I actually dislike this. Just like season 2 of the community missions (the disappearance of what’s the name in the anomaly), there is no way for new players to experience this if they missed it.
So it’s like it never happened.

Not only do we get to see them up close but like Dune we get to ride them ?) That is freeking awesome to the Quintilionth degree
Alas I have a slow connection and live in Hawaii so I will be checking out the update in a few hours from now But I will be there
Reality being reset, as if it never happened, is at least a theme in this game. Truth is, all MMO do the same thing, they have these regular events where “the capital gets destroyed” and “everyone has to defeat the dragon” 48 times per day,and one day after the event there is not the tiniest dragon footprint to be found…
I would prefer if there were remnants (like small trophies or wreckages or decorations) for each expedition story to be found inside the Anomaly, that newbies could find and that contain a note for them to read up on the story.
But this minor nitpick aside, I am looking forward to it (even if I won’t jump in today)… When I saw Sean’s tweet I realised, that this is their variant of scifi “Halloween”.
Oh, and the music in the trailer, this “doo doo doom”, has been inthe game for a while, I recorded the start screen tunes to have my very own soundtrack, and this is one of them. But now the startscreen music is muted and I can’t record anymore.
Ah. The joy of fiber. Cable that is.
I have opened the first 2 Worm Skin Folios and hidden them in the top post.
And beware of over-crowded space stations. I got trapped within the station walls and attacked by pirates at the same time…
Well, I really don’t know about this one. It could all be epic and great, but for some reason HG decided that taking a worm burrow should just be another chore instead of an epic fight. It’s literally just shooting fish in a barrel. I’m getting annoyed at my multitool for running out of ammo so fast, but not because it would put me in a difficult situation, no, merely because it draws out an already pointless activity.
How do you spend all this work and then screw this up so badly? Do none of them ever play the game?
Is that in game screenshot? I’m getting massive white pixelated fringing around the worms, with the smoke and dust. No mods. Doesn’t look great.
Yes. In game. I am on PC. Mid-range graphics.
Edit; ( Later on, I did notice some of the white edges in certain areas and in certain light on the large flying sandworm. But not on the ground worms)
Completed. So some may not be too happy but I thought it was fun. And anyone who says the ground worms don’t hurt you, just hasn’t gotten close enough. They will spit poison and bite your head off. They just need a larger range.
All in all, I enjoyed it! Especially the worm-infested planets.
Good grief, did you finish at 3.15 am or something?!
Ahh… early retirement. Even though I’m poor at the moment, more blessing than curse for me. I can be an artist, writer, musician, philosopher, citizen scientist, or just a lazy bum. Hopefully by midnight…
I saw a worm getting chased off to space by another players ship yesterday…
That is, the worm either got destroyed or despawned before reaching space, but that is clearly where it was heading…
Well, lucky you. May ship went straight through a shelter… (at least I didn’t need to wonder why it was broken…)
Thanks. I’ve turned on adaptive mutlispampling in the AMD graphics page and no longer get the fringing as bad. It was on multisampling before.
Well I’m finished!
About 7 hours including a bit of messing about.
My start was a horrible, crevasse littered location. Quite dangerous with minimal gear & low visibility.
Once I got established, I flew back & handed out batteries to those I crossed paths with while hunting for bones, although I found the rest of the planet was more hospitable than my start location.
Those storms are hard in a basic suit though!
Was a fun experience, if possibly a little anti-climactic, given the end result was told.
I did like the burrows, (even if they were a bit tame). I just cooked the wrigglers with my spec-ed up mining laser.
Got lucky & chanced across a few Drop Pods & just spent most of my acquired money (from grabbing Storm Crystals) on ship slots.
I learnt that Larval Cores can be refined into 50 nanites each. Good to know.
Given this save won’t be kept, I was continually giving away S Modules & Augmentation Slots to other travellers.
Another fun addition to my NMS ‘did it’ collection.
Did everyone start with a scatter blaster? The super-charged effectiveness of it was a bit too much. Had we started with a minimal weapon and only a couple of worms and then beefed the weapon up for a gradual increase in worms, I think that would have made the experience a bit more intense.
Many of the twitter responses show that people like a less grindy, quick approach to these expeditions. Mostly just wanting the rewards. I enjoyed it though.
So far, I’m enjoying it. Taking my time, building some bases, building up my cash and abilities. There’s no hurry.
I’m not at all sure what’s going on - the lore doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense - but I suppose there’s no requirement that it should. Nature doesn’t make a lot of sense, either.
An interesting little interlude - if a bit confusing.
No… Mine was a blue & yellow (short) rifle with (I think): A Visor, Scanner & mining Laser. I believe I had build to the Bolt Caster & Terrain Manipulator but can’t properly remember now.
Ship was a terrible ‘C’ yellow, boxy hauler.
Character was almost exactly the same Korvax I got last expedition.
Having sort of speed-run this one due to personal time restrictions, I can say that it is a better Expedition to take your time with.
I’d have preferred to design my character a bit, built a freighter base, if not a planetary base & generally taken a couple of weeks with it. The end result doesn’t warrant pushing fast.
I have 3 saves already (2 normal, 1 permadeath) & I just don’t want another save so I was content just to plough through it like a BIG weekend event while I had the time to spare.
