10.30 pm and back in my recliner.
It was fun. I enjoyed it. I laughed. I did not cry. I was willing to suspend reality for it.
There were only 5 people in the room. Me and the only other woman chatted afterwards. She asked if I read the book. I hadn’t. She said the movie was good but the book is better.
Maybe not a glowing review but it’s all I’ve got.
I will read the book. I doubt I buy the movie.

Just saw the new film written and directed by John Carney. Power ballad.
Very enjoyable movie and my dad absolutely enjoyed it so definitely a safe choice for people of all ages and generations.
The irish guy who had his song stolen by Robbie Williams was clearly the catalyst for this movies story, aboimut a former boy band member who takes some songs from a struggling musician during a trip to Ireland, but it very much makes the story its own so as not to land in any legal hot water.
Highly reccomended if you enjoyed John Carneys previous films like Once or Sing Street.
My city features heavily in it so was an absolute treat to see, from Crumlin to LA

People talk about Dark Side of the Rainbow like it’s more than it is, but “Echoes” + the “Jupiter & Beyond the Infinite” sequence lines up in an uncanny good way.

Saw it last night. Couldnt get an IMAX screening but still enjoyed it regardless. Going to try catch it with friends in IMAX next weekend.
All evening screenings for imax in my area are sold out for the next two weeks which is crazy.
I know Christopher Nolan is popular and always sells seats but I didnt think people were this hungry for a swords and sandals movie and didnt expect it to be a huge draw.
Also surprised by how many people are not at least somewhat aware of the Odyssey, even in passing they should at least know about the trojan horse or the sirens etc.
Overheard a lot of people on my way out saying “if I knew it was about some guy lost at sea I might have passed. Christopher Nolan isnt even trying anymore, where was the big twist?”
its close to almost 3000 years old, why were you expecting a twist my guys? Were they also angry when the Oppenheimer biopic didnt have a twist? 
I hope @Polyphemus gets in for free, that’s all I’ll say 
Enjoy it guys, but make good use of the bathroom beforehand, close to three hours, prepare snacks accordingly.

I just saw it. Took off with my brother and I can’t say enough about it.
It is like classic literature. No, there is no jump out of your seat and hoop and holler moment. It is like finishing a book, closing the cover and as you walk away, the enormity of the story you have just witnessed begins to sink in.
Very well done.
And yes, there were a couple of women in my age group who were completely lost at the end. (really?!!!) What has happened to people? Two younger women sat down the row from me on their phones thru the whole thing!!!
3 things I really appreciated about it from an artistic perspective
1-actual sets and actual costumes hand crafted and so detailed
2-no gore. Instead, Nolan replaces the visual with the audible and the affect is really well done
3-the slow burn of Odysseus’ tale builds your anticipation and results in a real emotional rush at the end.
I really want to see it in IMAX

My dad hates gore, he always covers his eyes and dips his head. He kept doing it during it and not realising he was only making it worse by allowing his imagination to fill in the blanks entirely. The film does a very good job of covering his eyes for him 
I don’t really understand it, its like he never learned to disassociate it from reality and see it for the art of visual/practical effects. Whenever I see this stuff in films I always think about the team and people behind it and the execution and design that went into making those moments etc.

To me, Nolan did an excellent job of making you feel the horror of war without the gore. For me, it made it more emotionally impactful instead of visually shocking. I think it had a much stronger impact this way. It reached in on an emotional level to bring home the impact of what was happening and more importantly in this case, what was happening to Odysseus. It is, after all, a tale of the impact of decisions made during war and finding himself again afterward so he could finally “go home”.
