Sure. You could even take the 1 billion price tag off. Maybe you will have to dump huge quantities of resources/products into making your own space station. Heat capacitors, living glass and circuit boards would all make sense. Plus tons of iron.
I posted an idea on Reddit which would compliment this idea nicely. Anyway, have a read as it deals with the “how you purchase a system and from whom” problem.
@kerdorin @Xion4012 @Oshoryu
Now those are some great positive ideas from this thread. Ownership of a system simply implies your own custom space station (& maybe some bases). The price tag doesn’t matter so much as the concept. After you birth a star, you can install a space station there…for a price. Possibly in collaboration with other players following in the monument creation concept.
The station could be customisable within the existing design of the game; ie which race(s) runs it, colours, choice of designs & some customizable features & terminals unique to an owned station.
You can choose an economy & type, guild alliegences, conflict level, what type of freighters appear, pirate level, maybe even the ambient light hues, etc ect. Essentially the same as the game creates but customised. A sandbox system.
Maybe the existence of such a rare ‘owned’ system opens up possibilities like being able to have a cloned planet, identicle to some paradise you’ve seen before that you simply pick out of your discoveries list.
Maybe such a world could have the finest goodies luring visitors to come & plunder & feed your economy.
Essentially creating such a wonderous place would make finding one a game mission in itself, that once visited allowed vistors to return periodically for purchases or missions.
Base sharing but at a system level.
Maybe an owned system could spawn ALL ships & freighters that could be purchased from a terminal (at a premium) with a choice of colours & features.
Maybe a repairs booth for fixing damaged ships.
I think a docking fee seems fair as @Oshoryu suggested in the link.
Maybe there could be a terminal for epic missions that involve full use of the game mechanics, sending other players on massive complex fetch quests or missions with epic rewards.
The owner gets to take advantage of all the bouses of their owned system but to maintain it, they also need to interact with other neighbouring systems to build & maintain their citadel/spacestation.
Those neighbours might be other players or standard NPC.
Maybe a network of these ‘owned’ systems could begin an interaction, where visiting player quests involve forging warp paths between these types of owned systems, where systems along pathways need assistance of their own. Perhaps abandonded systems (with derelicts) that need resurecting.
It would be important for such an idea to still encourage exploring & to not isolate players but the HUB idea is so popular that if it could be implemented officially in-game I think most players would embrace it.
If not…well there is a lot of unexplored space out there.

I knew it! Was niggling me after writing, something felt wrong and now I remember, the thought of custom missions came from you @Virakotxa first speaking of quest mods in a different thread…which I see I subconsciously then stretched over here to expand upon…but really hadn’t meant to become an ideas thief! So there it is, my admittance upon realisation, oh dear, haha…
…still I stand by it, that it would be the strongest incentive for me to either want a system, or want to visit that of another player, that element unique to a person that is priceless. Riches, I’ve seen enough of it so as for docking fees, finest goodies, ship-repair services and so on, those things would actually make me turn my ship around if I accidentally happened upon such a place. Isn’t that just the beauty of it all though, at least in part, that there is something propelling us forward no matter who we are or what style of gameplay motivates us.
I’ll probably stay solitary for some time yet but much enjoying these future considerations…
Wise words. Well spoken.
Please look at the game!
Single player.
Finding up loaded to server.
If system previously found, planets, creatures, plants etc nothing to change.
If system not you get your name for all to see.
18 quad-trillion planets to name / 100K+ players
The problem I see : game would once again have to be re-written.
MMO aspect is what you are asking for.
There are other games available that do all the above.
It just cost you money to play them.
I realize HG is working on the multi-player aspects.
I enjoy the single player HUB work together to let others know about what you have found.
I don’t think this game could be an MMO.
BUT as in all things … HG needs to speak about all of this and their plans … tis a mystery as it should be, which I enjoy
now that issue about passes …
Just to clarify…
My previous posts were just thinking fast, out loud ideas. Not a wish list.
I’ve enjoyed NMS since the begining, before any bases, vehicles, freighters etc.
I didn’t need the extras but they seemed to improve the game…I was just carrying the idea further.
Just chucking ideas around.

I am of similar mind @Mad-Hatter. I have enjoyed the original game and everything HG has added to the game, even if I thought I wouldn’t before playing the extra content. If HG were to add a higher level of ownership as a game extra, I am sure they would do it well. I just love to ponder ideas and imagine possibilities.
The only item related to a wish list I had for this topic was concerning better visibility of home bases and system discoveries on the galaxy map. And truly, I hope we don’t have to spend 1 billion units for it
.
MMO’s typically have hundreds of players sharing one world, and yet in NMS we share a universe. It is very close to an MMO definition, maybe even a step beyond.
I would definitely sell one for a billion units ![]()
Have to buy it for a billion first ![]()
Lol well played ![]()
I would love to buy a system for a billion units! After all the hard work that went into getting a billion I wish I had something else to buy lol.
I would rather be able to buy Space Stations, which in effect would control the System. And make it so like in pre release you could actually destroy a SS,making it useless to fellow travelers. And in turn yourself obviously. And this would be a BIG deal, and you’d probably wanna stop whatever you’re doing, and go protect ur claim!
Make it so you could set your own prices and change a system from developing to Booming, etc.
But of course you would have to hire a crew to protect said SS, and you could roll the dice on how much protection u give it in regards to how much money it makes, the more money it makes, the higher the chance of deadlier attacks from Pirates or even players. Also make it so you can dock ur freighter in a SS, and have a screen where you can sell directly from your Freighter’s inventory, but only when u buy one or take one over.
