I’m planning on a little exploration mission, originally to find a nice big frieghter but now this new email that’s come to light I will try to incorporate it, it’ll probably be a five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilisations; to boldly go where no traveler has gone before

Well, that’s one way to look at it, I guess. I started a new game with every single update so far to get the most out of the experience, so I don’t really mind either way. I’ll be restarting in any case.

My thoughts:
1.) I’ve been thinking like a programmer and those “dead” planets always looked like place-holders to me. If there are any new planets, they may just be placed where the dead planets went. You can’t really make a base on them(atleast, it doesn’t seem like that was the intention) so no one would cry about their base being relocated or “ruined”. As for rings, they can just add that to any planet wothout doing a reset. Adding features to the planets shouldn’t effect your base either since bases are now built on a sort of flat platform to avoid future updates to the game effecting your home.
2.) The email from HG may want to know specific coordinates because they may do something in that area. Perhaps a HG-created HUB for everyone. My other thoughts are that maybe they want to employ a special server set aside for public hot-spots only(such as a specific region in the galaxy or a few designated planets) so there can be more than the assumed 4 players in these areas. This would keep costs of running servers down.
Just my 2-cents.

I had been planning on getting back to Euclid one day… and these are only half of my ships. Curiously yesterday I met a Korvax agent who said to me, “Eheu! the fabled traveller comes to aid us!” I think he knew something LOL
I’d better dig out my old log books

They ask for the coordinates, pictures and give the option to be credited for the discovery. If they are going to reseed in a destructive way they wouldn’t need the coordinates. This could mean that they want a list of places that they should protect from a reseed, but then they really wouldn’t need the crediting and descriptions. More likely they are creating a travel atlas for new (and current) players, either on the web or possibly in game. Euclid is popular for the players that like to gather in hubs, and for the new players. I’m betting on travel brochures.

I hope to see Hello Games increase this initiative and start a site for documenting locations and their benefits where gamers can find everything from hubs to gear and farms and so on but not just for Euclid but the other four galaxies where players can go to after Euclid as well. Create filters for game update(like 1.3 or 1.5), galaxy, and various benefits…along with platform where relevant like farms/bases to visit.
True but, the e-mail also said they wanted our memories…it could be a ‘last look’ before it all changes…it’s all tinfoil…time will tell.

I had a hard drive crash a little over a 1 years ago all my photos/screen shots were mostly wiped out.
I have the HD someday I am going to donor drive it and see if I can spin it up one last time to copy these things out.
Sadly though I have moved to the next universe on my main save, and have been there for a long time.
I might have some old Steam Screen shots that were still from back then though.

Given the major features we know for a fact are incoming like ringed planet and the highly likely ones like gas giants I’d be shocked if there isn’t a full stop universe reset with the release of NEXT.

No…because those are not locations and things the wider NMS community would or could see…whatever comes out of this that they end up showing to everyone will not be things that can’t be seen by everyone when they go there.

I submitted this oddball of a planet I found. Listed weather is "Memories of Frost. The camera can’t do it justice. The landscape is dotted with shattered mirror pillars.

Yeah that’s what I figured. I do hope HG has taken notice however to the spectacular worlds possible with mods, and made the necessary adjustments for NEXT. Judging by the new creature sounds, I think we’re in for some big surprises.
After playing NMS with mods such as the Rayrod’s Overhaul Immersion update, I honestly have a hard time going back to vanilla. I do understand that a vanilla game is the only way that multiplayer is going to work though, that is, unless all active parties are running the same exact mod(s).
I guess what I’m trying to say, with my off-topic chatter here, is that I have nothing to submit!

I think they are giving themselves and us too little time to be looking at a preservation scheme… I believe it’s what says in the title; A celebration of memories.
The coordinates are needed for them to check something they might like, (Old builds are not locked for them) but for the players, explorers and interlopers… a reset is coming.
