I have been doing what some one suggested and have been labeling my planet planet name (etarc) so people know it is us lol
Iâd prefer to have the CSD in there in some fashion as a a little homage to HG and our ARG (and itâs just cool to have the Citizen Science Divsion in there in some fashion imo). Even if itâs just optional ETARC (CSD) or something like that).
My only problem right now is that the CSD name is all over the place. CSD is incredibly splintered, and thereâs already 3 different CSD hubs being created right now (that iâm aware of). My attempts to reach out to them and try to unite all of CSD towards one common goal where met with either indifference or straight up hostility & ridicule. Some of them are spearheaded by pretty selfish people who are more interested in getting their name out there and making some claim to fame than making a true community effort like weâre trying to achieve here.
Maybe, just maybe, weâre better off just using ETARC to prevent confusion.
Well, I was a supporter of ECSD. But in light of what you just said, I think we should just stick to Etarc.
How about we tag system with (ETARC) and planets with the division you working for at the time, say (CSFD).
example
system: (ETARC) SirOopsIsJustTheBest
planet: (CSFD) OkIIsJustTry
We really need to draft a poll, and vote. People are eager to start claim and Tagging.
Thatâs an idea I can get behind!
Another issue, we need a Category, at least one called âCommunitiesâ, or something. @oldgods
Can we Just throw [ETARC HUB] in front of our topics for now?
And if we see anyone else with a topic about our hub, we could ask them to do the same?
That sounds good @Sir_oops!
I think that SlowRiot4NuZero already asked for the âETARCâ category. To preserve a âquietâ place for our community
Got an idea in using ETARC name. Why not in NMS using ETARC as a acronym for:
Explorer
Tactical
And
Research
Congregation / Center / Community
Well, you got the idea. That way you get rid of âCSDâ naming pb. Just attached ETARC as an independant CSD branch.
Community sounds better in that acronym I like it!
ETARC is there, CSFD is there, we can use the names we want. Perfect. It might need some tweaking for use in the hub, but this looks solid to me.
Do we even need a separate designation for Frontiers and so forth divisions?
Can we all just collectively be ETARC? Only the very large companies have different names to their branches and divisions.
I vote for keeping it simple, lets walk before we can run and reel our egoâs in a bit. We are not large enough to have two dedicated divisions yet.
When working for a company your job title and department is enough differentiate between roles. The only division that should be present now is PC and PS4 as they are not compatible and have separate playing fields.
Two divisions would also force people into a certain playing style and NMS is all about freedom right?
I 2nd that
Yup it should just be ETARC. Sure weâll have the ETARC frontiers division but they donât need to tag their designation, theyâll be in different galaxys so that more or less will give the implication this area was settled by frontiersmen.
Every player of NMS is part of the CSD. That goes without saying, itâs a way to identify the players. Like Firefly has Browncoats, NMS has Citizen Scientists.
During waking titan Citizen Scientists were spread out amongst a vast array of communities, and that wonât change really even with the arrival of the CSD forums, it wonât be everyones home. There will be an influx of new people once HG make the change and point people this way, so itâs best to preserve whoâs here now, those who witnessed and understand ETARC and what it and Emily stood for.
The importance of us Identifying as ETARC and just ETARC is to carry the memory and vibe of this place after it transforms.
Formally weâll be the ETARC branch of the Citizen Scientists Division of the Atlas Foundation.
I think including ETARC in the star name should be the only requirement. That should be enough to identify us.
Beyond that, players should decide what to name their findings. If you want to include what resources are available, or special landmarks, etc. you can. If you want to add CSD/CSFD thatâs your choice. Keep it simple, but leave room for creativity.
And I think that covers most peopleâs wishes.
Letâs put it to a vote, and set it in stone.
The following should be a poll about star naming (my first attempt ).
Edit: It worked, awesome. This question probably deserves its own topic, so letâs call this an âunofficialâ poll. Cast your vote and let me know if the poll need improvements.
Which identifier should we use when naming stars? Note: this will be for stars only.
- ETARC
- CSD/CSFD
- Both

What about including ECSD?
Separates ETARC member finds from other various CSD finds but is short and should be ok for the auto dictionary to remember.
Maybe keep the actual ETARC name for hub systems.
I also think we should have our claim name/acronym at the endâŚafter the chosen name.
Eg.
Kaleidoscope Spires ECSD.
So, include ECSD as an option. Maybe include a second poll for where the title will be in the name?
