Are any of these settlements on nice garden or even paradise worlds?
I would assume there would be @stryker99
Here is a better pic of my settlement. It appears as if it just leveled the land, raising part and lowering part.
It seems that the cliffs I see on some of the others are similar height to mine, except mine is set down this amount (or a bit more), on all 4 sides.
There is a massive cave that has been disected which might explain things a bit.
I’m guessing the settlement centre must have been placed in a hollow intruding into this cave space resulting in the large area being cleared to allow for the settlement placement, creating a large square crater.
I’ve seen similar hexagon type ‘cutouts’ for Trading Posts sometimes.
Just another NMS curiosity I suppose.
I’m a bit busy at present but here are a couple of quickly grabbed grainy phone/TV screen photos…
My settlement is on a plateau amongst several hills. Fortunately, the only larger nearby hill had both a decent electromagnetic and uranium hot spot to establish a decent base.
Yeah, what happens if it proposes to build a new structure where my rover is parked, or my savepoint? On the other hand I noticed that it prevents me from landing in a certain flat area so I assume that one us clearly reserved for the future and already tagged as “cannot land here”.
Nope, mine is on a flat area on a low peninsula. One side has some hills I think. Seems the algorithm sometimes picks better or worse spots. Maybe in your case it looked at a ditch and thought that was the average level of the land, and just slapped the whole settlement including its ground in there? (PS: Noticed that Mad-Hatter already suggested the same thing )
@Mad-Hatter My settlement is not as bad as yours, but it has clearly adjusted terrain to be leveled and lowered/raised. I have a lot of floating trees, as they were apparently unable to adjust to this change.
My console neighbour has returned to the settlement.
He built a base outside, and he is laying wires and setting up cargo containers, safepoints, teleporters, and solar panels across the settlement (top-right quarter). In the bottom left, you see our duped vehicles, the summoning stations return with him.
I don’t know what he sees while I’m there or gone. I built the water tower in his absense and made some nanites with settler expeditions.
The “pavement” and the two landing pads (top left quarter) are new, from my point of view. Are they new base parts that he added manually, or are they part of the settlement progress? I still wonder whether we both own it and see different realities.
I’m not building anything permanent there and I don’t mind if someone else does. I would just like to complete this story. If I should see a city in a prettier place I might move (I assume accepting a new one discards my progress of the old one…?)
That’s odd. Can you use base building pieces in your settlement? I can’t.
I think there’s some weird bug going on there. I’d just bail on that system altogether if it was my settlement.
Definitely strange. He should not be able to build that closely yet it looks like he can definitely see the settlement.
I agree with @dersvr . Bail.
I have found that if I put down a base computer a few hundred units away from my settlement, I can claim it as my base and then I can add base parts amongst the settlement buildings. Not sure what happens if the game decides to enlarge the settlement into the area where my base parts are.
Hmmm… I can place a base computer next to the stuff that the other player built… I didn’t actually do it since that place is already cursed enough
I’ll casually start looking for another one…
Are all the settlements that show up as markers on planets the already claimed ones?
No idea on that last question but surely you are not in a system that is that crowded.
Thank goodness I bought into the doughnut cannery…I can pass on the parasitic omelettes
Beautiful.
But after the storm, also slightly cursed.

All settlements I find (using the charts from the station) claim they are owned by “Other Player”. Sigh.
That is strange. You need to make a few warps
I hope it brings in a bit of productivity! Or was it produce? Not sure which.
I noticed one thing about these settlements. They are very quiet! Nobody talks or shouts, nobody bangs any hammers, nobody revs their engine or drives their cart, nobody sings, nobody slams doors, no cattle, nobody does any sports, nobody playing football… (Well, and there have never been any children.)
I do have one (or more) guys who run around a lot. One runs out of the office and then runs in a very small circle just outside the door.
My peeps run when a storm comes in. Now that happiness is improving, I see them wave and say hi to each other
