Base Building

I always have MP enabled. Not sure about crossplay…is that the same? I noticed MP is disabled in @Malveka 's screenshot. Does it make a difference?

No, crossplay allows you to see, for example, PC /XBOX players (and bases, maybe) on the ps4/5.

Oh. It has to be enabled in the PS online network settings so it is in the console settings not the NMS settings. No idea there was such a toggle. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Thanks to everyone for pitching in with ideas and testing time. I truly appreciate it!

@Mad-Hatter has also tried it out on PS5, but the base was not visible.

I’ll give this a couple more days to see if it works itself out on PS5 and then post the portal address publicly regardless, with a caveat if needed. Hopefully not needed! :crossed_fingers:

I went into my ps5 settings to enable cross play. It is off by default. Will try again today.

I did the PS5 crossplay permission thing AND enabled the options with NMS itself.
I also swapped to my alternative (work) internet which is stronger & jumped around a little in a known system to ensure multiplayer stuff like bases & message modules were visible.
I then ventured to the correct system (indentified by the new planetary names) & even tried a restore point reload there, all to no avail.
Twas a beautiful planet & a fine choice by @Malveka, alas for whatever reasons it doesn’t appear on crossplay for PS5.
I did notice a moment of lag upon reloading near the portal which had me thinking that there is possibly something there…but for whatever reason it remains hidden.

I’m wondering if it needs all the appropriate settings for sharing on PC to be enabled & then be reuploaded via the base computer.

On Steam, I believe cross play is auto…I see people across various consoles. I always have MP on, unless someone is ruining the day. But on PC, I had zero issues with the base. Who knows? Sad it does not show on console. Maybe I will visit on Switch, for the sake of science.

It may not show up for a few reasons.

  • too big, consoles are limited here.
  • mods
  • too much glitch building (as an example, resize glitch was used to make something too big for a console to handle)

  • I think it’s a modestly sized base in terms of number of components.
  • No mods used in its construction. In fact, I have no mods installed at all.
  • It does contain 25 Message Modules, 20 of which had to be glitched in since the default base limit is 5.

I have enabled Multiplayer, made a small change to the base and uploaded again. :crossed_fingers:

Yes. It is a simple, low parts base. Was going to jump in on Switch but I have been in and out if the basement with tornado warnings and now I have no power. :face_exhaling:

Ack! Scary! Thinking of you and hoping you come through totally unscathed. And that your power comes back soon. Keep us updated, please!

Have not checked my consoles yet. Was in the middle of a Fallout mission when everything went dark…kinda fitting.

My daughter has jumped on our PS4 & is currently on a new FALLOUT playthrough.
It does look ‘sharper’ & smoother from my brief watch.
I’d expect on PS5 it would be even nicer again…?

In the patch notes of the just released patch, there is mention of a ‘fix’ for bases not uploading properly.
Once my console has (eventually) updated, I’ll try again to visit the memorial system.

I just installed the patch on PC and made a couple of small changes to the base and uploaded it again.

Thanks for having a look again @Mad-Hatter!

I will check too as soon as I finish this movie about Chuck Yeager. And I will check Switch too though it may not have the patch yet…

It’s the game on pc high settings at 4k resolution. It was never a looker in its day so it hasn’t aged well either as a result, increased resolution helps fit more pixels on screen and helps with distance clarity but it’s not going to do all that much to how the game looked originally if the internal rendering is still the same as it was nearly ten years.

The decreased load times have made the game ten times more engaging, compared to how Bethesda games normally chug on console. This is the biggest selling point to me for returning. That and won’t say no to a free upgrade.

Funny thing happened actually, when I clicked on the free upgrade, the add to downloads option downloaded the PS4 version for some reason.

First twenty minutes I was wondering what the hell, this looks worse than my recent pc play through on medium settings, what’s going on here?

When I came back to play it later I noticed the big PS4 logo on the game on dashboard. Downloaded the correct ps5 version and, while I didn’t notice an immediate improvement (the menu with the power armour is the same pre rendered video they’ve been using since the game launched, it looks laughably bad nowadays with all the games improvements) I did notice it as soon as I entered the game. Crisp gui, little bit more vibrance to the colours and a nice crisp view distance.

But damn are those trees still fugly

Just wish console had a scap everything mod…I loved the one on PC.
For some reason, I can’t stop playing it again. Not sure why. But when I replay a game, I do the opposite of most people and I go to the easiest setting and concentrate more on other aspects like building and exploring every nook and cranny. I think it is just the music that brings me back…and my inborn desire to see everything clean…
