involve as many people as possible.
Not necessarily. They’re going to reply to all the people who sent in data. I suspect that if you don’t send in data, you won’t be invited to take part in the next task.
There were a couple of tasks in the first phase that worked that way.
Do you all agree that there doesn’t seem to be any link between the data collection and our CSD ID’s? Meaning there’s no way for them to tell which individuals may have participated, just the number of data sets collected.
I am certain they are collecting the CSD IDs of the people who send in data. They have said that they’re not storing locations. But they’ve also said that they will reply to the people who completed the task. They have to know who we are in order to do that.
Not too sure they know who is sending in data, just anonymised ip address/location hash. The app didn’t ask for user name and my phone is completely separate to my computer. It’s even on another network (cellular), so how would they know?
They will send an email to everybody - they will just assume everyone took part. At best they could ask for sync codes to confirm you took part.
I’m just wondering (with my computer nerd hat on) how they could possibly make the connection betwee our email accounts and the Myriad app (really just a link). Cookies perhaps?
Or they didnt…
What can I say? In the first phase of the ARG, there was a group of tasks that were only allocated to people who had completed certain actions beforehand. They didn’t email everyone.
So they’ve done it before.
Well, we’ll find out in a week.
