I agree with you there, I’ve been doing some poking around the No Man’s Sky mystery with your cassette tapes and it seems pretty similar to what we’ve been investigating. I’m sure there’s some kind of endgame, but I’ll be darned if I know what it is.

I for one plan to hear those tapes later while I enjoy my scones. Or maybe some fairy cakes.

At the moment by best guess is marketing. You may be aware that NMS had a pretty rocky post launch and still has many detractors. Hello Games may be simply trying to generate curiosity and interest among a pool of people wider than the current NMS player group for their new release. Hello Games did suggest that future releases will be bigger than previous ones.

Not a bad theory, but I’m suspicious that there’s something bigger to all this.

Yes we’ll need to wait and see - I understand another clue will be released tomorrow (10th June).
I’ll check in the morning as I’m in Sydney and it’s only 22:45 now.

You might be right about that. Why mention technology sending messages to the past, or even these companies and websites when all it boils down to is to market a game?

There are a hard core of NMS players who enjoy the game and a significant number who felt let down by perceived mismatch between what Hello Games promised and what was delivered. Many of those let down have become a hard core themselves of trolls who do all they can to dissuade people from buying NMS.
Hello Games need to break through to a new audience. This could be the way.

Well, at the very least I hope it brings more positive attitudes to your community! From what little I’ve seen, you deserve it.

Yes, if it is all about a major new NMS release then great. I’ve pretty much played the game to a stand still and need a refresh. (and it would be nice to silence the trolls)

Yes, yes it would. Many people say they’ll back out if the investigation turns out to be related to NMS. It seems that the opinion that NMS did horribly affects just about everything

If I’m right, what you say makes Hello Games using this approach for marketing make sense. The current NMS group is split between dedicated players and those who will never be satisfied by anything NMS becomes. Logically then, something to generate interest in an entirely new audience would be the way to go.

Something I’ve just thought of: The decoded tapes basically say one thing “portal”.
Portals being a way to travel through worm holes in NMS. Portals are also web sites related to a specific
group or company. Is this forum and Waking Titan NMS portals in the later sense?

There hasn’t been any mention of portals in Waking Titan. I’ve only started hearing the term from the NMS investigation we have going. But I really don’t know ><

Would those portals be hexagon shaped?

Portals in NMS look like this:

No hexagons in sight :pensive:

But, a shape with 16 sides (the original portal in the Portal Trailer for the game has 16 smaller portals) is called a hexadecagon. Does that help?

Sort of! 16 is a pretty common theme for us.

16 cassettes, too. Loop16 in the Comm terminal. I see that.
