Yes I am well aware of this technique. I must say it proved to be 100% unreliable in my case  So, not for lack of trying! They’re a mystery that bugged me for a loooong time.

Oh to be sure there’s plenty out there. I’m just bad at finding them!

There’s a couple of YouTube videos about it. I’ll dig one out. Basically, you stand on top of the ruin, and draw a line of sight through the flag holder to the horizon. Fix that destination in your mind. Then get in your ship, and fly in that direction. You may have to fly for ten minutes or so, but when I’ve tried it, 8 times out of 10, I’ve found a portal.

Video in 5 minutes or so.

Weeell, that works because, if there are portals, flying on a straight lĆne you will eventually find one… Or so it is said.

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that now. I tried it once but got distracted by so many things along the way, I got turned around and wound up back someplace I had been earlier… :open_mouth:

just a note, i have found plenty of portals all around the galaxy. however, it could be a reference to the hidden star system in the center.

I thought your picture looked like Amelia Erhart. With that attitude to navigation, you’re likely to share the same fate.

Problem with the center is simple, it does not end, Going there causes restart. I have never finish the NADA quest to go to the center. When you get to the edge of it, 9000+ light years left to center it restarts and NADA reappears in the new galaxy saying the center is near , the end is near etc. over and over and over …

Yeah I hadn’t considered the ā€œhaze zoneā€ glitch systems, could be pointing to that. To clarify, I was more wondering whether portals are somehow more abundant on planets closer to the galactic center. Code would suggest it’s random, but I personally haven’t seen or tried any comparison of the density of portals in a system close to center vs. one near the edge of the galaxy for instance. Given how difficult it is to find all the portals on a planet, I’d imagine this would be a hard thing to quantify. In theory it should be possible to find a portal on every planet (except maybe barren worlds?)

Oh I’m well aware of that. but early on pre-launch S.M. mentioned things getting weirder towards the center, and now we have Nada mentioning glitches being more prevalent towards the center. Smells like a hint. (Or maybe some foreshadowing of the narrative that awaits us in 1.3)

I think portal frequency is linked to building frequency, and completely random. I found a planet a couple weeks ago about half way between Euclid center and edge with buildings/ruins everywhere and at least 7 different portals that I found, have never found a planet with that density again. I spent a good amount of time near the center, <10,000 LY, and didn’t find anything like it.

I don’t know if the word is out but the Status CMD changed its response again.

Its been at that same status for a couple hours now…

If you find a planet like that, with loads of buildings, they also have lots and lots of crashed ships. Happy hunting!

It also helped me make a full freighter NipNip farm. I spent a long time there haha. I put the Coords on NMSPortals and Coord Exchange on reddit so anyone else in the area can check it out.

Thanks, that was my assumption but given the new text I thought I’d see if anyone who’s found a lot of them has noticed a center-related pattern. As I said above, I’m downright awful at portal-hunting.

Well done everybody for posting the sequence codes and assisting a nowhere-near-the-Galactic-Hub & retired traveller.
Was a simple cut and paste exercise but it’s always a thrill to join the chase when new info pops into our little group of Etarcian Researchers for us to leap on and dismantle.
(There’s a new title I just made up… ā€œEtarcianā€ā€¦feel free to hijack it  )
THANK YOU everyone :hugs:

I love that there is a shift to in-gameplay sourcing of info…perfect for NMS fans…but sadly I’m too far away and too frequently offline to be of much assistance.

Off-topic but relevant to a earlier post/discussion/comment.
I found something quite the opposite recently, Peccadillosar…
I’m currently at a planet with ZERO plutonium??? Never ever had that occur before. I thought every single planet had plutonium… even if sparse. A glitch perhaps?
Fortunately I have my freighter and large stocks of fuel and nearby planets to source fuel stocks so I can explore the ruins etc. and the land is largely flat so Rover use is very easy. Very odd.
And now back to regular programming…
