Expedition 12 - Omega (Spoilers)

Ah yes, datamining …, #TotallyNotHacking

I hope it doesn’t mean Light No Fire will be announced as a timed Xbox exclusive…

I’d be okay with that. Teach Playstation a lesson for all the times it has done it.

Honestly I wish both would fuk off with exclusives.

I believe Microsoft are the king of timed exclusivity. Sony is the king of first party exclusives, of which I’ve no complaints, unparalleled IP and care given.

For those who’ve done the experimental expedition, what rare goods should a traveller pack for the trip? I’ve already put in an extra pair of socks. (On the way home to boot up the expedition)

The most useful things I brought were my multi tool and my ship. I wish I’d brought my personal refiner mk2, Saved time farming certain materials.

Things I wish I’d brought back to my main:

Freighter tech modules, starship upgrades.

I did bring back all the inventory upgrades I earned, and they worked once I went to the proper upgrade location.

Figured it out. My previous Iteration forgot that those upgrades have to be used at specific terminals, not installed from your inventory screen.

Didn’t play it on experimental, but just finished Phase 1. So far what I’ve found is that if you’re starting from your main save and want to copy your ship and multitool (uses whatever you had equipped when using the terminal at the anomaly), you’ll want to bring something you can refine or sell worth at least 5,000 nanites, since you have to pay whilst in the expedition to claim copies of your gear.

For gear, don’t bother bringing any starship or multitool upgrades if you’re going to copy from your main (unless you’ve going to sell them for nanites), just focus on exosuit tech like movement and/or shields.

I packed some planetary charts for exosuit upgrades, alien structures, and sentinels. Wish I’d packed an echo locator as well (got excited and was rushing to start, lol ).

Beyond that, I’d suggest maybe a stack of stasis devices for early cash and maybe a couple stacks of NipNip buds (but don’t sell them right away). Use the other cargo copy slots for things like warp cells, tritium, and whatever other resources you want.

Thanks guys, loaded up on goods and heading for the nexus. Also bringing along some void motes and atlantideum juuuust in case  Oh and repair units, to avoid wasting any resources on any fixes that might be needed.

I have updated the Milestones and Rewards :top:

Pretty much still the same, just a few textual edits.

Some useful info we’ve been working on in the Discord (subject to change):

This is me right now. Want to at least get all the critters before I leave RV 1. Hunslowe is a very pretty planet with nice big mountains and incredibly deep chasms (found one that was narrow like a never ending Well too, just kept falling.)

Lot’s of large vast cave systems too that open into nice big areas or spill out in to large openings cutting through generated buildings. Should be no problem I thought… FOund 2 of the 3 underground creatures. Just havent found the right labyrnth yet I guess. An hour in now, might just continue to Phase 2 and come back later.

If I find a cave with all 3 I will return with coords and hope it works for others too <3

What would you recommend as the preferred way to start for someone who hasn’t played NMS for awhile?

I’m leaning towards starting a new save, since I don’t have a current save to which I’m particularly attached. The new save start seems simpler and less likely to have issues. Also, I don’t mind if it takes a bit longer to complete the expedition. On the other hand, if there’s some compelling reason for me to start with an existing save, I’d be happy to hear about it.

This will be the first time I’ve played NMS since TravelEcho departed. We always loved playing the expeditions at the same time, in parallel, sharing our experiences. Singularity (10) was the last one we did together, and I skipped Voyagers(11) entirely. I hope to play now and hold near the many joyful memories of cosmic adventures we had together.

(Possibly too much information: The Echoes update came out while TravelEcho was in the hospital. I read the release notes aloud to her in their entirety, as she slipped in and out of awareness. The final game-related news we shared. :sob: )

I played on a new save in experimental and it went smoothly. There’s nothing too difficult about this expedition.
The starting planet is quite beautiful.

I am starting Omega using an existing save that only had 11 minutes on it. Work and home had kept me away from the game.

Actually, this expedition seems to be perfect for that. I’m not far in, but as far as I can tell until now it seems to be a genuine alternative game start where you start with a different character background.
I don’t have a “main save” anyways…

I started from my existing ‘Pirate Save’ which in itself was an older expedition game. (I only have 2 saves and my other one is my original ‘Legacy Save’ so I avoid risking it following bigger updates).
I followed @sheralmyst & @toddumptious’ advice & packed a few goodies (mostly survival type materials) & some extra ‘S’ modules to sell for nanites for ‘cloning’ main-game equipment.
I also made sure I had the MT & Ship I wanted to use before committing at the Anomoly.

Its an easy expedition & found myself near the end surprisingly quickly. I even took time out to search a derelict freighter & have a big gravity bouncing biff with sentinels on an airless world.
Glancing through the other milestones helped me get things done quickly by doing a bit of everything as I travelled.
Only bug I encountered was my ship getting stuck in the ground & needing me to ‘hover’ by jetpack to allow access.
Looking forward to hunting down a pirate dreadnaught once I get back to ‘normal’.

I may have spent way too long scanning every creature, plant and rock I could in RV1 system, to help with the goal, before I realised it just wanted the RV planet .

Neeaarly done.

Speaking of, RV 1 research finished just as I was logging off last night. Will be very happy with all this quicksilver once I’m back to my main <3

I cant wait to see the steam analytics when the free players join  Also I have a feeling they may increase the amount of research needed by players to advance the research phases to account for the sudden surge, at the rate it’s going, with a bunch of free players this research will be completed by Sunday XD

I’m in a dillema with the pirate dreadnaught. It looks cool, and I want it. But I’m 800 hours into this current save (started it during lockdown) and grown very attached to the crappy C class the game presented me with on the third jump all that time ago. I don’t know if I can say goodbye to it </3

Maybe I’ll have to take a leaf out of your book and start a Pirate save @Mad-Hatter

I’ve also been trying to convince myself to start a new vr-only playthrough, I never got back to the one I started on PSVR (was in permadeath mode ;0; ). VR Pirate? I like the sound of that. I’ll try capture a video of me failing and regretting the challenge should I rise to it.

I don’t know why I didn’t think to try this when the Atlas multitools acquired at monoliths were introduced, but for anyone else who may need to hear it: You can double-up on mining beams with the new staff just like you can with the sentinel multitools.
