Expeditions 6 - Blighted

wow…transporter accidents do happen…at least it wasn’t a leg.

Oh, man! That’s depressing. I guess I need to remember to make more hard saves too. :face_holding_back_tears:

Aaaand done. This was a fun one, very few grindy objectives.
Taking on all those sentinels for that unimpressive B-class pistol was definitely not worth it though. As I can see, you need a pretty decked out multitool already to make it this far, so they might as well give you something actually useful at the pillar…

Sentinel Weirdness

I was minding my own business, collecting frostwort on a planet with no sentinels.

Then I was attacked by the sentinels that aren’t there.

I know, I know… You’re thinking poor old Poly is losing it in his old age. But study this next shot carefully.

See the text box, lower left? The one that says “sentinels - none”? Now look at the middle of the picture - you see those fuzzy red blobs? Well they are sentinels - invisible ones. They turn into proper sentinels when they spot you. See the top right of the picture? The red star says there’s a level 1 sentinel alert - despite there being no sentinels.

This is what the fuzzy red blobs turn into. And they’re angry. Despite the fact that they don’t exist.

See the top right of this picture. It’s now gone to a level 3 alert.

I tried hiding in a building, but the alert wouldn’t clear. I waited 5 minutes, but the 3 star alert was still showing. Luckily, I had built a base with a teleporter, so I teleported to another system. When I came back, the alert had cleared, and the sentinels had gone.

Beware, Travellers! There is much strangeness going on!

My guess: By the time The Blighted expedition ends, a good number of the bugs will have been fixed. ::rofl:

There, there Poly.
You go lay down now.
It’s been a long day & its time for your nap. Here’s your prune juice.

There is something weird going on in experimental. Lots of flashing parts. NPCs blinking in and out of existence, base parts not wanting to generate…I had one base sink into the ground so I raised it. Now it is floating above the ground…

I have problem I hope someone can help me with: I cannot recruit a pilot. When I try, the game tells me my squadron is full. I have built an extra command room in my freighter, and I’ve sold all the ships I’d stumbled onto for scrap. So, I have three of my own ships, and six frigates, and two Command rooms.

I have tried to recruit from all faction, and from all ship types. What knots do I have to twist myself into to be able to recruit a pilot? I’m rapidly going bald from frustration with this.

@TravelEcho
Go to your frigate control terminal at the front of the bridge in your Command Ship.
Here you can open up the Squadron option. It will cost nanites to open each slot (total of 4 slots) which allows you to recruit.

The option to recruit should pop up (sometimes) when interacting with ship pilots

When recruiting, you will encounter various ‘skill types’ from C to S. Ive not really noticed a difference.
I did find that ‘pointy’ fighters get in your way less than ‘solar sail’ ships during dog fights.

Hope this helped.

@Mad-Hatter You are a sanity saver (well… what’s left of my sanity!)

I thought it meant I was to build another command room. Sheesh! lol

Thank you so very much! <3

More questions, about warping to the core:

May be Spoilers:

Do we really have to traverse the whole galaxy to get to the core and then to the next galaxy? Or is there a shortcut through a portal or something? Maybe someone has built a base nearby?
And should I switch to a ship that I don’t mind getting damaged before I go through?
And will my freighter come through with me?

I have only done this once (waaaaay back) and my ship was very damaged by the warp journey, and iirc, the contents of my inventory as well?

I hope you can help. Thanks!

You can’t switch galaxies through a portal. But for explored galaxies, you will usually find some portal coordinated for a star close to the center.
Switching to and forth between galaxies you already visited is relatively easy using bases.
You might get lucky and find another players base in another galaxy to visit.
Other than that, if you’re in a galaxy that hasn’t been explored yet, nobody built a base and nobody noted some portal coordinate… yeah, you’ll have to do the long treck.

Freighters do hop galaxies with you, though.

First off, for the expedition, all you need to do is follow the story. It will be okay.
Outside of the expedition: BlackHoles damage your ship but going to another galaxy does not.
There is definitely a shortcut method for traversing galaxies. The idea I have read says that HG put this shortcut method in for those of us determined to get to the center of everything.
Most galaxies have an automatic shortcut that immediately warps you to the area near the center. You then need only make a few jumps to reach the center and onward to the next galaxy. However, this does not work in every galaxy. For those galaxies, you locate a portal and then enter a very specific portal address. It is the same no matter which galaxy you are in. That will take you to a system near the center. I do not remember the portal address off hand but will look it up when I get home.
I have used both these methods to traverse all galaxies up to 80 something

Ahhh… That actually makes a lot of sense!

I’m confused. Are you asking in regards to Expedition 6 or just in general?

My bad. You do get a broken ship and suit from changing galaxies… :upside_down_face: Been so long since I jumped I forgot. I am working on a thread for this procedure, (which I just tested since it has been a while) will link to it as soon as it is ready.
and here it is

Sorry… I assumed since this was the thread for Expedition 6, so I wasn’t explicit enough. So yes. for Expedition 6. (Thanks for asking!)

I thought maybe the portal I went through –the one that the pirates had hacked, possibly took me close to the centre? But my freighter didn’t follow me so I went back through, thinking maybe it was to give us just a bit of pirate lore. I have been warping in my freighter ever since and still have 690K+ to go and it is getting tedious.

Mal and I started this Expedition late due to more than one 2- to 3-day power outages here, And so far I am not enjoying this expedition as much as the previous ones. I want to build my base, make a home, explore, take photos, not fight pirates and sentinels all the time. (pardon my whining) But I also want to complete it (Yay, completionists! >.> ) and that as quickly as possible. I only have this milestone and the last one left to do.

I’m wondering if I should portal back to the Aktsahiro system where that portal was that I went through (and came back through) if it was the shortcut ? And I should go back through it again and start warping to the centre from there?.

You should be able to call in your Freighter. I never even fixed the warp core in my Freighter and it still came when I called. and yes, this is the Exp 6 thread (for those wondering, I fulfilled all of the travel to a blue, green, red star in my ship. Never used my freighter. Still counted towards the missions)

Tech in tech slots doesn’t break, however, so it’s not that bad.
