Yes indeed
Thatās interesting. I got a different impression. I felt that they had pre next stats, but I upgraded mine from c to s with nanites from a planet in my home system.
Still got to add a couple of cannon modules when I get round to it. Donāt know if that will boost it any further
The Experiment
I decided to do a little research into the latest update. To that end, I have travelled to a previously unexplored system. I have chosen a planet - this one.
I have explored the planet a little from the air, and I have identified three sentinel pillars. There are undoubtedly more, but three will do for my purposes. I have been careful to make no aggressive moves or indulge in any conflict (yet).
I have marked each of the sentinel pillars with a different coloured beacon: black, white, and red.
Black Beacon Site
White Beacon Site
Red Beacon Site
The pillar sites are all guarded by an exomech, and one each of the new drones,
Despite this being an āaggressive sentinelā planet, I have seen none of the old-fashioned aeron drones, and the new sentinels have not attacked me as long as I do not take any hostile action.
I have identified some locked manufacturing facilities, each of which is guarded by a single exomech (no drones in evidence).
I have also identified what I believe to be a new type of locked structure. It looks very much like one of the old large abandoned buildings, but the doors are sealed, and it is the most heavily guarded building of all. These things are guarded by all three types of new drone, an exomech, and by a walker. Hereās one:
New Locked Facility
Now I have it all set up, Iām going to see what happens if I attack and/or enter any or all of these facilities.
Iāll post more when Iāve done some.
Itās a bit silly that you can walk up to the pillar and the mech just looks. You walk up to the panel and shut down all sentinels. They get destroyed. Why do they not attack?
I thought you had to destroy the thingamashingies first before you can deactivate them?
Well, I didnāt. But it was before the hotfix I think.
You canāt access the panel until youāve destroyed the three outer boxes. As soon as you attack one of the boxes, the exomech and drones become hostile. They only ignore you as long as you donāt do anything aggressive.
I think destroying the thingamawhatevers was just for the Laylaps missionā¦okayā¦thanks @Polyphemus scratch what I just stated
Iāll try again if Iām able to play tonight and I find a pillar somewhere.
Howeverā¦
I think that once youāve turned off the sentinels at one pillar, that disables all the sentinels on the planet. Which means youāre then free to loot any guarded site you can find, with no sentinel resistance.
Not only that, I believe that turning off the sentinels at a pillar doesnāt just disable them - it kills them - i.e. they die, and drop loot barrels. At every guarded site on the planet.
Thatās one of the things Iāve set up the experiment to test.
More laterā¦
Thatās what Iād expect from the patch notes, yes. I have no idea for how long they stay down, however.
That building is likely an Operations Center. The proc-gen sometimes assembles them into a straight line like the abandoned buildings.
I said earlier on that you had to destroy the three boxes around a sentinel pillar before you could access the terminal. And it was true.
But now Iāve started a new game, on a new save, and now I find I donāt.
Iām currently playing the new Expedition. I came across a sentinel pillar, and I was able to walk up to the terminal, and turn all the sentinels off. I didnāt need a password, and the sentinels didnāt try to stop me.
So, @gunnar , @sheralmyst , you were right.
Thanks! I feel a little better about my memory now.
And we can all agree that this should be considered a bug, right?
I donāt know. Iām not really a big fan of fighting in games - so the idea of being able to turn combat off, while leaving the rest of the game the same, has some appeal for me.
That said, being able to remove all the enemies so effortlessly does kind of make nonsense of the whole Sentinels update.
Perhaps they could keep the ability to turn them off, but make it harder? The code already includes a routine requiring a password to access the terminal. Perhaps each planet could have a different password, and you have to complete a quest to get it?
OMG the new sentinels are something to avoid in the expedition. I found myaelf on an aggressive planet with no fuel in my ship and no upgrades or supplies. I just sat in my ship waiting for a miracleā¦I did finally get away but it was not easy
First thing I did when I got into space was summon the anomaly and claim my Golden Vector.
At least I can face the challenge with a proper shipā¦
I did too but it still runs out of gas I have gotten so used to my fuel-efficient upgraded ships, I forget to look at the gauge.
