The start of NMS is really the best part of the game. There is a reason to open every crate. A reason to enter all buildings. A reason to keep playing.
People who save edit in items just to build massive bases right away, miss an important element of the game. The exploration has a purpose when you are struggling to survive.
The first 10 hours I played in the game were the best, and I know I’ll never get that back. It’s why my main advice to new players is go as far as you can without help or advice.

Sunday is always the games busiest time, will be interesting to see where we are come then, and aa sheryl mentioned, the completege percentage will uptick naturally week by week or as HG deem fit due to their internal deadline clock that always accompanies these.
The community rarely ever gets there first, so rare in fact its become an assumed tradition that once again we’ll be relying on HG to get us over the finish line.
The QS community unlocks also operates in a similar fashion though I have seen that get completed sooner than expected before. Maybe once or twice
I wonder if xbox will get it this week, i dont know if they update over the weekend, they may have to wait for Monday… xbox certification has always been slow and tricky, especially when an expedition has these community tracking measures in place.
If I recall correctly, adrift expedition had over a week wait time for Xbox and had a similar progress tracking system in place. Think that was one of the worst wait times for Xbox folk.
Going off Steam db as a baseline, this update already has higher player attachment than Xeno Arena and Remnant, going into the weekend.

You have a glitch. I have only irritated the local sentinels once. Tunneled underground and escaped them.
The new sentinels at the wrecks are only slightly more difficult. I think you get 6 when dismantling the wreckage. They do more damage than the regular and the corrupted sentinels. So far, I have not died.
I have turned off MP when working the 2 wreckage missions. Players love to aggro all the local sentinels. There should only be the new ones that look like the “eye” on the front of the wreckage.

I tried a couple of times in MP - it was insanity, with players, drones, and wreckage parts glitching in and out of existence every few seconds. I could see maybe 30 players, but never for more than a second or two. Same with the drones - they would flash in and out of existence - occasionally one would linger long enough to shoot me. I couldn’t interact with the main wreck in any way.
If I switch to single player, I can interact with the wreck - but as soon as I do, a swarm of 10 drones appears and lets loose. I emptied six whole boltcaster clips into one of them, and managed to reduce its health by about 20%. In the meantime, the other 9 are flinging plasma at me.
If I hide, they will stop shooting me - but they don’t stop searching. The swarm never subsides - it’s waiting for me when I come out. On one occasion I hid for half an hour, and they were still there. If I fly into space, then come back, they’re still waiting for me.
I’ve restarted the game several times, and it keeps on happening. It’s quite irritating, and makes completing the expedition difficult.

Defintiely sounds like a bug to me. I’d report it, if not done already. Sounds like your save file’s causing it? Could upload that in the report.

Gads. I took it as read that each piece pulled from the wreck = one death.
And apparently that Anne Leckie quote about saving stupid actions for later is linked to my account same as my team color.
But seriously folks, I’d like to echo the sentiment that stopping to smell the roses is likely what HG intends us to do with this expedition. After getting to the Phase 3 chokepoint, I decided to lean in, change my appearance, collect my Herald for a smoother ride, and start exploring like I would anyway (I always use my old Polestar save for exps, then double back to find a place to make a commemorative base on the route when I’m finished; this time I think I’ll scout a location while still in the exp). Anyway, I made the mistake of checking ye olde subreddit for bug/glitch warnings/advice, only to see little but “waaaaaaah why does HG make me play their game the way they want it played.” Y’all are truly a breath of fresh air. Mind if I stick around for a while?

It happened to me once, although this regularly happens with sentinels for me on my legacy save, they never give up the chase. I remember in 2017 it used to happen all the time too.
I find what seems to instigate it now is if i get in my ship breifly during a fire fight. Doesnt sound like this was the case for you but I do experience a similar issue.
When it happened with me the one time with the swarm, completing the task made them go passive instantly.
However in recent attempts, completing the task first leaves me with a “x amount of drones remaining” and I cant interact with the crash sites final step until I do.
Seems pretty inconsistent, I think I got lucky with my initial permanent chase bug.

Reddit is a hive of scum and villainy anyway
not the greater one, but certainly one of them. Knee jerk bad takes everywhere. There is some good there too though, it must be said.

Reddit is the best way to be warned of save breaking bugs… Just glance over the headings before playing right after a new update.
If r/NoMansSkyTheGame is full of “rage! FML!!” then… wait for patch
If it’s full of “I set one foot into the Nexus and my inventory is full of fish” then everything is normal and fine.

Heh. When I first started playing in 2020 (Origins, the best $15 I ever spent) the sub/r was very helpful, and the community welcoming, but there’s been a definite shift toward the forum being like … most everywhere else as far as internet griping goes. I’ve long been using it less as a place to find base build inspiration and more like a place where you check the headlines and quickly move on.
Meanwhile, when at the Nexus I usually fill inventories with basalt, but I think I’m going to switch to fish.

Honestly, gifting basalt is a great idea for this expedition (assuming the recipient knows what to do with it), as hunting some down is always the most tedious part of crafting the Voltaic Amplifier IMO. That item + Paralysis Mortar (and/or upgraded Blaze Javelin) stunlock is super helpful in dealing with ground swarmers despite their buffs.

This is funny.
I usually fill pockets with Relics of the First Spawn or Terrifying Samples.

Today has certainly been the worst for inappropriate bases and griefing at objective locations.
I just had to clear ten bases at a site before I could get through, reported them all. Some with absolute vile names, other with stupid names like “Only Weavers may win, suck it!” etc and failing to realise this also blocks out Weavers
We’re all in this together, we all lose to the swarm if we can’t get our crap together
Stupid space children.
I’m sure as the weeks go by they may get bored and go away… I fear how worse it will get when the xbox ilk finally show up
If anything, its a great tactic for Hello Games to weed out the worst of us by seeing who abuses their base privelages the most before the big Anniversary day.
edit:
Also of note, I started my expedition on my PC save yesterday and it was a LOT harder than when I did it during the expeditions launch period.
There were a lot more bases, which were covering up most of the nearby copper which was needed to make chromatic metal quickly.
I spent an hour just walking to find some that wasn’t covered up, this also seems to prevent it from showing up on your GUI and the resource tracker in catalogue was also failing to find any as a result, and then it was an hour trip back to my ship. I actually gathered enuogh chromatic metal for all 3 echoes just by mining the stones that give you 1-2 chromatic metal on my journey to find copper.
Out of the 50 or so bases I passed through, at least one of them was useful and had oxygen, silver and nitrogen harvested for me to collect. Big Thanks to that one traveller <3

I wonder how easy it would be for HG to prevent bases within x units of certain sites? Even it only within expeditions. Wouldn’t help with the resource mining, but could help with the missions.

Does reporting only remove the base for me locally? Or does it also send a message to HG that they can track to see “huh, 74646123 million people just reported Joe’s base, guess it’s in the way”?

Yes, it reports it to HG.
But I’ve never known them to do anything about it.

Didn’t they do that in a recent expedition? They blocked use of a nice sized area around the POI so no one could build. I was very very surprised they did not do that this time, especially since this is competitive

If they see 1000s of reports they may be forced to do something
Especially since we seem to return to the same areas. This will only get worse

I just realised something.
We normally only have steam numbers to go off of, to get a proper idea of how many people are playing the expedition.
With the team numbers, we can finally get a good grasp of the wider active community.
When XBOX update lands, we’ll also see a sudden boost of player numbers and could extrapolate how many people come from that platform somewhat too, though only the low peak numbers really if the xbox updates mid week…
Either way, we’ll at least get a wider range of player numbers and this will probably help gauge if the NMS10 goal of trying to get more players on all platforms than the steam launch day stats is even feasible (one of the events goals).
Another interesting insight might be, Hello Games predicted numbers for player engagement by the screenshot they shared in the patch notes. No doubt they would have run the figures based on their internal stats and averages…
This might be good insight too, it seems across all platforms there may be 600,000 active players.
Hello Games Projected numbers taken from patch notes page
Current active patricpants taken from todays live numbers…
16,322 Weavers
16,137 Royals
15,928 Sages
48,387 Total.
These numbers will no doubt go up big time on Sunday. Will be interesting to compare and even archive, so we can then put those numbers against the following Sunday hopefully with Xbox players on board by then too.
