No Man’s Sky Travellers can now continue their journey through the universe on multiple platforms with the introduction of cross-save. Whether you play on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, or Mac, you can share your progress across multiple devices…
Follow the instructions here to enable cross-saves on your chosen platforms.
Then simply launch No Man’s Sky on one of your connected platforms. Your most recent save will automatically be uploaded to the server, and made available for download on your other connected platforms. You can then elect to upload more saves, up to a maximum of 5.
Just some extra info for those who’ve yet to do it.
If you’ve signed up for twitch drops in the past and applied it to multiple platforms/accounts, it will remember and reuse this information for your cross save.
I put in my PSN account details, and it remembered it’s linked with my steam account for the twitch drops.
So I only had to sign one in and was able to toggle all the rest on for cross save.
Was happy of this time saver as I never remember my steam password or login name and always have to refish it out.
Going to try bring my pc save over to psn and see what happens with rewards
" the cross saved beta is currently full, please try again later"
So I get this message when trying to enable cross save within game on PS5
Looks like it was a first come first to click the enable cross save button.
Did anyone manage to get in?
edit:
" From today, all No Man’s Sky players can connect their different platform accounts together at https://cloud.nomanssky.com/cross-save. A subset of players will then be admitted to the beta. Participants in the beta will be able to upload and download saves from any connected platform, via the in-game save screen. In the coming weeks, all players will be invited to do so."
All players can activate it for their platforms, a subset can upload to the beta.
So was it a select subset or first through the gate? Either way good to know it will be coming for the rest of us in the next few weeks.
edit: Just checked on Steam and I don’t even get the “enable cross save” option in the menu like I do on ps5.
Edit 2:
Some additional details on how it functions
Cross-saving of No Man’s Sky across different platforms requires a Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo account (“External Platform Account”) and you will need to log in to your External Platform Account to be authenticated for the cross-save feature. Once authenticated, your selected External Platform Accounts will be connected to the Hello Games ID that will be automatically generated for you (“Hello User ID”). We are not obliged to provide cross-saving and we reserve the right to, at any time and in our sole discretion: (i) disable or remove cross-saving and/or (ii) delete any Hello User ID.
Has anyone actually managed to get in? The button didn’t show up for me at all until a while ago and I tried it immediately just to get the beta full message.
I had a feeling something might have been up when I had a different experience on steam than ps5. On steam you can see it’s trying to make contact with something, you get a little loading animation, and then the button doesn’t reveal itself.
I assumed it might have just been an issue on my end, meant to restart the PC after the update but hadn’t gotten around to it yet.
So stand by and get ready to join before it fills up? Or perhaps the subset they mentioned, was selected and you find out when you connect, and perhaps this is the part that hasn’t gone according to plan?
I was thinking how they might have done this, if it was a selected subset. It would be easy to see who has already linked multiple platforms to their twitch for twitch drops. From this you could find out how long they’ve been playing for, and if they are still an active player. Then you could get a nice breakdown of players/platforms/frequency of play and “activate” them.
I’m lazy so if I was in their shoes I would’ve just gone for the first come first served method and I feel it’s what they may do, but they’ve proven time and time again they go above and beyond. Its the use of the word subset that has me thinking this. If it was a first few over the crossline situation, usually that is mentioned with a beta announcement.
Hello Games Cloud is a bit of a mouthful and kinda drags rhytmically. They should have used this opportunity to pay homage to the community again and called it “Fix the clouds Sean”
Now and again I do wonder what cloud guy is up to… and if they’re happy.
I can see a few small changes to the auth sequence, it now includes your HG-ID when the game authenticates, a sessionID, your linked account platform IDs, and a bool for your “CloudSaveStatus”, which I thought shows whether you’re in the beta or not, but mine seems to be set to true w/o me being in the beta, so it might just be to show you have your accounts linked? The one thing it doesn’t return is the actual server endpoint the game should be trying to contact for cloud saves, which I’m guessing is where something went wrong?
Or more like alot (or just enough, depending on how you look at it) of people linked and uploaded their saves and there is no more space. It is beta after all, so I doubt that there is alot of space allocated.
Nice! You can enable or disable whichever files you want, just make sure the console you are moving to is also up to date.
Will check PS5 in a bit
Files can then be managed from the new Manage Cross Save Files tab
Toggling the cloud save button on and off was very satisfying. It also updates the version in the cloud save as you actively play on the save too which I thought was interesting.
Nice to see the Goodship Lollipop is still going strong!
Now for the grand experiment I’ve been wanting to try…
Will bringing my PS5 save over to my PC save container, give it access to the expedition rewards I’ve unlocked on PC once loaded up? Or will I need to use a save editor. Because it’s not my fault I had no PS4 during lockdown
Ok. Just fired up PS5. As expected, if you are in experimental in PC, you will need the game version to be in sync to use cross save. Thankfully there is a little bitty notice in the bottom left corner to tell you which version you are currently on.
PS5 is now on save version 4166 and my steam game is on version 4167. So…I will have to wait for the experimental patch from today, to go public.
