Worlds part 2 - Update 5.50 (Spoilers)

Everywhere I go, I feel like I am in a dream. What game is this again?

No Mans Sky Two. They released the sequel inside the game and hid it at the end of the story quests

Not the first to do it :stuck_out_tongue:

That looks like an impressionist painting. You could market that effect.

Ok @toddumptious . I was flying low and slow over these small islands looking for deeper water. And as I approached, I swear, the terrain is dropping from above and draping each island like a blanket. I really need a video but I think you can see it
here over the island directly in front of my ship

Here you see it right above each of the small islands

It looks like fog or a cloud and I thought it was a reflection in the water but no, it is a blanket descending from just above each island and falling over the land.

You don’t have an omnipotent presence that puts cosy blankets across the local hills and meadows in America?

It’s pretty normal in Europe and the rest of the world. Did you guys kill all your gods again?

Got to my second water world, decided I wanted to build a little base on the water surface and work down from there.

This meant finding the tallest piece of underwater terrain and building up with Manipulator to place a base computer and some starting pieces.

As I swam down, at around the 300u mark, the entire ocean disappeared and I began a free fall.

Anything that was once obscured by water now had a inky black shilouette. I could see the jagged terrain of the sea bed kilometers below start to fill up more and more of the screen.

You can see my ships jets splashing the water up top and that’s me in the green circle. Those manta rays did nothing at all to so slow my decent I must add. They just flew around like nothing was happening.

Eventually the water reappeared as I began to come to terms with the impending impact, with a hard splash I soon learned I was now 980u deep.

I quickly summoned my Nautilon and as I began to ascend, it happened again.

The Nautilon began to fall, hitting the top of a large hill and then tumbling down the side of it like a crumpled soda can.

It came to a graceful stop at the bottom, 1200u deep now. I get out and suddenly find myself on an ocean world with no water, I had died and gone to glitch heaven… I could walk around and experience a unique visit to a world that, with looming patches, I may never see again.

Oh my ship also completely disappeared after the second instance of the glitch. It was nowhere in the system, luckily you can summon a ship when wading in the water or I’d have to call a rescue team

This moon is so small, every building is leaning and so badly that by the time I get to the top of this ladder, I fall off

I experienced something similar.
My Nautalin is very basic with almost no upgrades.
I decended VERY deep & suddenly the Nautalin dropped like a stone & rolled & bounced down the slope like a Coopers Hill Cheese Wheel.

I jumped out & could only run & sort of fall & bounce up & down (with health warnings)… much like a chaser of the aforementioned Cheese Wheel.:grin:

I scrambled upwards & eventually got to a depth where I was swimming again & managed to heal my health, summon the (now behaving) Nautalin & head towards the surface.:man_swimming:

I think it is a glitch that has something to do with your health or shielding running out. Strange that it’s depth related & I’m not sure of the true cause.

Not sure where to post this but it relates to the new lore/mission.

Previously, there was some discussion as to whether we ‘create’ a new star or it is a seeded one we just ‘reveal’.

I had the unique circumstances of repeating the same mission on the same game/save file after I reloaded a pre-currupted save.

I made different choices at the ATLAS & watched the animation highlight a different star & this time it was unexpectedly quite a distance away compared to the first time through.

It’s my view that the choices we make at the ATLAS simply allows the game to pick the closest most relevant match.

I’m going to hunt for the ‘previous’ playthrough’s purple system as it was quite close to the ATLAS system & should be relativelt easy to locate.
If I can find the purple system I was sent to the first time then that will confirm my theory that we simply reveal what was previously hidden.

EDIT.
Found the first playthrough system.
Recognised the name & the planets features. All identicle & exactly as I remembered them…minus the glitches thankfully.
So yes. The galaxy had hidden secrets.

These memory stones look very Light No Fire-ish. I recall the blue glowing part of a tall item in the trailer. (I hunger for a new trailer).

Seemed the most plausible, it’s a matchmaking survey to help travellers meet their soulsystem

I finally found my first Non-Gas, Giant.

It’s an irradiated Giant

I’d been searching purple systems with single planets and multiple moons that weren’t gas giants. This one only had one moon so I almost skipped over it but the planet looked big in the galaxy map so I went for it

Don’t mind the settlement warning… That won’t go away for some reason… They’re actually building atm. Anyone else experiencing this issue since update? :joy:

Edit:

Approached the Titan and oh my they are big.

A section of ocean and continent is taking up the entire screen and I’m still 30 seconds out on full boost (not full pulse drive). As you can see by the asteroids, I’m still in space

Found a second Titan. This one was an abandoned atmosphereless planet so just a massive trampoline.

It has five moons though

You can get a better idea of the scale of these planets with my freighter called into orbit from planetside, then flew out into space to take a photo

Is that a new starship?
I’d forgotten about those…

It’s the starborn runner, the original one.

I am finding it impossible to swim into an underwater tunnel without being in the Nautilon. I get thrown up and out of the cave. This makes sense in deep water, as it would be dangerous without the Nautilon but it happens even in shallow water.

If I found an irradiated giant I would have to rename it ‘The Hulk.’

I get this all the time. It seems worse now with the recent ps5 patch. The only way I can escape is to build a base, a landingpad and calling my ship in.

This bug may be related to this.

I noted that on a particular stormy gas giant that the gravity was oddly strong & it pulled me down slopes & greatly affected my jetpack’s amount of lift.

Additionally, I found a similar ‘falling’ bug while swimming on a shallow sea planet, with the effect pulling me downwards suddenly, jamming the character in a lurched forward position & causing the water jet propulsion to only go straight up.
Effect ended once airborn & required a fiddly on/off jet pack opperation to flutter on to a nearby island.

The ‘feel’ of these being-pulled-downward suggests to me that it has something to do with the gravity effect.
I’m unsure how to explain the suddeness or trigger.

That sounds like a completely new approach to terrain generation. Instead of building it up as you go, you generate rough, diffuse shapes based on certain probability markers, and then you carve the terrain out of that “Heisenberg mass”, so you get a more gradual resolution of an ill-defined shape rather than sudden pop-up of a clearly defined one as you start chugging through the LODs…

Pure speculation on my part. Havent see the phenomenone myself, but based on your description that’s what I could imagine going on.

Well I have not seen the old popping in I saw before. More of a ‘shimmer to life’ effect. But this falling terrain is definitely what I am seeing. I was on a water world dotted with small islands. It is most noticeable at night. Sunlight makes it too faint to see and this terrain is sandy so it was kind of white at night.

Sounds like a church service for people who aren’t sure whether God exists.
