I think the atlas passes are just for the ARG. It wouldn’t be fair of Hello Games to give special treatment to certain players over others, and I don’t think they would do that anyway. My opinion of Hello Games will always be positive because of the way they handled the backlash after release by keeping their heads down and consistently improving the game with free updates over 18 months after release and we know there is more to come. Other game developers could learn a lot from them IMHO.
It’s worth remembering that when Waking Titan started, it had no obvious connection to No Man’s Sky.
Even approaching the end of the last ARG phase, there were still many people on the forums who refused to believe they were two parts of the same thing.
The ARG was (and still is) free, and open to all. You don’t have to be an owner or player of No Man’s Sky to get involved.
The Atlas passes were randomly awarded to people who took part in the ARG - not people who supported No Man’s Sky.
A (very) few passes were guaranteed to people who made exceptional efforts in the ARG (e.g. @toddumptious). The rest were randomly distributed amongst ARG players, many of whom will have no interest in No Man’s Sky, and who are probably not members of the related forums.
As of this moment, i find it really hard to believe anyone interested in WT isn’t a massive fan of NMS.
And the people who were denying the connection between the two were the overwhelming minority on Reddit.
As soon as the 2nd glpyh password to the 1st phase of WT, before all the boot sequence stuff, came from a comm ball on a planet in the NMS universe, the connection was established and was obvious.
Waking Titan first started with NMS community leaders (subbredit mods) receiving something special: the casette tapes with several other memorabilia items. Then Cobra TV received a similar package. Why wouldn’t something similar happen in this stage of the game? I’m not debating whether or not they deserve it, I’m just stating that it is likley to happen based on past events.
Well, Polyphemus, if you are considered riff-raff with all your contributions, then I must be a common slug since all I have really done is play the game for over 1000 hours. I am truly amazed at all those that share so much with so many of us. I must admit that I am still hoping to receive my Atlas pass even though I am an old guy!
Been supporting No Man’s Sky pre-launch, and even supported the developers, and
tried to help them in any way i can. I most likely won’t have an Atlas Pass.
I follow Sean Murray 3/4 year’s by now. Incredible how fast time goes when your having fun
Wich is strange because others in my country (Belgium) does have an atlas pass.
I have no idea what’s going on. But like it said in the e-mail, not everyone is guaranteed to have one.
Can anyone tell us how many Atlas Passes have been reported at this point? I’m starting to suspect they haven’t all been sent since I think less than half have been reported.
The alternative is that Sean Murray’s figure of 250,000 was correct. But the vast majority of them were people who had no interest in No Man’s Sky, and no active participation in the ARG. They just signed up to CSD in the hope of getting something for free.
Still, less than a quarter being reported makes it very likely, statistically speaking, that not all 10,000 have been sent out, especially almost a month after the first passes were received.
