Patient Intervention Thread - Alexander

I’m a bit puzzled here.

We’re told that Erroll Garner’s “Nearness of You” was played at Alexander’s wedding, and we’re asked to get a radio DJ to play it.

As far as I can tell, Erroll Garner never released “Nearness of You” as a single, nor does he seem to have made a studio recording of it.

There was a live recording made in 1955, during the “Concert By The Sea” performance. But the song didn’t make it onto the album.

It was only fairly recently that researchers discovered the original master tapes of the “Concert By The Sea”. This resulted in a new, three CD box set, “The Complete Concert By The Sea”, which included 11 tracks that hadn’t been on the original album. This compilation did include “Nearness of You”, but it wasn’t released until 2015.

So, unless Alexander was married after 2015, I don’t see how the track could have been played at his wedding.

Well generally speaking, a band at a wedding is going to do covers, so maybe they covered his version?

Perhaps. You’d think it would be necessary for them to have heard the track, in order to cover it. And if it hadn’t been released…

Maybe I’m just nit-picking.

It’s going to be tough finding a radio station that has access to some of those records, though. There’s some really obscure stuff.

I suppose the band could have been in attendance at the live show - yeah stretching it. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Not necessary heard it. in the 50’s it wasn’t so hard to find musical scores of famous song/music. So a proffessional band in wedding was able to play the “hits”.

Maybe Erroll was a good friend and played it in person at the wedding, lol.
But, you are correct about the obscurity of some of these. There would be no way to do this the legit way.
My dad and his first wife used to go to a dance hall in Shreveport, LA. They would dance all night. They would sit and talk to the musicians. That musician turned out to be Hank Williams. He sang and performed songs there that did not ever show up on any records.

OMG! Cobra as Elvis…? :sob:

On the other hand, that was the sweetest thing I ever heard. What a darling! I’m both laughing and crying.

“Wake up Alexander, buddy…” Cobra makes a fantastic DJ!

Great research there! “The complete concert by the sea” is as accessible as it can possibly be: It’s on spotify!

Yeah, Cobra would be great as a DJ but probably should refrain from singing lol…not that I’m judging, I can’t sing either.

I was going to say the same thing the similarity to Spock is a bit surprising.

Hi all,

I would very much like to be the one to mix together all the recordings for Alexander once they have been submitted, if the community will accept me for this role!

I will be free Sunday night and all of Monday to do this task. I have done ‘song mixing’ for No Man’s Sky already, here https://soundcloud.com/user-769387085/dreams-cycling_tuningtuningmusic-sequenced_cassini. And I have done lots more song mixing besides this.

I have also created other No Man’s Sky musical fan works, and was a part of the inception of the Galactic Hub way back when! I would love very much to do this task of mixing the songs together once they have all been recorded, to make a special kind of playlist!

It would be a great pleasure for me to do this. Let me know, thank you! ^^
