Ah yes. If you scroll you may be scrolling thru the variants. I play with a controller so I am not certain.
The ones that continually drive me the most nuts are the "Small/Short Alloy Wall B"s! According to the icons they appear to be distinctly different parts that would be very useful, but instead just build very minor variants of the “A” version.
I didn’t realise the Distant Worlds website had interviewed this builder (or interviewed any builders for that matter), but I am familiar with and have visited some of their builds.
It is strange reading their journey because a similar experience during an expedition is what also drew me to trying out the base building software alternatives (I use the stand alone app, rather than the blender plug-in)
I think this was the first of their bases I visited, almost certain was shared here by @sheralmyst
I also did not know this was a thing… it only started yesterday. Yesterday, a year ago. I forgot we were in 2025
6 week long pilgrimage through some of the communities greatest builds and sites, sounds like fun
I wish I had the patience to build like that.
They say the same thing about glitch building in the interview not for them. Stand tall with yr glitchy know how sheral
Don’t they have a Blender plugin that let’s them use the game’s shapes to create the build, and export it in the right format?
Hmm. Stray thought. With my desire to avoid threats and for protection …
I’d love a holographic or slide open doorway that was wide enough for at least the shorter Exocraft. Effectively a “garage door” that offered hazard protection from elements and sentinels.
Did we not have a garage door at one time?
Wait @Clemm was saying one that fits the Exocrafts. The last time I built with those it was when they were introduced. I think there was only one kind of material. And I remember exocraft did not fit. Was that the pilgrim. I think I got one to fit by changing the ground under it and there wasn’t a floor, but then there was a gap. I’ll have to go see. I can’t glitch but could you put two sideways 1/4 into ground opening away from each other.
Anywho I second this, I want to put one in a cave entrance.
I think you have to have a small wall size space under it for a Nomad to get through.
I avoid them because I’m too lazy to hook up the sensor and power invertors so they open automatically on approach.
I would have said I first and last used the NMS Base Building app maybe a year ago but according to the saved scene files that was actually almost 2 years ago. I built a Vy’Keen Amphitheatre and a Gek First Spawn Conversion Centre for Korvax for a themed build system
Since cross plays release I’ve been meaning to tinker with bringing a console base over to PC and adding some details I would only find painful to pull off via normal or glitch building methods.
I guess I never returned to it because of the stop start nature of hybrid building and losing that creative flow in the breaks while transferring from app, back to save editor, and into game loading screen for testing, in-game additions and re-exporting, ad nauseum.
But the hybrid approach of “build a little in game, go crazy in app, bring back to game to check and test” is worth it because I would never have the patience to do something like this without it.
Building a rickety bridge for a certain something The tiles/hanging lights were placed in game so I have an idea of the grounds layout in the app.
If anyone has a PC and experience with any 3d software (even poser or 3dsmax) I do highly recommend trying out base building with the standalone app or blender plug in (if you are familiar with the software I hear it’s fantastic). Even if you have no experience with 3d software it’s quick to learn and has some useful guides.
Yes. And I want it to be a “holo” type door. I know … picky, picky.
Please Hello Games, can we have these glass display cases for our bases?
In fossil form.
And precious mineral form.
And pinned insect form.
And fishing tackle form.
And guitar plectrum form.
And pins and badges form.
And various bits of coloured yarn form.
And rare stamp form.
And collectible trading card form.
And various screw size form.
Painted miniature form.
Fugal spore specimen form.
Basically anything you can fit in these display cases…
Jewellery…
Monkey paws and haunted curios…
Or if you can’t do all that, just the fossil display case is fine
And omg I just noticed the skin rug… I’m not an animal skins kinda guy so we can do without zebra skinned rugs, but sure if you’ve already modelled one
Wall mounts for fellow travellers’ heads…
Sorry, having a day. Downloaded the expansion, game crashes on start.
It seems like a fine point to me, but a redditor recently clapped back about “expansion.” The claim was that an expansion is playable by itself without owning the base game. So he referred these major updates as “just patches.”
To me, a patch fixes a problem. An update can include a patch. For me, the major updates expand the game I one or more ways, so I’m comfortable with “expansion.”
Well that is a bunch of bull… I own the Sims 4 and all of its expansions. And every single one says you must own the base game to use this expansion. So that person is nutters, which isn’t uncommon these days.
