Living Ships

I tried the approach laid out in:

Turned that it didn’t matter where I headed - only how long before the Upgrade appeared which was random but generally less than 18 seconds.

Ah, you know I can’t resist a challenge.

You could move all your tech into the organ chamber to give you more inventory space

Yap. When I first took a look at the inventory, I was like “only so few slots? awwwww!”. One click later I was like “oh, again as many tech-slots! SWEEEEET!”

I have done so since taking that pic. It is still going to be a tight fit. Thanks @MacForADay!

I love the sounds they make. A nice departure from the metal clanking of our regular ships. Nice ships @Mad-Hatter.

My daughter says my posts are “cringe-worthy” because I refer to my ship as if it is alive. Well, didn’t SM state that they were different because they are “alive”?
So here is a poll. ( never done this before. Hope it works )
Is it “cringe-worthy” to refer to our new ships as if they are alive?

If you read the text regarding the tech, you’ll see it suggests “asking” the ship to do things and “keeping it happy” by warping between systems as opposed to simply piloting it. Yep, it’s alive.

…and my two-tone likes a pat on the chin

I will check this theory as well later today on PS4.

Did you see the frequency other anomalies increase or was is just upgrades?

Thank’s I try that next time. I haven’t been using any egg’s after that lol.

The trick to finding the eggs seems to be pulsing in undiscovered star systems. @BoomstickJoe told me this trick, and I got an egg in the first encounter in an uncharted system. The reason is, there is no random traders in these systems.

Quick question: can you use standard ship Storage Augmentation modules to upgrade living ship inventory?

I purposely haven’t finished my eggship quest yet (stopped before collecting the final soul). I’m currently harvesting augmentation modules from salvaged ships, so I needed to keep the 6th ship vacant for that task. If they work, then I’ll be sure to grab a few extra for use on the living ship later too.

No, everything is different for the livings ships: all different tech names, all different upgrade modules, and you can’t upgrade them with the terminals.

No. Direction matters not, its timer based. A longer cooldown timer between 2 or 3 shorter cooldowns. Spending time planetside helps relieve bordom during the longer cooldown which can be up to 10mins, minimum is 2 minutes. The short cooldown is a minute or less. Exact time is random, and other enounters are included in the pool.

Freighter and eggs are higher chance in uncharted systems. If you are in a populated system, then traders are added to the pool and have a higher chance over freighters and eggs.

Eggs appear only while you’re piloting a living ship.

System rarity affects the encounter pool and the number of the short cooldown occurences.

Note there are 2 types of trade encounters, one with a cargo manifest, and a second with a blind item trade. Blind item trades can have a player side losing deal. ( I.E. ya get screwed)

So far i had the best luck in blue uncharted systems, though i have a feeling green maybe just as good. I collected 37 upgrades in a 5 hr span in a blue uncharted system. Enough to max out my 2 ships and have a few extra. If you’re on ps4, i dont mind handing out the extras.

And no i didn’t spending all the time pulsing  . I dropped onto the planet to discover a few things during the long cooldown. I also avoided pirates by calling my freighter in during the hostile scan, before it discovered an inventory item, and ducking inside.

Went to an uncharted system.
Pulsed around & kept getting freighter wreckage and the pirates  …& a curvey anomolous metal being thing

Anyway;
Relocated to another uncharted system & after a 30 second pulse, recieved a ‘space egg’.
Installed it, called freighter, hop-out restore point then immediate reload autosave.
Next run was about the same time with same results. Rinced & repeated several times until I began to get duplicates (grafted eyes).
Seems to work once you find a friendly system.
Watch your fuel and direction doesn’t matter.

I had performed several 3 minute pulses towards a star with lackluster results.

I had only 3 encounters for the 20 minutes that I tried this: 2 traders, and a broken freighter. I will try @BoomstickJoe 's suggestion of an uncharted system.
