Games and Game-Related old and new

Hideo Kojima has a very anti America/anti imperialist/ anti war message running through all his games so the patriotic government types can be overly so. He also adores American culture and cinema so he’s certainly conflicted on the place. Sure aren’t we all?

I believe he started writing the games first draft in response to Trump and Brexit, everyone living in their own little echo chambers etc.

Honestly even if some of the messages are lost on the type of gamer who might need to hear it, getting that many gamers on board with looking after a baby is somewhat remarkable :stuck_out_tongue:

This game has a surreal aspect to it.
The cairn are actual players resting?
Were those actual players tossing me goods to defeat the first huge BT?
Or is the game giving me NPCs acting as supportive players?
Or is there a combination of both?
I am very confused.
My daughter is laughing because she says I am the only one she knows that is talking about the mechanics of the game and not the story…
And quite honestly, I am freaked out about hearing voices and he is constantly looking to see if he is watched…and it does indeed feel as if ‘players’ of one kind or another are watching me play.
I have experienced this in NMS on several occassion. It is unsettling to see a player suddenly appear then when you head towards them, poof! they go offline
And Bridges breaks the 4th wall a lot. Like he knows you are watching him along with how many others?

The players assisting you would be remnants of players who previously fought the boss and died, they throw you the gear they brought with them. If you died it’s possible your ghost will assist countless other players just like this in the future.

Yes cairns mark where players rest, and if you pee … Well you’ll see.

Everything you place, ladders, ropes, bridges etc, has the potential to appear in another player’s game and assist them, they can even leave a like so you know they used it.

You can also connect strands to other players whose stuff you’ve used and their stuff is more likely to show up going forward.

If you’ve lost any cargo down a deep valley or to a river current or just had to abandon it for safety, it will show up in another player’s game too and they can finish your delivery. You can find othe players lost cargo scattered in the wild where it was abandoned or stored at depots.

I love this non intrusive and helpful form of multiplayer. Feels very communal despite never physically interacting with a single soul.

Kojima is always breaking the fourth wall.

In metal gear solid on PS1, a boss reads your memory card and comments on other games you’ve played, they also ask you to lay your controller on the ground to demonstrate their psychic power. The controller vibrates and begins to move across the floor. Clever use of what was a new technology for console gaming at the time.

At one point you’re even told to check a screenshot on the back of the box to get a phone number. We rented metal gear solid the first few weeks so we had to call the video store and ask them to check the box for us :joy:

There’s lots of hidden Easter eggs in the resting room if you mess around with Sam and the camera. It’s definitely more overt this time, they have norman reedus make lots of eye contact with the player and do silly little things, it almost feels like it’s an extension of the actor reaching out to the player. Which fits in again with the games central theme on Connections or Strands.

They added a sunburn mechanic to the second game

I was outside for way too long

Don’t worry, the actors are right there with you

I’m unapologetically a Hideo Kojima fanatic since 1998 so I am forcing myself to stop now before I start pulling out slides and begining a seven hour lecture which is the first of a ten part lecture series and oh no it’s already starting somebody please stop me… *Turns on slide projector, clears throat. A distant bang is heard coming from the book depository *

Ok. The first bit I did not know. This makes sense in a way but, I did not die so I guess I won’t be around to help anyone…
I well remember the Metal Gear gimmick with the controller. That is where I first learned of Kojima.

Oh and how cool is it to see and hear the Bionic Woman in a game? I watched that show all the time as a kid and was often found standing near a group and pushing my hair behind my ear to eavesdrop :joy:
I told my daughter, “It’s Lindsey Wagner!!” She responded, who? “The Bionic Woman!” The what?, she asked…

Oh wow I actually didn’t notice that, and her likeness is used for her characters Daughter too, Amalie.

Kojima is such a fanboy :joy:

If he was a supervillain he’d be known as the collector.

“Please just step into my giant scanning booth. I want to digitize you, then make you eat grubs.”

I think the US Calister episode of black mirror was about Hideo Kojima :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe this was the last anyone saw or heard from Conan O Brien. The real one anyway. Not sure what to call that thing they put in his place. I think Android is not descriptive enough.

For the first half of the game during its initial release on PS4, those cans were monster energy drinks. I was sure Sam was going to have a heart attack

I have been losing track of time…it’s like timefall is raining inside my room. One minute it is 6pm and the next it is midnight.
If only I could pack up all the stuff around here that needs moving and load it onto my back…

I was dog sitting the weekend and got to play The Alters on a friend’s computer.

It’s a lot of fun, I think I’ll be picking it up when I finish Death Stranding 2.

Speaking of finishing Death Stranding 2, I finished the story last night. Still plan on spending time delivering and aiding other porters with repairs and constructions.

It had a really fun photo mode this time around, it even came with some pretty realistic lens distortion sliders that allowed for both amazing screenshots and hilarious ones.

I set the private room wall photo to one of lou from the first game so this cut scene with Sam, Fragile and Lou was a little distracting

Sams best angle with lens distortion

Bonus doggo

Still working on the first one. Will dive into the 2nd one soon after. With the unending heat ramping up and getting even worse, I will be spending a lot of time in game now.

Ok. The longest ending in any game ever…I won’t lie, I fell asleep a number of times during the Beach monologue.

I am completely confused but enjoyed the game regardless.

Hahahaha this gave me a good laugh. Its such a Hideo Kojima ending to be super long.

Im guessing you haven’t played Metal Gear: Guns of The Patriots if you think Death Stranding is long. Oh boy, you need to make sure to use the bathroom and get your food and drinks ready before you trigger the ending scene.

(Its a 71 minute long, continuous, ending cutscene that wraps up the franchise, apparently a world record. Thats as long as an actual movie lol)

For those who like PvE survival games, Grounded 2 is coming to early access next week, July 29th and feeling confident that its going to be a treat.

I played Grounded 1 from Early Access and it was a lot of fun despite being really really early access and the story wasn’t available yet. In the last few years, the devs really proved to care about their player base and making sure the game is fun, quality experience. Even allowing the players to set custom difficulties for those who wanted a chill experience or a hardcore one.

In a recent interview this week, they stated that Early Access in Grounded 2 is going to have significantly more content than Grounded 1 had in Early Access, even having the entirety of Act 1 of the story ready at EA launch.

Im not a big Early Access person, but Grounded is one of the very few games that im going to support in Early Access knowing that they actually listen to their player base and pretty quickly implement the suggestions.
