So it seems Recovered Items are basically junk.

Perhaps we should start a junk topic, @Starmza and @temp, thanks for checking out the new buried items.

For the purposes of the archaeology topic, let’s stick to the type of items that are found at the ancient ruins. Refer to the Doc in the top post. Ancient Ruins can be found by finding monoliths and Seeking Knowledge of the Past.

In the meantime, I turned in the Biological Sample of Invisible Weeds and received!

However…

‘Recovered Items’ and ‘Valuable Rock Samples’ do not always ‘PROCESS’ into or result in “JUNK.”

For instance…

Valuable Rock Sample:

Dig up the rock, and then mine the rock…

Result? - Receive ‘Valuable Rock Sample’

Next, analyze the ‘Valuable Rock Sample’

Result? - Receive ‘Enriched Alloy Metal’

This is valuable - not “JUNK” !

Next…

There are - (at least 2) - different kinds of ‘Recovered Items’

And it varies what you get back from these…

These are the scrapes I found…

At 1st glance, “LOST SUMBLIMATION PUMP” may sound like ‘JUNK’… but if you ‘DISMANTLE’ it, although it says, “Process damaged technology into parts”… you actually get back from it…

• Cadmium, Tritium, Indium, Gold, Platinum, etc.

These are ‘VALUABLE’ substances! - No?

Here are some more new finds for the list…

At 1st glance, “MINERAL RECORD” or “SPECIES RECORD” (or otherwise “Discovery Data”) or something similar… may sound like fragmented pieces of ‘JUNK’… but if you ‘ANALYZE’ it, you’ll “Process data into Nanites”…

This is ‘VALUABLE’ currency! - No?

However…

‘Recovered Items’ that result in “JUNK”…

Choosing ‘PROCESS PROTEIN’ gave this…

Thus resulting in ‘JUNK’…

And in this case ‘RUNAWAY MOULD’, with a total value of $1,120 UNITS…

Not nearly as valuable as certain ‘FOSSILS’ and ‘HISTORICAL ARTIFACTS’…

However…

This is ‘VALUABLE’ currency! - No?

Conclusion…

“One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”

You dig these plants and rocks out of the ground, and then you have to use your multi-tool’s mining beam on them. And no, they do not count in your discoveries when you scan them or analyze them.

From the diggable blobs @Starmza showed, I’ve gotten a bunch of variations of those “scraps of organic matter” (sorry, didn’t screenshot). All of mine just processed into small amounts of junk like living slime.

The crystals were much better, all giving "glowing mineral"s which processed to valuable mineral products.

I updated and made some changes to the spreadsheet, including the following new categories:

• Recovered Item
• Valuable Rock Sample

Keep digging for treasure everyone, you’ll never know what you’ll find

Due to the ORIGINS update greatly expanding the list of what can be unearthed, the thread title and concept of “Archaeological Digs” (which hearkens back to the BEYOND era) is facing the dilemma of a drastically changed, enriched and even weirder universe, where the process of ‘DIGGING’ for ‘BURIED TREASURE’ is no longer so easily defined as “ARCHAEOLOGY” for the purpose of unearthing ‘FOSSILS’ and ‘HISTORICAL ARTIFACTS’.

Why? — Because, in ORIGINS, we unearth anything, everything and then some.

Therefore, I see 2 options…

1. Let everyone keep posting ALL their findings here in this one thread;
2. Or — Create multiple threads, breaking down every possible finding.

So far, the exception is The Black Market thread, but do note that these can be unearthed, as well. And also note, that there is a fine line between ‘VALUE’ and ‘JUNK’, because even junk has value.
