but a lot less exciting.

I haven’t searched for a crashed ship in a long while. Can someone tell me, if you have the full compliment of six starships and find a crashed wreckage, then to salvage a ship can we simply swap and claim the ship, repair it, go salvage it, (presumably by default flip to one of your other ships), fly down to the crash site and swap or pick up the previous ship, presumably still beside the crash site? If you log off the game during that procedure are you stuck with the repaired crashed ship and will lose the ship you landed in at the site?
Or must we prepare one of our ships to always be a junk (salvage swap) ship?
If I’m understanding your question: If you have the full compliment of ships you cannot add another.
If you swap your ship you can no longer interact with it. My experience with that comes from doing this in space stations, where I (having only 5 owned ships) purchase one, say a C-class, then see another I want more (an A-class), swap the purchased one to get the new one, salvage the new one, and find I can no longer interact with the C-class.
I can however still interact with my original ship --but I’m not yet sure what would happen if I got disconnected or logged out before jumping into my original ship.
My personal opinion is that I would first choose one of your owned ships to scrap, thereby giving yourself a slot to play with.
My modus operandi is to “claim” the crashed ship, fix up just enough to get it off the ground (launch thrusters, engine, shield) and then leave it there until I can get to my freighter. Then I go about my business, knowing that the new crashed ship is waiting in my freighter for me to fly it to the station.
When I then salvage it, the game spawns one of my other ships in the station for me to use.
Hope that helps.
On PS4 (Legacy Save)
I cashed in an old ship to reduce my fleet to 5.
I now have the option to ‘claim’ a wreck, which I slightly repair & then scrap.
My game then issues me my number 2 ship everytime as my replacement transport.
(When I say my number 2 ship, it is the ship that always defaults to my 2nd parking bay in my freighter)
I’ve made this my ‘scrap run’ ship, which gradually fills up with recycled components from scrapping wrecks, which I sell off periodically.
One issue I’ve noticed since the last update is that I can no longer call my freighter to systems outside its warp range. More realistic I suppose but frustrating after hundreds of hours of play where I was able to call it, no matter how far away I was.
I always get the last ship in the first left-hand row, when I salvage a crashed ship --even if my fighter is still in the station. Nice of them to give me a choice.
I tend to keep my freighter parked in my home system right next to the space station. Then I use the station portals to get back, fly the few meters to the freighter to pick up the repaired ship for salvage run.
PC Euclid Normal – A/23/6 crashed shuttle:
Sorry… forgot to note the Lat/Long. I have to go back to claim it myself, so I will update this with that info then.
Red star Save Beacon dropped. Took that down.
Comm Ball dropped
Signal Booster dropped:
Edit: Got 2 Augments from this one.
This shows the lat/long doesn’t it?
Ah! Never noticed that! (got to get these cataracts removed )
Thanks!
Finally got back to pick up the crashed ship and yes that is the lat/long!
also when I got back there, the game had duped my comm ball. They both have the same message inside. lol
There are only two hard problems in distributed systems: 2. Exactly-once delivery 1. Guaranteed order of messages 2. Exactly-once delivery
Oh, yes! I can see how that would complicate things.
FYI… There are two claimable crashed haulers at this weekend’s quest -one at the target, and one just a short way away from it with a red beacon and a portable pod.
iirc, they are both Bs.
