Games and Game-Related old and new

They’re just bitter that Betamax didn’t win the format wars. It truly was the superior tape. I blame Reagonomics

This games cutscenes scream “we used to work for TellTale Games before our CEO went crazy on collecting IP rights.” That or they’re just big fans

And College Debt? Nothing major? Pretty sure most of the Americans I know living in Ireland are hiding from their college debt or still dealing with the PTSD of it ’ ^ _^

I think Shadows Of Doubt may be the game for you. It’s cyberpunk, you’re a dectective, its a proc gen city where everyone has jobs, lives, relations, and those points of data sometimes murder or rob each other and thats where you come in.

Or you could just work a normal job in a bar, getting to know the residents and just never do cop stuff. It is one of the most immersive games I’ve ever experienced, I went full Rorschach on it. Smell is an active game mechanic XD

Also being made by one guy, Cole. His company is called Cole Powered Games <3

Theres some fun variation in the types of killers or crimes that can pop up in your town, theres even street tags with their own secret language and maybe a nefarious cult trying to awaken something? Who knows, I lost all my money at the casino and fell asleep in the penthouse I broke into when they stopped serving me at the bar… So I have no clue about any cult.

Also for an early access game I got on day one, it was very much already fully there. Not only that, the roadmap they set out, they’ve hit every one of their projected dates and then some. I don’t think I’ve seen an EarlyAccess game be that consistent, dude clearly knows how to plan and schedule. Which makes sense… considering the gameplay. You’d hope he’s good at that stuff or the games mechanics might suffer hahaha.

edit: I looked back on my original post about this and it looks like I already tried to push it on you based on post replies hahaha

toddumptious: lol. I looked at my previous answer to you above and it was almost the same as what I was about to respond, “But, but… these characters talk too much!” It gets full points in all other categories though.

See, I don’t want to be an angel, I want to be left alone by NPCs and not talk… If I wanted to talk, I’d go to work! That’s what I like about Minecraft and NMS and Space Engineers, no talking! :innocent:

Unfortunately, Night City is an extroverts playground. Noisy, bright, lots going on & endless conversations. Even the desert missions are noisy.
Good thing about a game is you can measure the dosage & turn it off once you’ve endured enough racket.
Pity we don’t have that option in real life…

I do get your desire for peace & quiet with an option for less babble. A playthrough version/option where there is minimal conversation requirements would be great.
Would work well for 3rd & 4th playthroughs too where the player has seen it all before & just wants to explore or just do missions.

Hopefully Light No Fire will be mostly peaceful.

No idea why I am still playing this after 6 years but I woke to this

It is actually a good thing though. You cannot play at all without an internet connection and that makes it impossible for many. However, I have made a few connections with other reliable players in my friends list. We gift and visit each other regularly even though there is no way to really communicate except thru stickers. Without the community connection…I don’t know. Waiting to see…

Meanwhile…me and Vasco trying out the new REV-8

If you’re a city builder, dungeon keeper or eldritch horror fan then this might be just the game for you. Warning, trailer features graphic imagery/interactive gore.

Vasco assured me he did not need any restraints while riding in the vehicle so I tested him out.

He said we were ignoring all safety protocol with every jump. Then he thanked me.

I presume everyone has seen the advertising for Hero Wars - it’s everywhere.

Is it just me, or does this thing look really cheap, and really weird (and not in a good way)?

The onslaught of rushed asset flip mobile/browser games has never truly let up, it just takes breathers now and then. I remember for a while there was games promising me big breasted women that was actually just a stripped back RTS using actual sprites from AOE XD I think the most egregious one was “her country needs you” and the count part of country was slightly bigger than the rest of the font.

It almost makes me nostalgic for crazy frog polyphonic ringtone ads. At least they weren’t hiding how annoying they were. AAAND you get access to all the hottest and latest ringtones for only One pounds ninety nine a month. And it will be IMPOSSIBLE to break out of. Impossible.

Still, better than being bugged by Hero Quest/ Any other game that is just legally above the definition of hot girl in your area enough to call itself a game and not a wallet vaccum.

I had my adblock off for a while back when youtube was causing it to go full on memory leak eaerlier in the year.

Started getting these ads for hero quest et al that were 15 minutes kong, that didnt auto skip, and its clearly some youtuber whose starting out and desperate for views but because they’ve done this 15 minute tutorial thats been pushed as an add for a shill company they’ve very likely already stabbed themselves in the foot.

It feels kinda like an MLM for marketing on youtube. They promise you traction when really you’re just gross and getting defriended.

If somebody is putting that much resources into marketing, what they got to sell is probably completely crap. I’d guess that it’s probably mostly a hollow shell with almost no development cost delivering in-app purchases entirely driven by marketing. It’s the only explanation for the amount of resources they are able to throw at marketing.
And yeah, they are certainly targeting the worst impulses of a specific audience. Those adds are just horrible.

Some of the worst I’ve seen are these very 90s lookin cg ads that I guess purports to be the games graphics, and its like “super dope mafia boss player” and itll show a scenario where a bad player loses points because they show empathy to the rival boss’s wife, and then it like shows how you, the person watching, would know how to play this better or something to that effect.

It’s all very Andrew Tate. That’s the only direct reference I have for how gross I feel after seeing one '

Something like this. Something very much like this

I have already paid for 2 games not yet out…
The new Zelda where I get to play as Zelda, finally. And Indiana Jones, which I hope I do not regret.

Don’t remind me of long/dumb mobile game ads, I had repressed the memory. I now switch to Opera to watch YouTube (logged off), it catches most dumb ads. There is a tipping point where the ads are so disruptive or annoying that even an originally supportive and monetisation-aware audience doesn’t come back anymore to watch the rest after an ad break… :person_shrugging: They haven’t died out yet though. They are the descendants of “ring tone subscriptions” (which have died out).

Hear me out, babies are to blame! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Parents put a tablet in front of them and they click what’s noisy and colourful and cartoonish. Maybe they even accidentally click the buy link. That’s why the advertisers’ metrics show these are the most successful! Here, I solved the mystery.

To spare you the ads, here is a screenshot. And you know most of these had to have ads involved. Click the ad. Get a special deal.

Whut. I thought I was joking!! Truth is stranger than fiction.

Advertisers lying to investors who are not tech savvy and probably dinosaurs? And fluffing the numbers to make your product seem more popular than it is? I don’t think that happens. Ever :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been long convinced gamepass is secretly just a way to make MS’s attach rate seem better on paper for investors and the board etc. Even if a person with gamepass doesn’t play the game they’re still counted towards its statistics.

You can see this in action by looking at a game thats on all platforms, and then look at the “achievement” players unlocked percentages and compare them. An early achievement on Steam/Playstation might show as 70-80 % players unlocked, on MS that could be 20% due to the amount of players who “own” it but never actually played it for more than a second.

My verdict on Gamepass has not changed since I first heard about it. Bad for developers, good for investors, gamers are gonna be split.

I did hear recently though that they’ve changed GamePass so all those “day one on gamepass” xbox exclusives are no longer day one game pass. Guess MS realised nobody was buying their games beforehand, and even less are buying them now because they got them free with the sub they paid so they could play FIFA and COD online XD

It’s one of those, I’m joking consciously but only because my subconscious ran the calculus and knows it’s happened at least once.

I still remember my very first day on the internet. I want to say it was 1996. There was a banner at the top of the page. Catch the monkey, win money. I caught that monkey. It was so easy. These idiots are gonna lose so much money.

It wanted a credit card. Luckily nobody in Ireland except the High Kings had Credit Cards and debit card acceptance online was still a good decade and a bit away. So my mams bank account was safe.

Haven’t trusted a monkey since.

You know what the only reason was that spared me from clicking these gamified ads as a kid? They used to be styled like Windows 95 windows. You know, so they’d appear familiar to the user. We had a Mac. They looked exceptionally unfamiliar and suspicious to us! :joy:

Click bait headlines aside (excluding it to just 2024 so you can use the word Worst in your title etc) theres some worrying things to be found therein.

It sounds like they ran into the same problem with open world that Alan Wake did; it got in the way of the pacing of the linear story they wrote.

Except instead of throwing the open world out the window like Remedy did, it seems they’ve just made it very restrictive, you have to put the toys back in to the box before leaving the area.

Also it seems like bad stealth sections may be the games biggest offence.

I saw the min specs for this, and it was pretty crazy, but it sounds like it’s certainly not worth the upgrade.

Personally I wasn’t really paying much attention to Star Wars Outlaws. There hasn’t been a good SW game for me personally since Kyle Katarn hung his sabre on the mantle, and when I first saw this game announced my only thought was “Oh, So thats what happened to BG&E2”.

I was hoping to pick this up on sale at some point but I may just wait for it to be patched clean too.

A friend of mine with a pretty decent PC ( gtx 1080 ti, still going strong) was planning on upgrading after seeing the min spec for this but I might just tell em to hold off for now :stuck_out_tongue:

Well no shit geniouses!
God damn it, 40 years ago starflight and Ultima essentially defined what open-world storytelling needs to look like and how it works, and the concept was essentially brought to perfection in Star control II, but noooooo, we insist on our dumb linear stories because cinematics and stuff.

God damn it, AAA studios just go on my nerves. The last AAA game I bought for full price was KOTOR (no, not the online one), and it doesn’t look like that’s ever going to change again.

I hear they’re remaking KOTOR. I don’t see how they could mess that up so you might have a new purchase to look forward to. Granted, they’ll probably screw it up somehow. Pre order season passes and golden guns most likely :joy:

Or Disney might be like, this and this no longer fit the Disney star wars vibe so change em. I can’t see that happening at all but, fool me once game industry…

In case you just want to build a cute little country chateau without any worries about anyone needing to be fed or money running out and the villagers burning you at the stake, this is the sim for you.
Comes with fluffy little sheep you can pet and sometimes they grab an umbrella and float across your estate…
Tiny Glade. Free demo out now.
No instructions. Just start placing and make sure to play around with the placements and size adjusters. I was surprised by how much variation I got out of just a few pieces.

The full game will feature a much bigger area. Demo was very limited in size.

The community that is starting to form around this game, is already building amazing things and they don’t even have all the parts yet.
For some reason, I just cannot stop.
Pushed some of the bounds of the demo. Won’t let me go any higher in demo mode…

I accidentally sent my camera inside…
