Someone please help me

((SPOILERS))

PS4

Normal Mode

Someone please help me!!! I have been struggling ever since I denied the Final Atlas, p.s never refuse the Atlas. Since I had refused the Final Atlas, the quest The Purge changed to the quest New Beginnings, and it said “Enjoy the galaxy” it said that i can explore for however long I want, that the Atlas is dying very slowly, and he is waiting if I change my mind. Well obviously I changed my mind because I can’t continue in the story without doing this. So I tried to find a way to return to him, I spent hours online searching ways, I can’t. People said you have to just do it the long way now, and journey to the Center of the Galaxy. So I did that, went through the center of the galaxy, and into the next galaxy. Everything is normal as to everything being busted and such, im in the new galaxy now, the one after Euclid of course. BUT, the story quest New Beginnings, has not changed. It says Enjoy the Galaxy still, and it still says the Final Atlas awaits my decision as if I didnt just reset the simulation by going through the center of the galaxy? I’m so confused and kind of frustrated. I’ve been struggling for a few days now with all of this, I just wanted to progress in the story, thats why i went to the center, because i had refused the final atlas that was the only other way i thought, but now im stuck. Any help is much appreciated!!!

The story is finished at this point. You just chose the ending where you stay in your current galaxy. The other ending would have teleported you to a new one, but the story’s just as done.

@vGinga: I have changed the category of your topic. Welcome to the forum.

Oh okay really?!?! See, I was wondering that, I was searching if there was more storyline after The Purge, and all that kept coming up was The Purge itself, that would explain that. But, isn’t there a trophy you get when resetting the galaxy? When i went through the center to act as resetting the galaxy since i refused the Atlas, I didn’t get any achievement. Do you know anything about this?

Is there anything else I missed out on by taking this direction? I really just wanted to complete everything the game had to offer, then explore, so i’m very uneasy about how i went about things and the outcome i got.

Also, what would’ve happened to the Purge mission if I did this the correct way and complied with the Atlas? Would it still be there? Would it change or say something different? Im so confused by this, this is why i felt like i hadn’t fully completed the game, and the story continued. Its really bothering me to see its still there.

And hey, I can’t thank you enough for your response and feedback, I have literally been losing my mind over this. This is one of the best games i’ve played by far, and it crushed me when i thought i had completely screwed my game, I made this same post on so many forums, and you were the only one to respond to me after a few days of waiting on my posts, and i appreciate that greatly.

Thank you! I apologize, i’m extremely new to forums in general, and i was in a panic for help.

There are achievements for reaching the center of the galaxy in Survival mode, and Permadeath mode.

I never reset the galaxy either because I wanted to stay where most players were, and it used to be a one-way trip. Multiplayer eventually allowed us to overcome that obstacle. In fact, I think the game now lets you return to your old bases in previous galaxies now? (not sure, I’m still in Euclid, someone else can confirm)

If you jump galaxies you can return to player bases still listed in the teleporter even if they are in other galaxies…be they yours or other players (if you have used multiplayer).

The Atlas mission is sort of open ended & so you just keep on wandering forever once completed.
Getting all the milestones, unlockables & languages will keep you occupied for quite some time.

Welcome to the forum @vGinga ! We keep hoping that HG will add some new lore or missions that will give NMS an actual ‘ending’ or at least something that makes a little more sense. In the meantime, yes you can travel back to your bases in any galaxy. I am slowly travelling thru all of them. To return to another galaxy, use any teleporter. One at your base, at a space station or on the Anomaly.

I’m not sure what exactly triggers it, but a couple things you should do is warping to different systems, and the other is to visit Polo in the Anomoly and ask for help finding Atlas stations. You may have to do this several times, but eventually you will get that chance again, it will show in the quest log. Unless HG has fudged this.

The purge quest would be removed, but you’d still get the new beginnings “quest”. There’s really no difference in terms of content.
There’s lots more out there if you just go out and explore. The main story doesn’t contain all of the lore. A lot of that is spread out over various elements in the game, many of them containing their own lore lines that are reveiled ina fixed order as you progress through them.
These are (at least those I’m aware of)

  • ruins and plaques, containing the history of the three races. Which lore line is continued by which ruin is determined by the dominant race in the system.
  • monoliths, which reveal more about the philosophy and ideologies of the races. Again, depending on the dominant race in the system.
  • the historical archives, revealing interesting tidbits and details about the individual races.
  • Abandoned buildings, containing experiences of past travellers. I think these are progressed by distance (i.e. you need to have travelled a certain distance from the last abaondoned building you visited), otherwise they repeat.
  • boundary breaches, telling the story of Telamon, with a rather disturbing twist.
  • Underwater ruins have their own line of lore, independant of the dominant race.
  • Crashed freighters give additional lore, though I don’t think its chronologically organised or connected like the others. I think they too are governed by distance.
  • There’s a couple of NPCs, usually hanging out in the bars at space stations, that have little conversations/puzzles apart from the standard dialog choices, Often providing additional lore and insights into their culture.
  • There’s the whole base building quest, which yield further insights into the cultures of your specialists, as well as some more lore about the travellers and, possibly most notably, Vy’Keen religion.
  • Since you finished the main story you should have the blueprint for “remembrance”, which, if installed in your suit, allows you to get additional insights into the fate of the Atlas in some of the Atlas-pass locked backrooms of spacestations or bases.
  • There’s also the Atlas interface questline (aka the Atlas path), which is independent of the main story.

I’m not even sure that’s all of them. There’s tons out there, the main story is only a small part of it. Don’t worry, go out and explore. If you were narrowly focused on the main story so far, you haven’t heard half the lore that is out there.

Wow! Thank you all for the great responses I was not expecting that lol. You guys all helped me out a lot and I feel completely comfortable just continuing this save now.

One last question, i’ve been searching up about it but can’t find much on it. I still haven’t gotten the Atlasspassv1 yet, and neither has my girlfriend and she’s nearly done with the story too. Did we miss something? I saw a bunch about you get it from Polo at the space anomoly, but we haven’t gotten anything

Aren’t those found by interacting with some of the buildings? Rather than from doing the Lore quests. (I may be wrong)

@TravelEcho is correct. The Atlas Passes v 1 and 2 are found in the Manufacturing Facilities.

You can only get those via blueprints found in the Manufacturing Facilities as mentioned above. These can be found on all inhabited planets & using maps purchased at a space station can help speed this process up a bit.

You blast out the door, scamper inside so the Sentinel guards don’t get you & then you need to accurately solve a multiple choice puzzle. This then gives you options for various recipes, including the Atlas Passes.
You then use the recipes to make the items in your inventory.
Atlas Passes need to be kept in your inventory & they work like installed tech.

Not positive but I think:
Atlas 1 opens fuel drums.
Atlas 2 opens some rooms on larger NPC bases.
Atlas 3 opens up the room in Space Stations (behind the Missions & Guild Desks (accessed by the corridor near the Galactic Terminal)
This is how you learn more lore regarding the Atlas ect.

Oh? There was a time when you were given them by Polo for bringing him data, at least the first two. Has that changed?
In any case, manufacturing facilities are the quickest way to get them, no doubt about that.

Great to know! Yeah that wasn’t said anywhere when i was searching up about it, only stuff about talking to Polo so that’s good news. Looks like ill be grinding out those facilities!

I believe it changed with Next

I look at the information and missions as more of a back story to better understand the universe and it’s races. So I don’t think of an “end” to it.

Hello Games originally made a point of saying that the game had lore rather than a storyline. I do expect the lore to get embellished more as time goes on. I suspect that Living Ships are part of a planned lore expansion.

I’m already eager to see what HG comes up with for this year’s anniversary update.

@jedidia I had to check that fact with Mrs Mad_Hatter & yes that’s how you get them now. Been a while since I started & continued a fresh playthrough.

@Clemm I recall the same thing regarding NMS not actually having any actual ending. You do the main playthrough & then you just keep on exploring & enjoying the universe, (which has gotten progressively more varied with each large update).

@vGinga Feel free to ask Q’s on this site anytime. We all play nice here. :hugs:
NMS is quite complex & has changed a lot since release so often the online info is out of date.
Not sure if I mentioned it earlier but:
Welcome to the forum

One more thing ( yea Im watching Columbo) the more words you know the easier it will be to answer the puzzle correctly in the manufacturing facility’s .
