Base Building

Some questions for the l33t pro builders.

Is there a way to get the last used building part(s) selected without scrolling through the whole list again? Or a “block picker” that I point at a placed part to get another copy of the same?

And is there an undo command in base building? In some games, lacking undo, you save before each non-trivial click, and then reload the last save. I guess that approach works in NMS too, or is there a better practice?

I’m not even glitch building, I just casually try to make new shapes by overlapping. Without Blender, positioning them is of course slippery.

Then I use my “favourite” command, Z C X (feels like “escape-meta-alt-control-shift!”) and place it again until I randomly reach the right spot. Then I turn around and the room is half empty… And the whole floor below me has been missing for an unknown number of minutes… The last save method doesn’t help here. :person_facepalming: The GUI doesn’t indicate how things attach to each other, does it…?

I am not a keyboard player. On controller, There is a copy button. It should show in the build menu. However, I think it does not copy position? I can’t remember…
And yes, there is an issue when overlapping pieces. If you delete one piece, it may grab the pieces it is touching. It seems to have gotten worse during this expedition.
The only undo that works is the cancel button but that only works before deleting the piece. If you pick one up to move it, you can ‘back out’ and it will snap back to where it was. But if you have already deleted it, it is too late.
An undo button has been needed for a long time.

Does the CSD have a planet in game?

Would love to join a capital planet

We did, but the universe reset trashed it.

This was our home/hub, a very lengthy star chain.

Due to many unfortunate incidents, like lurkers going there and naming most of the systems with eye sore names when the glyphs were made public, and our home systems planet becoming an ugly infested planet after the second big universe biome re-jig, it’s not really that active anymore.

I made a return recently to lay down a fishing chain of sorts. You’re welcome to visit and build if you wish to

Not sure if the glyphs are in that thread but I’ll return with them and edit this post when I find em.

We’ve always been a somewhat nomadic bunch and tend to play solo so we don’t meet up and hang out all that often, it’s one of the commonalities that brought and kept our little group together on this forum for so long. But occasionally we feel sociable and get together now and then. Once every 4 years, or so the legends say :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit:

The hub was set up initially when each platforms universe was seperated, which meant console players would only see console player builds, and pc players would only see pc player builds. Waypoint merged all the platforms into one universe so I think there were some hiccups related to that too.

But here are the glyphs

I built a shrine in the star chain. As @Polyphemus stated, the actual capital planet was moved. There used to be comms floating in space where the planet once was…
But here is the shrine

Beware of spitting larva, giant sandworms and this

Our beginnings are cursed and most of the planets have been claimed by others but there are a few bases still to be seen

Dang that sucks, was hoping to have a base beside you guys. In light of the new ARG we should build a skyscraper on a new capital lol

There has been some discussion on this topic… But we are like sloth

Yes attempts were made to find a new place when purple systems arrived, but as is commonplace with NMS and IRL, so easy to get sidetracked by endless activities and side quests

It’s not just that. In the early versions of NMS, it was really hard to meet anyone. You were only allowed one base, you could only build on designated sites, and you had to travel everywhere by ship (with minimal navigation).

In those days, it made sense to have a central meeting point.

Now we can meet anywhere, at any time. We can have as many bases as we like, and we can travel freely between them. It’s easy to find people now - so, (curiously), we don’t bother.

In the meantime, feel free to build near my Cash 4 Trash base that I built during the trash expedition. :joy: It is a snowy planet. Maybe some others will move in too.

I was going to share my base at the end of Euclid but the whole system has been stolen by someone else…
I chose this site because there is an Archive very near, beyond that a trash depot and beyond that a crashed Freighter.

Restated (again) last week so as soon as I get my glyphs back I’ll be right there lol.
